Andrew Tkaczyk is most known as the drummer for metalcore outfit The Ghost Inside, but also spent some time drumming for Michigan metalcore band For The Fallen Dreams as well. Andrew also has his instrumental side project, One Decade, that self released their EP Coma Visions in 2017. This would be the first batch of music to come from any of The Ghost Inside members and showcased a Tkacyk’s chops on guitar, an instrument most didn’t know he even played. Coma Visions is as crushing as it is hypnotic with its giant grooves and penchant for atmospherics. While Coma Visions and One Decade may have been overlooked, we think it’s worth checking out. Fire From The Gods formed in Austin, TX in 2010 and has really sprung onto the scene in the last year or so. Their album 2016’s ‘Narrative’ had bangers like “Excuse Me” and “End Transmission” with AJ Channer controlling the flow of the songs with his blend of rap, reggae, and rock vocals to keep you on your toes. They followed the album up first with an amped up re-release titled ‘Narrative Re-Told’ and this year saw the release of their new studio album ‘American Sun.’ The album boasts charting singles like “Truth to the Weak (Not Built to Collapse)” and “Right Now.” This isn’t just your typical, generic rap metal band. *This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state. This month’s state is South Dakota.*
This is why I absolutely adore writing SOTA articles for Metal Nexus. You look into what rock and metal is being produced by bands from different states and find artists who are phenomenal that you never knew existed. And then you share them with loads of music fans the world over! Work of Wolves are a band out of Sioux Falls, but that is pretty much all the bio I have on them, except who is in the group. Tyler Jung is on bass/vocals, Alex Foster plays drums/vocals, Paul Pinos is on guitar/vocals and Andrew Rogers handles keys/vocals.
The band are a brilliant blend of metalcore-like riffing and some growling vocals, but they also channel emo and even power metal genres. Their songs are melodic, memorable and very definitely metal! I have had their songs on re-play for most of the last few weeks. Their catalog covers one demo, two EPs and one album. The latest is the amazing ‘Purpose’ record.
‘Purpose’ was released this month and is seven tracks of heavenly metal. It has big time energy, verve and a restless sound that thrashes around your head. The vocals are superb, with understated harmonies and the musicianship hits highs that make you wonder why Work of Wolves aren’t huge. I have to say, this album will definitely make its way into any top ten records of 2020 for me, it is THAT good.
The songs on the latest E.P. have a groove that is infectious and an introspective attitude that is intelligent and moody. I love the vocal melody of “Pull Us Under” and its minor scale riffage. The song has some power.
Standout tracks are the hooky title track, with the bounce and evocative keys and the uptempo “Convictions”. Listening through the collection, I am also struck by the Nu-Metal influences and it does have that certain swirl of disconnected disillusionment that resonates today.

Comments Off on Lorna Shore Guitarist Comments On Band’s Career Being Threatened By Former Vocalist “Is This Going To Come Crashing Down?”
Lorna Shore have steadily made a name for themselves climbing the ranks as one of the premiere names in the death core genre. Formed in 2010 the band released a couple of EP’s and grew their fan base. Gaining popularity, the band would go on to sign to Outerloop Records and drop their sophomore album Flesh Coffin, which would be the last with their original lineup. Following the departure of their singer and bassist, Adam De Micco was the sole original member left in Lorna Shore, who would continue to lead the band forward. The bands latest album Immortal, their first since signing with Century Media Records, was lauded as one of the most anticipated of 202o, but wasn’t without it’s controversies as new vocalist Cj McCreery was caught up in a slew of sexual abuse scandals that marred the release of the bands album.
