State Of The Art: New Jersey’s MOM FIGHT! [EP Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state*

This month’s state is New Jersey!

2015 saw the formation of the band Mom Fight in Middleton, New Jersey. The band is currently a three piece, but started out as a 4 piece band. Former singer Joe left the band in May and cited his desire to focus on film making as his reason for leaving the band. It was at this time that guitarist Nick Timoniere stepped up and filled the role of vocalist as well as continuing as the bands guitarist. On Nick moving forward as the vocalist the band stated “After Joe left, we decided it would be best to record Vacant as a three piece, with Nick being the most natural of transitions for vocals. If you saw us back in August or looked at the photos, you knew Nick was putting the guitar down and fronting the band. Everyone knew, but we just never confirmed it. Nick put in a tremendous amount of work on this EP, as he did every guitar and all the lead vocals on it.” The band also picked up guitarist Shawn Riyann so Nick could focus on vocals and completing the band once again as a 4 piece. Some of the Mom Fight’s influences are Bottomfed, The Greatest Virtue, Deadbeat, Hounds, Queensway, and Gallery. The bands sound has a varying style. You can hear a wide variety of genres they sort of touch on but they certainly can’t be pigeon holed to one specific genre. At times you will hear a bit of metalcore and other times they seem more sludgy with a hint of thrash and hardcore. No matter what you call it, one word that can define their sound is HEAVY.

KINGS OF STRINGS: Michael Derks ‘Balsac The Jaws Of Death’ Of GWAR!

Michael has always remained one of my favorite guitarists. He has taken part of bands like X-COPS and Death Piggy but he is mostly known for being the rhythm guitarist for the notorious Gwar. But, without further ago, let’s get right into this weeks’ Strings Of Kings!

State Of The Art: REPLACIRE [Full Album Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state*

This month’s state is Massachusetts’!

It’s time once again to shake off those Monday blues with an absolute earth-shaker of a band that are completely redefining the new-wave of technical death metal. Hailing from MA’s capital Boston are technical death metallers Replacire. Already described as “a new breath of life for the death metal genre”, Replacire have been taking the aggressiveness and complexity of modern death metal and infusing it with beautifully intricate progressive elements and technical complexity. Think of a masterminded cosmic mutation that would ensue from the intense atmosphere and progressiveness of Mikael Åkerfeldts Opeth, mixed with Obscuras and Beyond Creations technical virtuosity and death growls, with Katatonias haunting cleans and dynamacism. Whilst this may sound in print like it has been done to death (pun-intended), Replacire stand out from the sea of other technical metal artists and are certainly at the head of the pack. Who ever said that metal was dead clearly has no idea what they’re talking about, with young blood like this keeping death fresh and feeding our bloodthirsty desires, Replacire are redefining an already extensively innovative genre and they are certainly the ones to be keeping an eye on!

Brilliant Rock & Soul Masters, Broken Stems, Reemerge With “Rest Assured”

When bands talk to us, we always listen. You never know when something spectacular quickly becomes your next favorite band. If you don’t dig it, pass it along to another staff member. We all have diverse tastes and open minds for just about every form of Rock, Hard Rock and Metal. It is what we do and why there are never hit pieces here. We love and respect all of the fine musicians that we cross paths with. Such is the case when I received an email asking about coverage for a new Rock and Blues outfit from San Diego, CA. One listen to their brand new single: “Rest Assured” (see below) was all it took. Man, oh man! No need to pass this along. It gladly stays firmly in my stable. Before checking out their hot new single below, please let me introduce you to Broken Stems.

State Of The Art : MALSUMIS

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state*

This month’s state is Alaska!

Hey metalheads of the pale blue dot! I am back with another State Of The Art write up this Monday to shoot some energy in you, so that you don’t have to whine about how this specific Monday is more boring than the previous one was. Anyways, let’s cut to the chase, and let me have the honor of presenting you one of the very promising bands from the extreme north of United States, battling the cold, dark and grim weather. Let’s give it up for MALSUMIS people! Hailing from the largest city in Alaska, Anchorage, MALSUMIS are a black metal band spawning from the misty, cold and bleak wintery landscapes of America’s Northern most state, just a year ago in 2016, and they successfully have garnered a lot of attention already, while still in its infancy. Mad props to them on that!

Kings Of Strings: Chris Wiseman From Shadow Of Intent!

Shadow Of Intent is a symphonic death core band you may have heard of before, after the release of their first full album ‘Primordial’ people went crazy. It is melodic, symphonic, brutal and it is filled with riffs that will melt your face off. It is all you ever wanted but more. Prior to this masterpiece Shadow Of Intent came together to create the 2014 EP ‘Inferi Sententia’ which touches more on the black and death metal side of things. If this wasn’t enough awesomeness already prepare yourself because on the 28th of April this year the album ‘Reclaimer’ landed on planet Earth and it is even better than you could ever imagine. I was sure that nothing could ever beat ‘Primordial’ but they proved me wrong. They are so ahead of the game it is unbelievable, it is inhuman how fast a band can grow and mature in such a small amount of time. They truly are all artists worth showcasing but since this segment is all about guitar players, let’s start off with back up vocalist and most importantly guitarist Chris Wiseman!

Louder Than Life Spotlight: EAGLES OF DEATH METAL

*Every Tuesday and Thursday from now until Louder Than Life gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*

Today’s Artist is Eagles of Death Metal

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, then you’ve definitely heard of the monstrous lineup at this year’s Louder Than Life.  It seems this year’s roster has just about everything you’d need to satisfy a hard rock/metal lover – the scary sounds of Rob Zombie to the more melodical likes of Incubus.  But there’s one band that brings a little something different to the table of which their drummer, Josh Homme describes as “bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals.”  Ladies and gentlemen, Eagles of Death Metal.
