KINGS OF STRINGS: Michael Derks ‘Balsac The Jaws Of Death’ Of GWAR!

Michael has always remained one of my favorite guitarists. He has taken part of bands like X-COPS and Death Piggy but he is mostly known for being the rhythm guitarist for the notorious Gwar. But, without further ago, let’s get right into this weeks’ Strings Of Kings!

Besides looking completely bad ass Michael has been in the band since 1988 and has developed a clear thrash sound with his magnificent playing. In a world this shitty Gwar and especially Michael always manages to make it beautiful for a second or so with their stupidity but most of all, awesome thrashy riffs. The song above, ”Madness At The Core Of Time”, perfectly displays his ability to execute (in my opinion) one of the greatest metal riffs of all time. It is meant to be there and that in combination with his play style convinces me that he is a true King behind the Strings!

Wonder what guitar the mighty Mike plays? You can read all about right here.

”My signature guitar, the Schecter JAW, was designed to do one thing and one thing only: to shred faces off with massive walls of tone, while fighting off blood soaked zombies, dinosaurs and religious zealots!”

If you haven’t heard of Gwar I demand you to check out their music here!

Recently, on the 20th of October Gwar released ‘The Blood Of Gods’ which is a tribute to the fallen hero Oderus Urungus. It is a piece that deserves to be part of your collection, add it here!
