The Bucketlist With THE DARK

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

It’s Friday and is the start of another weekend, and what better way to pump up the weekend jolly mood by knowing your favourite artist’s favourite live artists. Yeah, more like “art-ception”. Anyways, welcome back to our regular segment of The Bucketlist where we shoot the simple but yet so tough question of “five favourite bands yet to check mark off their bucketlist”. Now when you think of it, this rather sounds like another “tell me about yourself” kinda slam book segment. Today we throw this million dollar question to alternative rock band THE DARK who are based out of Berlin, but having been originated in Los Angeles, CA in 2015.

THE DARK‘s music will remind you of bands like ‘THE KILLERS’, ‘WHITE STRIPES’, ‘FOO FIGHTERS’, ‘SHE WANTS REVENGE’. Their rhythmic section it’s formed by a big, heavy drums sound coming from the stoner school with sensuous bass lines performed with a total unforgiving punk attitude. High gain guitar riffs will introduce you to a wall of fuzz creating a perfect pad for Brandon’s gritty, melodic vocals that will get immediately stuck in your head.

Here at Metal Nexus, we always welcome newcomers to the music scene and love to hear new music from bands all over the world.  When we first hear about a band, it’s pretty interesting to sort of follow the band’s career as they gain more and more success from playing local shows to playing some of the biggest music festivals.  With that, New Jersey natives Drifter have been showing up in several independent media outlets in the recent months and one listen will have you understanding why.  Continue reading

The Bucket List with MEKA NISM

* For the Metal Nexus’ Bucket List series, we pose the age-old question to some of your favorite artists: “Before you die, which band(s) would you want to see play live that you haven’t seen before, and why do they mean so much to you?” *

This week, we focus on Orlando, Florida’s art metal mavens, Meka Nism. The quintet consisting of Meka (vocals), Bobby Keller (lead guitar), Jarret Robinson (bass), Christopher Lane (drums), and Jay Adkisson (keys) have made quite a name for themselves in the metal world through their uniquely eclectic, genre-melding sound. Influences swirling throughout their music include everything from opera, to rock, to nu-metal, to black metal, and beyond. It’s no wonder that we see such a wide array of musical styles pop up on each band member’s bucket list. Continue reading

Rusty Shipp is one of the most unique bands that you will ever hear. The band is based in the land locked city of Nashville, but they are a nautical rock band. Formed in 2014 the band has released ‘Mortal Ghost’ which was seen by many to be one of the top albums of 2017 and the band has much more to offer. They plan on releasing a few more singles prior to putting out another record. Once you hear the groove and intelligent lyrics that put in their songs you will instantly become a fan.

An Interview with BALLPEIN

A scene that frequently gets shoved to the wayside by the heavy-metal community is the massively influential, thriving and certainly one-of-a-kind brand of underground music that was both a worldwide phenomenon commonly known as “Hardcore punk”, and more specifically in this context a significant subculture that had begun to emerge in the wake of Thatcher-era Britain, – indeed, “Hardcore punk” has now become a very generalised term yet it barely scratches the surface of what the community did for so many young people in an era of increasing economic crisis, political unrest and social inequality. This was a chance for young people’s voice to get heard amidst all of the unravelling chaos – yet it wasn’t always easy. Continue reading

An Interview With BLACK INCOME’s Henrik Thrane!

Denmark’s Black Income is not ordinary band. These rockers have a unique style that blends several different genres to create a sound and style that you have never came close to hearing before. Influenced heavily by the grunge era and stoner rock the band incorporates melodic thought provoking lyrics with a fuzzy guitar heavy sound. It’s what I like to call “heavy stoner grunge”. They use the best portions of both genres and their own unique creative input which brings a final product that is jaw dropping when you first hear it. You might even hear a little desert rock influence in there like Queens Of The Stone Age as well. The band formed in 2011 but didn’t really get things started until 2012. Black Income teamed up with producer Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Mike Tramp, D-A-D) and entered the legendary Medley Studio in Copenhagen, where bands like Radiohead, D-A-D and Kent has recorded some of their best albums. Their debut album would be released via Mighty Music titled ‘Noise Pollution’. The band has already began work on new material and has released the track “Drugs” which is available for stream on Spotify. Black Income plans to release one more single prior to their sophomore upcoming album release.

Talking Music Business With Harsha Vardhan From Proximity Productions [Interview]

Harsha Vardhan with Nergal from BEHEMOTH

While the priority of us metalheads is the music itself, and rightly should be, we often forget about the real heroes who sit behind the scenes, lending the necessary helping hand in building the band’s legacy. Be it organizing the to-be-most famous and successful tour, signing bands and promoting their all new album, which you’re all so pumped up about, they are the real back bone of the music industry. Promoting a new musical release could be successfully be pulled off by making use of the services of Northwest Signs who can produce custom signage and apparel for basically any business project you may have. So, whether it’s a new album, upcoming concert, or just merchandise, they’ll be able to help you with your promotional needs for it all.
