For today’s edition we have from Denver, CO, LOLA BLACK, who has been rising up the ranks of Denver metal scene real quick. With a mesmerizing live performance and a relentless work ethic she and her eponymous group have become the “it” band in Colorado taking in 3 Westword Music Awards putting them in alumni status, landing the title of 106.7 KBPI’s Best Band in Denver and becoming the go to act for national festivals and other numerous radio events.

Well here we are finally and I say this reluctantly, who would have thought we’d live to see this? Back in March, Frank Mullen the legendary original vocalist of NY death metal pioneers, SUFFOCATION announced that he would be hanging up his boots as their full time member. In a video posted on his Facebook page then, he alongside with Victoria formerly of WWE fame can be seen talking and that’s when Frank says he will be seeking for “new beginnings” and pursue full time acting and a few other projects in the future. And now the time has come for Frank Mullen to actually say goodbye to the legions of death metal and SUFFOCATION fans all over the globe. But.. but, before he calls it a day, he and his band will be trekking all across North America for a final farewell tour, aptly named “Death Chopping North America – Farewell Frank Tour 2018” with sick support coming in from misanthropic gore grinders  CATTLE DECAPITATION, Brazilian death metal legends KRISIUN, and Swedish tech-death sensations SOREPTION. All of this crazy stuff happening this upcoming October / November.

JOURNEY founder and only remaining original member Neal Schon, while on the current  JOURNEY & DEF LEPPARD 2018 Tour with wife Michaele Schon–who has been at the legendary guitarist’s side for his busy touring schedule for over 8 years and approximately 1000 shows–is paying tribute to former lead singer, Steve Perry, with a nightly dedication and moving performance of the band’s 1978 hit single, “Lights.” Co-written by Schon and Perry, “Lights” was featured on the band’s 4th full length album, ‘Infinity‘, and has become one of JOURNEY‘s most popular and easily recognizable songs.

After spending much of the time in controversy last year and first half of this year, Polish death metal giants  DECAPITATED are back on the driving wheel of what they do the best. With their latest album released just over a year back, the quartet are back with an all new crushing music video, “Kill The Cult“. The track comes from their latest album ‘Anticult‘, which was released July 7, 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records. The clip was directed by Lukasz Jaszak,who previously directed the music video for “Never” and created the cover art for DECAPITATED‘s three most recent albums.

Welcome back to another edition of State of the Art and today I go full tech death on you all. In a world where repetitive music is the orgasm for the masses, technical death metal turns that around viciously and sets an extreme example of high end, ground breaking musical dexterity. Taking on the same spirit and motive from Lafayette, Indiana, ruthless, brutal tech death group BREEDING FILTH, are our State Of The Art band this week. Formed in 2014, this ferocious quartet reek of intense and pretty technical riffs, pummeling drumming, low end thundering bass and nasty, dirty guttural vocals. All of these work in unison to produce the beast that BREEDING FILTH truly embodies, which has helped the band in reaching out to the masses and perform with big shots in a very short amount of time. Marching ahead with big strides this band is definitely the torch bearer of the Indiana underground death metal scene.

We got some new tour dates for y’all!

Alternative metal five-piece GEMINI SYNDROME is slated to headline the ‘Synner Conversion Tour‘ this summer, taking a break from writing their third studio album, expected to be released in late 2018 via Red Music.

“The Oracle has foreseen that Gemini Syndrome will be sharing the stage with fellow conspirators, Code Red Riot, occurring in alignment with the Estival Solstice. This Summer Conversion is a recess in writing and recording our next album, the third and final act of the trilogy. We look forward to sharing this sacred rite with you.” says Brian Steel Medina (drums) about the tour before the same ensues.
