Poltergeist was formed in 1988 and released three Thrash albums that remain cult classics to this day: Depression (1989), Behind My Mask (1989) and Nothing Lasts Forever (1993). After over 20 years, Poltergeist has returned and are set to unleash their much anticipated Back to Haunt due out October 21, 2016 on the Pure Steel Record label! We here at MN have the pre-release and it is a serious kick in the ass! While Dragon staked quick claim on the album review (soon to be published) I got the true honor of an interview with this legendary master of old school Thrash! Freakin’ stoked about this one!
Singer/Guitarist Eric Croft
Crimson Croft was formed in Glasgow, Kentucky in December of 2014. Founding member Eric Croft is no new comer to music. His various music projects makes him a veteran musician. Crimson Croft is comprised of vocalist Eric Croft & drummer Nick Gabow of Circled In Black. The band formed when Circled In Black went on a long & still lasting hiatus due to issues of extensive travel between band members. The band performs in a two piece & sometimes three piece set with bass player Ricky Hodge. They have released material on various online mediums such as Bandcamp, Reverbnation, YouTube, and Soundcloud. They have graced stages at various venues around Bowling Green, Ky, Louisville, Ky & Nashville, Tn. They often perform with various other acts such as Chest Rockwell, Heron & Crane, The Creatures and All Deeds Done. Eric is a master when it comes to lyrics and has played in bands since his teens, and his romance with words came long before that. His way with words allows his darkest revelations to escape his soul and into our ears. We were lucky enough to speak with Eric about his music, influence and some other tid bits of information. Angels on the Battlefield is:
JD McGibney – guitar, composer
Angels on the Battlefield has been on my band list for a while now. I have listened to their EP countless times (you can download it FREE on Angels on the Battlefield); always finding some nuance that I had missed before or changing color based on my mood and/or situation. Three songs that I just cannot seem to wear out or get out of my head. This is definitely my kind of music! Intelligent, melodic and unique. Once I started work on the article and doing research, I was offered an interview with one of the best instrumental bands out there by their manager Alex Rodrigues and jumped at the chance. Hell yeah! Who wouldn’t like to interview someone you have so much respect for, right? I absolutely love the music, and after working with them, I am an even bigger fan than before. As a special treat, we have also been honored with the exclusive introduction of their new single “Leap of Faith” which continues their streak of fierce virtuosity. So, sit back and read what the brainchild of Angels on the Battlefield, JD McGibney has to say about his bad-ass music and listen to the new single below. Rock the f*ck out! Cheers!
The Ohio based band Woe Of Tyrants have been on an extended hiatus. Their last album was released over 6 years ago, but what they done in the past has left a lasting impression on anyone who has heard their music. The band released their first album ‘Behold The Lion’ in 2007 and quickly garnered the attention of Metal Blade Records. Their next release ‘Kingdom of Might’ would be their Metal Blade debut in 2009. That album has long been a prime example of what most bands set forth to do and fail. The album is one of the best metal album put out in the last decade. The song “Break the Fangs of the Wicked” is the definitive metal song that jams everything your ears crave in less than 5 minutes. If you are unfamiliar with the band please use that song as your welcome package, because once you hear it you’ll be a fan. Once that album released it was getting worldwide attention and the band was hand selected to join Overkill’s 25th Anniversary Tour along side Vader, God Dethroned, Warbringer, Evile and of course the might Overkill. The band has found a way to meld thrash, and death metal in flawless fashion. Their 3rd release ‘Threnody’ (2010) is their last release as of now. The band however isn’t finished. The band has recently started up the engine of Woe and is in the process of creating new music. The creatively talented group couldn’t keep their hands idle any longer. They recently announced they are back together, practicing and plan to release new music in the not so far away future. We got the opportunity to speak with vocalist Chris Catanzaro and find out what’s going on with the untamed beast that is WOE OF TYRANTS! Continue reading
Love N War is a killer, Hard Rock/Heavy Metal outfit based out of Houston, TX that has been packing venues for years. Very popular, with a very cool, vintage Metal vibe, they are poised to explode onto the world stage. I recently was able to catch up with these vintage Metal monsters to get their perspective on the band, their music and where they are going. Enjoy what they had to say in our interview with this up and coming band.
Recently I was given the opportunity to interview San Jose, California’s own Angerhead. Beginning their quest in February of 2011, they have developed a very cool mix of Thrash Metal and Punk that harkens back to days of real music played by real musicians. Keeping up the tradition for over five years now, they have played with Exodus, Testament, Kittie, Loudness, Quiet Riot and a host of other national touring acts. Check out what they had to say and put them on your list of “must listen to bands” list. Turn it up and hang on for the ride!

We were lucky enough to catch up with Periphery guitarist Misha Manoor prior to their set at Chicago Open Air this past weekend. Rain started to fall as the band took the stage, but that wouldn’t keep their dedicated fans away. Swarms of fans stood in the pouring rain as Periphery brought their personal brand of metal to the first annual Chicago Open Air. Their set was unfortunately cut short due to weather, but fans at Chicago Open Air did get a special treat that the rest of the world had to wait on. Misha talks about the festival, their new album ‘Select Difficulty due out 07/22, an upcoming tour, and their new video. Continue reading
After covering Conquest in a recent article, I had the unique opportunity to talk with Derrick Brumley, lead singer and guitarist for this killer band. I found him very friendly, intelligent, open and extremely conversant about his band and how it fits into the music business. If you have not heard of Conquest, you have now. What are you waiting for? Go check them out! But first, a conversation with the man himself…
Lo-Pan has been one of the driving forces in the Columbus music scene for some time now. That band has a unique sound that draws any and all ears toward the music they create. Each member of the band is a master at their instrument. The band welcomed guitarist Adrian Zambrano a little over a year and a half ago to the band. Today it was announce that Adrian had left the band and Lo-Pan is again looking for someone to fill the role of guitarist. Lo-Pan announced his departure via Facebook making this statement:
“Our guitarist Adrian Zambrano has decided he needs to walk away from Lo-Pan at this time to focus on some other important parts of life. We would like to emphasize that this is an amicable split and we wish him all the best. We are currently on the hunt for a new guitarist and we hope to see you all again as soon as possible. Stay tuned for announcements and new music.”
Under Pike Skies is a band based in the Appalachian region of Kentucky. The band is comprised of 5 talented young men that are destined to have their music heard around the world. Not only are they musically amazing but their lyrics really hit home and are emotionally driven. The band is preparing to head into the studio to record their debut album with an amazing team at Crisis Lab Studios (Flaw, Saturate) in Mississippi. The group has quickly drawn the attention of fans all over the region and was even showcased on Eastern Kentucky Broadcasting’s Mountain Music segment. The band is from a poverty stricken section of Kentucky and isn’t financially stable to pay for the entire recording process themselves. They have created a GoFund Me campaign for fans that would be interested in helping them make history by recording their debut. Under Pike Skies is offering some rewards for people that make a donation toward their dreams coming true. For instance certain donations could garner you a live Skype performance by the band, your name in the “thank you” section of the album once released, a shout out on their social media pages and a few other things. They are really special and can’t really be compared to anything else in modern music right now. Continue reading
