Welcome back to our ongoing series of LOUDER THAN LIFE 2019 artist profiles, our weekly guide through the lineup of acts who’ll take the stage at Louisville, Kentucky’s Highland Festival Grounds at Kentucky Expo Center September 27-29 in what’s sure to be one of the biggest concert events of the year. This week, we’re taking a closer look at the Austin, Texas based melodic nu metal rockers Fire From The Gods.

Fire From The Gods formed in Austin, TX in 2010 and has really sprung onto the scene in the last year or so. Their album ‘Narrative’ had bangers like “Excuse Me” and “End Transmission” with AJ Channer controlling the flow of the songs with his blend of rap, reggae, and rock vocals to keep you on your toes. Fire From The Gods is likely one of the most energetic and complex bands slated to perform at this years Louder Than Life festival. AJ Channer is actually the band’s second vocalist after he replaced Eric July who is now doing a project called Backwordz. Fire From The Gods has already played several major festivals like Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion, Welcome to Rockville and they blessed the stage at the 2017 Louder Than Life as well. They only continue grew in popularity by playing on the Vans Warped Tour a few summers ago. This isn’t just your typical, generic rap or nu metal band. *This is part of our “Aftershock Festival 2019 Spotlight” where we branch out and focus on some of the up-and-coming bands that fans can see at this year’s Aftershock Festival on October 11th – 13th.  This week, we’re checking out SPIRIT ADRIFT*

Phoenix, Arizona’s Spirit Adrift will be offering a taste of darkness and doom under the hot Northern California sun this October. Originally formed in 2016, the quartet consists of Nate Garrett (vocals/guitar), Marcus Bryant (drums), Chase Morgan (bass), and Eric Wagner (guitar). Spirit Adrift’s late 70s/early 80s, retro metal vibe is a sharp contrast to the more extreme death metal project, Gatecreeper, of which Garrett, Mason, and Wagner are also members. Impressively, both bands are devastating in their own right; but where Gatecreeper takes its influences more in the form of bands like Entombed and Bolt Thrower, Spirit Adrift’s inspiration seems to lie somewhere within the stoney realms of Black Sabbath and Candlemass. Exit 111 has been one of the most anticipated festivals of the summer and fall in its inaugural year. Taking place on the farm that Bonnaroo has made iconic right outside of Nashville, Tennessee. The lineup is diverse but appeals to more of a rock and metal crowd than Bonnaroo. You have legendary bands with decades of experience like Guns N’ Roses, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Cheap Trick and Def Leppard. Then you also have bands that have made a name for themselves and would be a headliner on most any tour lineup like Coheed and Cambria, Mastodon, Ghost, and Deftones. Then you have my favorite bands to see; the up and coming bands that I personally think you shouldn’t miss. These bands have something to prove and they will go all out to impress the massive crowds at festivals. Those bands include Tetrarch, Dirty Honey, Alien Weaponry, Them Evils, Power Trip and Kyle Shutt (of The Sword) showcasing his solo act. I don’t think I need to explain how important it is that you also get a chance to see Slayer one last time, and this will be their final performance in the Volunteer State, so don’t miss them. PALLBEARER Announce September Tour Dates

Progressive doom metallers Pallbearer has announced a string off show dates that will occur in late September. This “mini-tour” will include performances at Heavy Mountain II Fest in Asheville, NC with Corrosion of Conformity, Torche, and Windhand, a show with Kayo Dot in Lexington, KY, and additional dates with Destroyer of Light. Recently, Pallbearer has partnered with Nuclear Blast to bring their upcoming record to a larger worldwide audience. The band has also released the single, “Atlantis” as part of Sub Pop Records’ “Sub Pop Singles Club”. Listen here. 

This four-piece Arkansas band first came onto the doom metal scene with their debut Sorrow and Extinction. Originally formed in Watertown, New York, The NorthmeN have a sound that is equal parts epic, grandiose heavy metal and catchy, hard rock groove. For my ears, The NorthmeN are kind of what you might get if you threw Iron Maiden and Load-era Metallica into a blender with a dash of Scorpions guitar harmonies – a refreshing treat indeed. Swedish progressive metal legends, Opeth, have just released the new single “Svekets Prins” off of their highly anticipated 13th album ‘In Cauda Venenum,’ which is set to drop September 27th via Moderbolaget/Nuclear Blast Records. Recorded in 2018 at Stockholm’s Park Studios, the upcoming full-length release will be offered in both Swedish and English language versions. “Svekets Prins,” the track’s Swedish version, will be followed up next week by the release of the English version, “Dignity.” Continue reading →
