Interview: Noor of NORTHWIND WOLVES “I See Some Of The Darkest Aspects Of Human Life On A Daily Basis Here In Los Angeles”

Recently, I had the great opportunity to interview Noor, the lead vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, and co-founding member of LA-based, black metal band, NorthWind Wolves. After reviewing NWW’s latest album, ‘Dark… Cold… Grim…‘ and being impressed by their music, I was honored to be able to speak directly to the man himself. He graciously opened up about everything including his own personal musical journey and influences, the origins of the band, and even helped clear up some misconceptions and rumors floating around the internet.
Noor’s story is definitely an enthralling one, and one that really speaks to the drive of a musician’s passion to pursue his art. With a deep look into the mind of a true black metaller, and without any further hesitation, please enjoy this riveting interview with Noor of NorthWind Wolves: Continue reading

THROUGH FIRE’S Grant Kendrick On Fans At EdgeFest “They Couldn’t Wait To Sing It And Catch Eyes With Me”

2017 was a big year for Through Fire. The band released their deluxe edition of ‘Breathe’ which included some new acoustic tracks and an amazing cover of “Jar Of Hearts” by Christina Perri. Their original song “Where You Lie” really hit home with fans both musically and emotionally. ‘Breathe’ dropped last year and charted very well in the US for a debut rock artist’s release. Their song “Stronger” played a large part in this. It stayed atop Sirius XM Octane’s “Big Uns” list for many weeks. 2017’s Louder Than Life was the band’s second Danny Wimmer Presents festival. They opened up the inaugural Chicago Open Air festival last year right as their record was released in 2016.  Continue reading

The Bucketlist with TEN TWO

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

Former Still The Sky’s Limit frontman John Barthelmass, better known as ‘JB’ or Johnny B, has been quickly making waves in the music community with his solo career under the name Ten Two.  The singer/songwriter uprooted himself from his home in Orange County, California and relocated 3,000 miles away to Orlando, FL to further pursue his music career and his upcoming solo debut release ‘Forth’ is slated for release January 5, 2018.  According to the Ten Two Facebook page, “JB focuses not on what could have been but instead choosing to focus on the future—all that is and can be. It’s this mantra that he channels into his upcoming solo debut release Forth. Encompassing the loud, the calm, and everything in between, it is a two-sided album through which he explores a unique musical and emotional duality by juxtaposing his alt-rock past with his present as a budding acoustic singer/songwriter.”   Sounds to me like the makings of some good quality songs, as I’m not too keen on focusing on the past myself – look to the future and make your own reality. The Bucketlist with SHADOW OF WHALES

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

Here at Metal Nexus, our goal is to bring the best in news, updates, and the goings-on with your favorite rock and metal groups.  As well as this, we also strive to bring attention to lesser-known bands that are just as talented.  As many of you know, our Bucketlist segment has shone light on many bands – from main acts on a festival lineup to festival openers and everyone in between.  Recently, Metal Nexus established contact with a great up and coming band that some may know, Shadow of Whales.  Admittedly, I had never heard the band, but after hearing a few songs, I was hooked immediately. Today we here at Metal Nexus were given the wonderful opportunity to chat with Woodroe ”Woody” Weatherman, co-founder and lead guitarist of the highly revered act Corrosion of Conformity, a name that has been a pivotal figurehead in the realms of heavy-metal since their origins in 1982. An Interview With Indian Brutal Death Metallers GUTSLIT [Video]

What do you expect from a band who’s got an atrocious name like that of GUTSLIT ? Well, nothing apart from brutal, grinding and heavy death metal. So heavy it could give Thor’s hammer a run for his money! So GUTSLIT are Asia’s one of the most crushing bands, coming out from Mumbai in India. They play a genre of metal where there is no respite from murder, torture and all kinds of vile imagery, the band is literally the sadistic embodiment of all things gore and nasty. Having formed way back in 2007, exactly a decade ago the band has been “pulverizing the masses”, as they like to state it out on their Facebook page. GUTSLIT play a blend of heavy, crushing and brutal version of death metal with surplus grind elements, they are merciless and ruthless in their live performances. While other pansy little bands boast and opines “there will be blood”, GUTSLIT is the band that will really make sure you return home with a chopped off leg and a botched body. Their sonic atrocity is unmatched and is arguably the best brutal death metal to have come out from this part of the world. The quartet has three records under their belt since the formation, a debut EP, first full length album, ‘Skewered In The Sewer‘ and their all new latest album which was released just two months back, ‘Amputheatre‘.

INTERVIEW: GOROD On Promoters, “We Learned New Ways How Shady Promoters Or Agents Act”

How about some technical death metal with a tinge of jazzy and funk influence? If this doesn’t entice your pleasures then I don’t know what will. GOROD is a tech death band hailing from Bordeaux, France formed back in 1997, but with a different name. The initial name with which the band started out was Gorgasm, and that soon changed to GOROD when they re-released their debut record ‘Neurotripsicks‘ under Willowtip Records(US) in 2005 with two new bonus tracks in it. The name change was primarily due to avoid confusion with another band of the same name back in Chicago, USA.

GOROD are one of the most technically proficient death metal bands out there and are the flag bearers of the extreme metal scene in France. The band’s music works on many levels and it truly showcases the incredible talent each member in the band possess. Their version of jazz oriented, progressive tech death has shot them to worldwide attention in the death metal community.Having played the Maryland Deathfest in the U.S., a couple of European runs over the years and six full lengths under their belt, GOROD isn’t shying away to make their filthy and heavy sound heard all across the globe.

INTERVIEW: Julien Truchan Of BENIGHTED [Video]

BENIGHTED is what you’d need if you’re looking for total carnage and ear splitting sonic atrocity. The French deathgrind band was formed back in 1998 in Saint-Étienne, and since then the band hasn’t looked back. With over eight heavy, grinding albums under their belt BENIGHTED keeps getting more dark, more terrifying and a chaotic frenzy of meticulously carved riffs that shatters anything hindering their way. The band was formed by the vocalist and front man Julien Truchan along with ex-guitarist Oliver Gabriel, who unfortunately quit the band due to hectic touring schedule and other personal reasons this year after 19 years in the band. Despite Julien being the sole original soldier in this battle tank, it definitely doesn’t seem like the tank is running out of gas.

Their most recent release, ‘Necrobreed‘ early this year has received widespread appreciation from fans of death metal and metal in general alike. Released under French label Season Of Mist, this is their eighth studio effort, and if you ask me, it is the most strongest record in their entire two decade long catalogue. With insane explosive drumming by none other than the drum god, Romain Goulon(ex-NECROPHAGIST), frenetic and brutal riffs by axe men Fabien Desgardiens, Emmanuel Dalle and Pierre Arnoux, and Julien’s terrifying vocals, ‘Necrobreed‘ surely stands a chance in your year end album list. Don’t forget to get the album and their merch HERE!

JOYOUS WOLF’S Greg Braccio “I Don’t Think There Should Be Perfection In Rock, It’s Suppose To Be Flawed” [Video]

A gritty howl opens Joyous Wolf’s upcoming debut LP, ‘Enigma’, and it’s the perfect introduction since the band plays rock & roll at its most primal and passionate. Formed in 2014 guitarist Blake Allard’s bluesy riffs harken back to the classic hard rock of AC/DC, Cream and Deep Purple while still packing a thoroughly modern wallop, while front man Nick Reese’s voice seems to come from deep in his gut as he sings about everything from warring kingdoms to a tribute to a fallen friend. Together, with bassist Greg Braccio and drummer Robert Sodaro, Joyous Wolf’s members work together to create some of the most exciting, promising and unwieldy back-to-basics rock to come out of Southern California in recent years. If you have been searching furiously for a band that has a throwback sound that truly shows old school influence while also adding modern elements to their sound to remain fresh, vibrant and unique then look no further. Joyous Wolf played a major role on several fall rock festivals this year, being one of the only unsigned bands to grace the stages from Kentucky to California. I have no worries that this band will soon find a label with their huge booming sound, it’s impossible to hear their music and not fall in love.  Continue reading

An Interview With Indian Old School Death Metallers KILLCHAIN

When a band cites legends like BOLT THROWER, OBITUARY & DEATH as inspiration, you know you’re in for an old school death metal ear splitting shred fest. Hailing from Mumbai, KILLCHAIN are slowly creating major ripples across the country’s domestic scene. They have also performed for reputed fests in and around Mumbai, such as, ‘Domination: The Deathfest’, ‘Thunderstorm’ etc.

Their music reeks straight up, pure, unabashed, old school death metal. With the groove of BOLT THROWER, the heaviness and vocal prowess of OBITUARYKILLCHAIN are proving yet again that old school death metal has not died and will never ever perish.
