Review: COSMIC WOOL – S/T [Official Videos]

Cosmic Wool is straight from the Heartland Of America, Oklahoma City to be exact. The band formed in 2013 by brothers Nevada (Guitars/Backing Vocals) and Rado Romo (Lead Vocals/Bass) who both are formerly of the band Anti Mortem and Nevada is currently the guitarist for Texas Hippie Coalition as well. The remaining members of the band are John “Drew” Williams (Guitar/Keyboards) who met the brothers through a mutual friend, and Tom Frizzell (Drums) who responded to an ad by the band seeking a drummer. The band initially like most bands do started out as a jam band. Cosmic Wool was something for the Romo brothers to do with their breaks between tours. With the dissipation of Anti Mortem in 2014 it freed up more time and Cosmic Wool was moved up as a priority. The band first released a 3 track EP ‘Over Your Eyes’. The band tested their sound with local Okalahoma crowds and they seemed to love the direction the band was going in. The next step was to step further out of their region and see if the country was ready for the comforting sounds of Cosmic Wool. In 2016 the band released another EP titled ‘White’. The band further developed their “cosmic” psychedelic sounds and intertwined amazing melodic choruses within their newer songs creating the sound they have today. Cosmic Wool spent the spring of 2015 to the summer of 2017 writing and reworking the songs that would make up their debut full length, working with Chainsaw Kittens guitarist Trent Bell perfecting the sound they were looking for. The band has stated “We met Trent through another producer we’re friends with named Dustin “Provo” Provenzano who did the first Cosmic Wool demos as well as the Anti Mortem demos. Bell Sound is a huge facility,” points out Rado Romo, “so we took full advantage of that and recorded most of the guitar, bass and drum tracks together in the same room. We also experimented with state of the art synths and keyboards to round things out.” The bands sound has been described as various things, space rock, desert rock, psychedelic rock, groove metal, but one thing is for certain; the band has moved out of the hard rock genre and created a sound that is uniquely theirs. The bands debut self titled full length was released on December 19, 2017 and is available at most online music merchandisers. Pick up a copy on Amazon here, or check it out on spotify.

Review: DANGEROUS CURVES – S/T [Live Performance Video]

Dangerous Curves is an 80’s and 90’s hard rock/classic metal band from the Maryland or D.C. area that creates their own original songs inspired by that decade of great bands. The band has a passion for hard hitting, high energy music that they grew up with. They name drop songs like AC/DC’s “Dirty Deeds” and Ratt’s “Round And Round” as some of the specific tracks that inspired them to form the band and also their unique sound. They remember the days of singing along in your car to the hot new cassette you just bought. They are inspired to re-create songs that you went to sing along to. John Jamison, Chris Gamble, Linwood Turner and Randy Snowman love that distinct hard-to-play sound that came out of that 80’s/90’s era. The band says “Let’s be unique and do the HARD stuff!” Like Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Megadeth, Metallica, Triumph, Van Halen? The band knows that not everyone is in love with the harder side of the genre like they are, but they try to add elements that will satisfy every band. Coincidentally Dangerous Curves is also the name of Lita Ford’s fifth studio album released in 1991, so the bands name could be a nod in respect to her since the bands unique style and sound comes from that very era of music. Strap in, put your helmet on, and hang on to something, this is going to be one hell of a ride! If you are a fan of Kreator, you are definitely in for a treat, especially if you managed to get your hands on a copy of their album back in the 90s. Having an album for that length of time probably brings back a lot of memories for the collector. Hopefully it is still in the same condition if was when you first brought it. You might even consider having it duplicated by the VDC group to preserve it. But if not, you shouldn’t worry. There are online businesses that supply equipment such as Phono Preamps that you can purchase to help restore the sound of your old Kreator albums. If this is something you are considering, go to the store and find the solution. Or you could just wait until the band release the reissued versions.

Dave Navarro’s Contributions To Show Business!

When you think about the great guitarist Dave Navarro, the first and utmost thing that comes to mind is Jane’s Addiction. For less informed fans it could even be the only thing associated with him. While Navarro has surely much more to offer, both in terms of contribution to music, as well as in other areas, today’s audience might have a little distorted image of his true talent and musical potential. John Boecklin (BAD WOLVES) “There Is Some Controversial Stuff On The Record”!

You could say that Bad Wolves is a new band, the name is new but the musicians that make up the band are industry veterans that have been around the block and have been an integral part of successful bands. Bad Wolves includes Tommy Vext on vocals who is no stranger to the spotlight. The singer recently filled in for Ivan Moody on one of Five Finger Death Punch’s recent tours and was also a member of Divine Heresy with Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, the reunion of Snot reunion, Westfield Massacre, and even formed his namesake group Vext. The remaining members of the band are just as iconic including drummer John Boecklin formerly of Devildriver and I Of Tongues which essentially has become Bad Wolves, guitarist Doc Coyle of ex-God Forbid and Vagus Nerve which he started in 2015. Doc Coyle has also been a hired gun and filled in for various bands like Lamb Of God, Trivium, Darkest Hour, Unearth and also Westfield Massacre. In addition to adding his skills on stringed instruments Doc has also aided bands like Hatebreed and Body Count with songwriting. Chris Cain also on guitar who is from Bury Your Dead. Rounding out the band is ex-In This Moment, Vimic bassist Kyle Konkiel. In all likelihood you have probably seen some of these tenured rockers perform in the past. Now they are all entangled together creating this beast of a group named Bad Wolves. The band recently took the top spot for the #1 rock song on Apple Music and topped the Billboard charts with their cover of The Cranberries “Zombie”. The song was released just days after The Cranberries vocalist Dolores O’Riordan passed away. Initially Dolores was supposed to be featured on the track as well, but her life ended tragically before that could happen. The band is also donating all proceeds of the songs profits to O’Riordan’s children in her honor. In addition to that cover the band has also released the single “Toast to the Ghost” which will be on the bands debut album which is set to release in the summer of this year. Continue reading

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Release New Single “Roll Me Under” [Stream]

In November Stone Temple Pilots announced their new singer Jeff Gutt with a performance at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Founding Stone Temple Pilots members brothers Dean DeLeo (guitar),  Robert DeLeo (bass), drummer Eric Kretz and late frontman Scott Weiland found worldwide fame following the 1992 release of their debut album ‘Core’. After their subsequent 2002 breakup, several reunions with Scott Weiland took place up until his ultimate firing from the group in 2013. Linkin Park frontman, the late Chester Bennington, was a member of STP from 2013 to 2015. The band took their time finding a new front man taking tens of thousands of audition from singers around the world. It turns out none of those auditions made the cut as they selected Gutt who was a contestant on the tv show The X Factor and he didn’t actually audition until the band reached out to him. The band has numerous festival appearances lined up this summer including Welcome To Rockville, Rock On The Range, Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion as well as a full U.S. Tour.  Continue reading

The Bucketlist With Gino Colucci of DOMESTIC GODZILLA!

Chicago based groove rockers Domestic Godzilla formed in 2001. The band has a style and sound that really melds various genres together creating this beast of a band that has gained attention all across the Windy City of Chicago and afar. One of the most recognizable elements of the band is the vocal style of singer Scott Coca. Moments pass and you have these beautifully sang melodies, by the time you blink it slams into these break neck screams that haunt your ear drums. Chicago was usually always a tour stop for national acts and Domestic Godzilla often opened for some of those headlining acts. If you had to make comparisons the band sounds like a mixture of a much more brutal Incubus with elements similar to the band Flaw, and a dash of Nothingface. Chicago natives loved the band and showed up in hoards to see them live. Unfortunately the band ended up going into a hiatus. Fast forward to 2008 and Domestic Godzilla drummer Gino Colucci is now the founder of an independent record label called Converse Records. In 2013 he was able to release a Domestic Godzilla album of previous material that includes several live tracks. The album is entitled ‘Language Barrier’. It had been almost a decade when the two founding members (Gino Colucci & Scott Coca) were drawn together yet again to bring the beast back to life. The chemistry they built together writing songs all the way back in high school helped them reform and got the ball rolling again. They started to work on new material in the studio at Converse Records in 2015. Gino has now moved across the country to Arizona and Scott is still residing in the Chicagoland area. Thankfully the technology advantages the two are still able to keep Domestic Godzilla alive, and their new material shows that no distance can dull the chemistry these two have together. The band recently released their newest single in the form of a lyric video for “O.C.D.” and are also working on another track that should be released sometime soon as well.  Continue reading
