Comments Off on Review: Flaw Lands In Jacksonville, FL and Tears Up 1904 Music Hall
This was one of those shows that I could not wait to get to; kind of like Christmas a few weeks late. Not only was I waiting to see a now legendary band, but also to see some friends I have not seen in quite a while, see a couple of bands I have not seen before and able to see a couple of favorite local bands that I have become friends with over time. Great being part of the local Metal scene here in Jacksonville! Some of the best people playing some of the best music available anywhere! Gotta love it! Thanks to GoBig Entertainment for making this show happen!

It’s an incredibly hard task to narrow down all the amazing albums that released in 2016 to a short list of 25. This year seen the reunion of some amazing acts and we lost several iconic musicians. My personal top 25 albums of the year not only includes veteran acts that you are probably familiar with, but also brand new bands or lesser known bands that blew me away with their sound. There are just some bands that have a way of capturing you moments into the first track. There are several other albums I wish I could have included in this list, but without further ado here is my top 25 albums of 2016: Continue reading →
Comments Off on FLAW Drummer Corey Sturgill Leaves Band…
Corey Sturgill played his first show with Flaw almost 2 years ago on Jan. 9th, 2015. Corey was brought on board with the band at a time they were beginning their stride to put out an amazing new album after a long hiatus. Corey was a part of the band’s latest release which captured fans both old and new. The band released ‘Divided We Fall’ on August 19th, 2016, their first major release since 2004’s ‘Endangered Species’. Corey stepped up to the drum kit and immediately fit in and became a part of the Flaw Family. The band has recently been touring heavily. They had a headlining tour and also toured alongside Dope. The drummer recently showed his thanks and appreciation for the time he spent in the band but announced he was leaving to pursue other options and spend more time with family. While we are sad to see Corey go we certainly appreciate the music he helped create and also enjoyed the times we were able to see him perform live. There has been no official statement from the band, but Corey announced his departure via Facebook on Friday which you can see below. The band has some scheduled shows throughout December, the first of which is December 14th at Ground Zero in Spartanburg, South Carolina. So, Flaw will be on the hunt for a new drummer in the very near future or at least someone to fill the vacancy during those dates through to their New Years Eve show at Trixie’s Entertainment Complex in Louisville, KY.
Flaw is one of the legends as far as Kentucky metal bands go. They put the Bluegrass State on the map for something other than country when they hit the airwaves in the late 90’s thru early 2000’s. Their last major release was 2004’s ‘Endangered Species’. The band has been back together and playing some live shows over the past couple years and we even got a taste of the new album pretty early with “Bleed Red”. At the Louder Than Life festival in 2015 we had a chance to speak with the band about the upcoming album and music in the current era. Singer Chris Volz and guitarist Jay Daunt both stated that rock and metal was on a 10 year cycle and that it was time for popularity to sway back towards rock rather than pop. After hearing the latest record by the band ‘Divided We Fall’ not only do I agree that rock is making its way back but I believe Flaw is leading the way. The new album will be released via Pavement Music. The album was recorded with Rick Lander (Dead Horse Trauma, Under Pike Skies) at Crisis Lab Studios. The album is the monumental comeback record we have all hoped for. It was always FLAW fans’ connection to their songs that carried the band on. “We would not be where we are today without our hardcore fans,” says Volz. The Flaw Family is the motor that drives the band and this album will just double the size of that family once it’s released. ‘Divided We Fall’ is scheduled to hot stores August 19th. Make sure to pick the album up directly from the band on their upcoming tour with Dope and Motograter, or pre-order here. Continue reading →
Comments Off on Flaw Announce Release Date of New Album ‘Divided We Fall’
Flaw has been back together for a few years now and touring all over the country. Three of the bands core member remain in the band. Vocalist Chris Volz, Guitarist Jay Daunt, and Ryan Jurhs have an amazing chemistry together that is seen and heard in their music. Drummer Corey Sturgill was a great addition to the band and he has helped add another dimension to the band, and he is an entertaining drummer to watch. The band has released one new single in the past year titled “Bleed Red” which dominated air play on Sirius XM Octane when it was released to them exclusively. This song shows the band can still put out emotionally driven heavy music that touches a nerve with any listener. The band last release major release was “Endangered Species” back in 2006. Flaw has a loyal fan base that has been craving new music for quite sometime and they just got the news they have been waiting for. We spoke to the band back in October at the Louder Than Life festival about the new album and their timeline to release it. The band signed a deal with Pavement Entertainment and have no announced a date for the release of their new album Divided We Fall. Continue reading →
Flaw is just a few days away from kicking off their latest tour. The B.O.L.O. 2016 Tour will begin on January 14th in Sanford, Florida and end on February 1st in Springfield, Missouri. The band will be dominating venues all over the South. The band has been in the studio putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated upcoming album due out in March. The band also recently signed to Pavement Entertainment. The band has been back at it and active for the past couple years but the album will be the first album released from the band since 2004’s ‘Endangered Species’. The band has unveiled one new song which made it’s rounds in Sirius satellite radio. The song “Bleed Red” shows the band has only got better with age. Fans went crazy for the new track requesting it consistently. If this song is any indication to what to expect from the upcoming album it is going to kick major ass. The band has had several lineup changes in the past but the core of the band has always been Chris Volz, Ryan Jurhs, and Jay Daunt. These 3 musicians are the blood that pumps through the veins of Flaw. Along with them is newly added drummer Corey Sturgill who is a great addition to the band. I also have to add that he was deathly sick at this past years Louder Than Life festival and he still took the stage and played a flawless set.
The band has added label mates Freaks Like Me as direct support on the tour. The group has a great throwback rock sound that will just add to this already amazing tour. They are just the right amount of heavy and melodic to fit in perfectly with Flaw. Of course Flaw is known for their emotional lyrics that reach out and mend your soul. If you are within driving range of one of these dates get out there and support these bands. We will be reviewing the Jacksonville stop on this tour at Jack Rabbits which includes the killer hometown band Immune. Also on the bill that night is The Knowing Within and The Things They Carried. It’s just another addition to an already killer show. So stay tuned as we will have a review for this show and some killer pictures.
Follow the bands below to keep up with everything through the tour, and make sure to pick up Flaw’s upcoming release.
