GRETA VAN FLEET Release New Single “When The Curtain Falls” [Audio Stream]

By now Greta Van Fleet should be a household name to anyone that even remotely listens to rock and metal. If the band has somehow not made it on your radar let us catch you up. Greta Van Fleet– which took its name from one of the close-knit community’s town elders – is a hard rocking quartet whose creative ambitions and achievements reach far beyond the ages of the four band members, not all of them old enough to have voted in last November’s election. The band includes brothers Josh (vocals), Jake (guitar) and Sam Kiszka (bass, keyboards) and best friend drummer Danny Wagner (Who I also must add is an accomplished golfer) – are dedicated to bringing real rock’n’roll back to the mainstream. The band delivers high-energy, sweaty, rock’n’roll loaded with attitude and bravado that exemplifies each band member’s killer musical chops and Josh’s simply jaw-dropping voice. Greta Van Fleet bring back a throwback kind of sound that most old school metal heads thought was gone forever. The band has been kicking down doors of venues all over the country and gracing stages at dives and renowned venues. Their four-song debut EP ‘Black Smoke Rising’ was released on April 21,  2017 then followed by another EP ‘From The Fires’ on November, 17th 2017. The group deftly straddles the line between timeless and future, sounding at once like many things you’ve heard before and also something you’ve never heard before. Some have even referred to the band as America’s next greatest rock band. The band doesn’t have an intense history or discography to tell you about as of right now. Greta Van Fleet is currently making their own history and you can be a part of the crowd when they take the stage in your area. Pick up their record because it’s an instant classic…mark my words.  Continue reading

State Of The Art: BREEDING FILTH [Album Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state.*

This month’s state is Indiana!

Welcome back to another edition of State of the Art and today I go full tech death on you all. In a world where repetitive music is the orgasm for the masses, technical death metal turns that around viciously and sets an extreme example of high end, ground breaking musical dexterity. Taking on the same spirit and motive from Lafayette, Indiana, ruthless, brutal tech death group BREEDING FILTH, are our State Of The Art band this week. Formed in 2014, this ferocious quartet reek of intense and pretty technical riffs, pummeling drumming, low end thundering bass and nasty, dirty guttural vocals. All of these work in unison to produce the beast that BREEDING FILTH truly embodies, which has helped the band in reaching out to the masses and perform with big shots in a very short amount of time. Marching ahead with big strides this band is definitely the torch bearer of the Indiana underground death metal scene.

State Of The Art: Indiana’s THE IRON GATES [EP Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state.*

This month’s state is Indiana!

It’s 2018 and yes, metalcore is still strong. The Iron Gates from Indianapolis, Indiana dropped their debut EP this past February and celebrated by playing with Darkest Hour. “The Story Thus Far” is a four song powerhouse that is reminiscent of the wonderful mid-2000’s east coast metal and hardcore crossover.

The Iron Gates formed in 2009, and their sound strongly reflects that; a statement given with respect, as the pinnacle of modern metalcore was among those surrounding years. Nailed by blast beats from drummer, Erik Flaskerud, and a taste of melodic European death metal and power metal riffs, the listener is quickly flooded with memories of perfected Shadows Fall licks and God Forbid-style uninhibited vocals by Dustin Savage. Early As I Lay Dying is channeled in track three, “The Huntress,” with a riff that drives the entirety of the song and a chorus doesn’t need clean vocals to be catchy. Guitar duo, Matt Strakis and Brian Nichols sound like they should be on the cover of Guitar World… tomorrow! The low end is incredibly tight and clean, courtesy of bassist, Brandon Lytle. Review: EPICA – ‘Epica vs Attack on Titan’ [Track Stream]

Folks, we have something from the world of symphonic metal. The Dutch symphonic metal juggernauts Epica recently announced a worldwide release of their second EP titled ‘Epica vs Attack on Titan‘, which is a based off covers of the anime Attack on Titan. The EP was released in Japan on Dec 20 last year. And on July 20th this year it is going to see a worldwide release. This EP features heavy metal versions of the theme songs from the highly successful manga (Japanese comics) series Attack on Titan. Personally, I prefer the anime of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and have collected quite a few figures from Solaris Japan but I do understand the popularity of Attack on Titan. While it’s not my cup of tea, this doesn’t stop bands like Epica from loving it! The manga series Attack on Titan has been extremely successful since its first release in 2009, with three live action films, three anime films, close to a dozen video games and 70 million copies in print and counting.
