TGR_LOGO_GOLD

I have been a huge supporter of local and emerging bands for years and have met and am fortunate to call many of them friends.  Since joining the Metal Nexus staff, I have had a desire to cover this local music I love in and around Florida and carve out a small space for some of my personal interests.  Well, last week we were able to partner with host Chris Marsh to cover Mayfest on May 21, 2016 with many great bands that I know and been introduced to a couple that never hit my radar.  For the dual purpose of introducing “Odyssey’s Scene” and ramp up to Mayfest, I am very pleased to introduce you to: The Glorious Rebellion.

“And now for something completely different…”

Monty Python’s Flying Circus

Sorizon is a very rare and unique band based out of Orange County, CA. Playing throughout Southern and Central California, Arizona and Nevada; this sextet of wickedly talented musicians have thrown caution to the wind and decided to create whatever strikes their collective, creative fancy instead of targeting one group of listeners or chaining themselves to any certain genre. When asked “what is your target audience”, song-writer, studio guitarist, and manager Dr. Danny Mann enthusiastically states “Everyone! We’ve heard many times after our shows from people who don’t really like metal that they really dug our set. I’m proud of that!” That said, Sorizon has much to be proud of because after just one listen to their music, one understands why this is true! Continue reading

This month’s State is California!

Hailing from Los Angeles, Once Human is a brutal force in Metal to be reckoned with and not for the faint of heart. Formed in 2014 by music producer and guitarist extraordinaire Logan Mader (of Soulfly and Machine Head fame) after joining forces with Australian guitarist-turned-singer Lauren Hart, bassist Damian Rainauld and drummer Ralph Alexander. Shortly after the release of their debut album, The Life I Remember in August of 2015, Alexander was replaced on drums by Dillion Trollope. With the addition of Skyler Howren on guitars, the current line up was complete. Already touring with Fear Factory and soon with Death Angel, Once Human is proving that they have what it takes to propagate their very dark brand of music in the Metal world.

This month’s State is Texas!

Texas has always had a great music scene. It’s not surprising considering it’s size and the large number of huge cities within the states borders. Everyone has a favorite Texas band, so I figure it’s time to let you in on mine. I know what you are thinking and no it’s not Pantera, D.R.I., The Sword, or ZZ Top. My favorite Texans is none other than Pissing Razors. The El Paso band has always been heavy as hell and has been a mainstay in my listening rotation for years. Continue reading

This month’s State is Texas!

The Dallas based band Onward We March has been using a do it yourself approach since their formation back in 2008. The five member group of Texans have a heavy progressive sound that originally started as a simply jam session in a living room that morphed into something so much more. The band released their debut album “The Golden Vine” in January of 2011 and that was just the beginning. Continue reading

This month’s State is Connecticut!

Connecticut is home to more than a handful of great bands. Dead By Wednesday is yet another great band that calls the state home. They formed back in 2005 and have 4 releases under their belt. The bands sound is a mixture of various elements and influences that really give their music that little something extra that pushes them over the edge and makes them great. Being from the state of Connecticut it’s not surprising they have bumped elbows with legends like Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow, Jasta). The bands initial debut album ‘Democracy is Dead’ was released on Jasta’s label Stillborn Records in 2005. The album was successful right out of the gate by selling more than 3,000 copies. Reproacher [Multi-Album Stream]

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the State of the month.”

This month’s State is Wyoming!

Reproacher is a Wyoming based band that formed in 2010. They have been a hard working band and have amassed several releases in their youthful existence. In 5 years they have developed their signature sound and released material that is pure unfiltered and an undefinable style of music. In 2011 they released their debut self-titled album. That album was produced by Andy Patterson who also recorded another favorite band of mine, Gaza. Since releasing the debut they have also had 3 additional releases. Next chronologically was 2012’s ‘Tour Demo MMXII’ EP. The 6 track EP has this raw and rough sound to it. Sometimes these high quality pristine recordings take away the soul and energy of a band. This EP really captures the organic composition of the band. Pin pointing the exact genre the band fits into is rather difficult. A dash of this and a pinch of that from various styles of metal seems to sum up the accomplished sound of the band. Their two most recent releases are ‘Nothing To Save’ which came out in 2013 and a 7″ split with Of Feather and Bone that came out in 2014. The split is the first release from the band that wasn’t recorded by Andy Patterson. Continue reading
