Jeff Kunze Top 10 Albums Of 2018

I thought 2018 was impressive year for releases in metal music. I didn’t matter what genre of metal was your particular taste, there was something for everybody. Every year shows us some promising young talent, bands continuing to climb the ladder, and musical veterans still proving their value in metal hierarchy. This list was extremely difficult as I left out some great stuff by bands like Avatar, Underoath, and Parkway Drive. They say there is Black Sheep in every family, and my list just might be that lost black sheep of the Metal Nexus family. However, I live in Minnesota and wool is a fiber of warmth, and its cold outside, so I’ll deal with it. Continue reading

OF MICE & MEN’S Aaron Pauley “We Knowingly Do Some Stuff Thats Gonna Get The Haters Talking”

Since their genesis in 2009, Of Mice & Men have become one of the biggest names in the music industry fusing sugary-sweet melodies, captivating hooks, and aggressive, in-your-face energy.  The band released their self-titled debut album in 2010, gaining notoriety with hits like “Second & Sebring” and “Those In Glass Houses”.  Of Mice & Men gained momentum with the success of their sophomore album ‘The Flood’, and used that momentum to cement the Of Mice & Men name into history with the release of 2014’s ‘Restoring Force’ which has come to be known by fans as arguably the band’s “best” album.  With over 100 million cumulative streams, ‘Restoring Force’ packed a heavy arsenal with numbers like “Feels Like Forever”, “Would You Still Be There”, and “Bones Exposed” and made its way all the way to #4 on the Billboard Top 200.  The guys followed up the successful album with another success, 2016’s ‘Cold World’ which sold 19,000 copies in its first week and appeared at #20 on the Billboard Top 200 in the U.S.  ‘Cold World’ would become the last album to feature long-time frontman, Austin Carlile. 2018 has already been a great year for music for the most part as far as new releases, new tour announcements, and new band updates go.  So far this year, we’ve been graced with several brand new kick-ass albums and several more on the way with one of those being the new release from metalcore giants Of Mice & Men, ‘Defy’.  The brand new album, set for release this Friday, January 19, is the band’s first album since the recent departure of former frontman, Austin Carlile, who left the band in late 2016 to focus on recovery from a long-term illness.  Stepping up to take over vocals, bassist Aaron Pauley utilizes ‘Defy’ to showcase just how qualified he is for his new position in the band. Zippo Sessions: OF MICE & MEN Acoustic Set @ Carolina Rebellion [Photos]

Concert attendees are known for holding a lighter up in the air and raising the flame in honor of the bands on stage. Don’t let your fire be extinguished and use a Zippo and it may just get you backstage for more great music…It’s always great when your favorite band has an encore right? Well imagine they had an acoustic encore set and you were one of only a couple dozen people allowed to attend. It doesn’t get any better than that. Zippo Sessions has been providing just that experience to concert goers for the last few years at some of the nation’s largest music festivals. The best thing about it also is you have no idea who exactly you will be seeing until they walk onto the stage. For the price of a Zippo, which is already great enough on its own, you get a special pass to see a performance.  Continue reading
