Colucci Releases Lyric Video for “Pushing”

colucci

The one man project Colucci has released a new lyric video for the song “Pushing”. Colucci is the solo project of the man it is named after, Gino Colucci, founder of Converse Records and also a member of the killer Chicago band Domestic Godzilla. The new song is a lyrically driven hard rock song with some nu-metal elements. Gino mentioned this when releasing the video “I recently finished this song. It’s about dealing with issues related to anxiety, depression and PTSD. Being a paramedic for over 15 years and firefighter for 8, that shit takes it’s toll mentally. It’s time for change and to get control of my health.

Many more guys and gals in emergency services have the same problem too. We’re seen as heroes so it can be hard to reach out and say “we’re not strong enough to deal with all this”. Some have tried CBD from places like Pure Hemp Farms to manage their stress and that’s a step in the right direction. Others have been dealing with it by bottling it up, which is not good at all. Its time for us to be more open with our struggles and try to find help.

This project has been very personal and therapeutic for me. You can download it free. Looking forward to better days! I wrote, performed, recorded, mixed all instruments vocals etc., the first of many to come.” The lyrics are heartfelt and touching. Gino has risked his life and saved many throughout his career as a fire fighter and paramedic in the Chicago, Illinois area. Check out the song, download it, share it, and follow Converse Records here on Facebook for more to come.

*This is part of our State Of The Art  series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*

This month’s State is Texas!

Texas has always had a great music scene. It’s not surprising considering it’s size and the large number of huge cities within the states borders. Everyone has a favorite Texas band, so I figure it’s time to let you in on mine. I know what you are thinking and no it’s not Pantera, D.R.I., The Sword, or ZZ Top. My favorite Texans is none other than Pissing Razors. The El Paso band has always been heavy as hell and has been a mainstay in my listening rotation for years. Continue reading

Flaw on Tour w/ Freaks Like Me!

12308286_1044639222247113_3926061914103383185_n

Flaw is just a few days away from kicking off their latest tour. The B.O.L.O. 2016 Tour will begin on January 14th in Sanford, Florida and end on February 1st in Springfield, Missouri. The band will be dominating venues all over the South. The band has been in the studio putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated upcoming album due out in March. The band also recently signed to Pavement Entertainment. The band has been back at it and active for the past couple years but the album will be the first album released from the band since 2004’s ‘Endangered Species’. The band has unveiled one new song which made it’s rounds in Sirius satellite radio. The song “Bleed Red” shows the band has only got better with age. Fans went crazy for the new track requesting it consistently. If this song is any indication to what to expect from the upcoming album it is going to kick major ass. The band has had several lineup changes in the past but the core of the band has always been Chris Volz, Ryan Jurhs, and Jay Daunt. These 3 musicians are the blood that pumps through the veins of Flaw. Along with them is newly added drummer Corey Sturgill who is a great addition to the band. I also have to add that he was deathly sick at this past years Louder Than Life festival and he still took the stage and played a flawless set.

The band has added label mates Freaks Like Me as direct support on the tour. The group has a great throwback rock sound that will just add to this already amazing tour. They are just the right amount of heavy and melodic to fit in perfectly with Flaw. Of course Flaw is known for their emotional lyrics that reach out and mend your soul. If you are within driving range of one of these dates get out there and support these bands. We will be reviewing the Jacksonville stop on this tour at Jack Rabbits which includes the killer hometown band Immune. Also on the bill that night is The Knowing Within and The Things They Carried. It’s just another addition to an already killer show. So stay tuned as we will have a review for this show and some killer pictures.

Review: Drowning Pool “Hellelujah” (2 Tracks Streaming)

936614_10153859864578615_4001607461221212333_n

Almost 3 years after the release of “Resilience” DROWNING POOL is set to unleash their latest batch of fist pumping, high energy, Texas Metal. Set for release February 5th “Hellelujah” promises to carry on the momentum garnered by the recent 13th anniversary of the band’s debut Smash “Sinner” . Produced by Jason Suceof, “Hellelujah” marks the second release fronted by vocalist Jasen Moreno. “Hellelujah” doesn’t waste any time getting going with “Push” delivering everything we expect from DROWNING POOL in 2016. It’s heavy, melodic, up-tempo and catchy. Nothing really new here for DROWNING POOL. But certainly more of what fans that have followed them since 2001 will appreciate. “Push” is followed up by the album’s first single “By The Blood”. “By The Blood” seems to channel the “Sinner” album a bit. All the elements from the guitar tone of guitarist C.J. Pierce to The vocal styling’s laid down from singer Jasen Moreno seem to take you back to the bands Platinum debut. I know that is something we can all live with. Continue reading

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*

This month’s State is Texas!

The Dallas based band Onward We March has been using a do it yourself approach since their formation back in 2008. The five member group of Texans have a heavy progressive sound that originally started as a simply jam session in a living room that morphed into something so much more. The band released their debut album “The Golden Vine” in January of 2011 and that was just the beginning. Continue reading

Review: Ape Cave “Pillars of Evolution” [Album Stream]

Artwork: Jason Raines

Ape Cave are a talented band from the musically rich city of Portland, Oregon. This month makes a year the band has been together and unlike other bands who take their sweet ass time releasing material Ape Cave doesn’t waste any time. Back in May the band released their debut which was a 3 song EP entitled ‘Primordium’. The moment I heard the EP I became obsessed with their sound. Just a little over 6 months the band is now releasing their full length album ‘Pillars of Evolution’.

This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*

This month’s State is Connecticut!

Connecticut is home to more than a handful of great bands. Dead By Wednesday is yet another great band that calls the state home. They formed back in 2005 and have 4 releases under their belt. The bands sound is a mixture of various elements and influences that really give their music that little something extra that pushes them over the edge and makes them great. Being from the state of Connecticut it’s not surprising they have bumped elbows with legends like Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow, Jasta). The bands initial debut album ‘Democracy is Dead’ was released on Jasta’s label Stillborn Records in 2005. The album was successful right out of the gate by selling more than 3,000 copies. We were recently lucky enough to sit down with 3/4 of the Pikeville, Kentucky based hard rock band Downtrend. Earlier this month we reviewed the bands newest release; the live album “Southern Fried Hell Ride: Live”. We took it a step further and decided to speak to the band about everything that has been going on with them since their formation over 10 years ago. The band has overcome more challenges than most bands will ever face in their existence. In the bands 10+ years their sound has changed and progressed but the biggest thing about the band is the heart and passion they have for music. Check out the interview below and be sure to pick up a copy of the bands newest album here.

Review: God Am – S/T EP

godam

On the outskirts of Indianapolis, Indiana you will find one of the most appealing bands I have heard in some time. The band God Am formed in 2012 and have been putting in some major hours to hone their sound and get exactly where they want to be. The band released their debut EP on May 16th. The group have made waves throughout the region in Indiana and this EP is sure to turn those small waves into more of a tidal wave. After just finishing this EP the band is already hard at work a follow up to this debut and have 3 songs in the books written already. They will soon begin touring Indiana and surrounding areas and we can only hope a venue in our area will be lucky enough to book them. We had the honor of checking out the debut and are sure you will be just as impressed as we were. Continue reading
