Review: SIR COLLAPSE – ‘Walk To The Moon’ [Album Stream]

Sir Collapse formed in 2013 in Neuss, Germany. Sir Collapse combines elements of alternative, grunge and prog into their music to make a special blend of music that is unique to them. The members that make up the band are Lukas Kuppers on vocals, Philipp Krach providing the riffs, Dennis Ozmen on bass and Martin Herrmann behind the drum kit. The band recorded and released their first demo of 5 tracks in March of 2015. The band followed that up with the release of their debut EP ‘Audiofil Citrate’ in January 2016. The band has recently recorded and released their first full length album titled ‘Walk To The Moon’. Sir Collapse recorded the record at Gottesweg Studio A in Cologne, Germany. In an effort to recreate a live feeling within their music the band didn’t track each instrument and instead decided to record everything in one room together. The band also left any small mistakes in the final recorded and didn’t edit them out so the album would be even more true to their live shows or a rehearsal session. The stunning artwork for the album and also in the inner sleeve/booklet was created by Justin at Nepomuk – Illistration. ‘Walk To The Moon’ was released on October 19th, 2018.  Continue reading

Review: SODOM – ‘Partisan (EP)’ [Official Video]

Attention all Sodom-Fans, there’s a number of exciting news from Tom Angelripper & Co! On the one hand, the band are currently at the studio to record new material, on the other their next shows are scheduled for early September, and the end of November will see the start of their extensive “MTV Headbangers Ball Tour 2018” alongside Exodus, Death Angel and Suicidal Angels. And as if that wasn’t enough great news, the best bit of intelligence comes directly from the thrash metal act’s inner circle: “We’re a real family again,” enthuses frontman Angelripper following the band’s line-up change in spring 2018. “We all really enjoy the new line-up consisting of Frank Blackfire (guitar, ex-Sodom, ex-Kreator, Assassin), Yorck Segatz (guitar, Beyondition), Husky (drums, AsphyxDesaster) and myself. There’s a real team spirit again, we’re having a great time together, every one of us is interested in everything and – really important! – everybody is there for everybody else. Obviously that kind of atmosphere is bound to have a positive effect on the songwriting.” Sodom have been thrashing since their formation in 1981 and has 15 studio albums under their belt. Sodom’s current lineup could be the best and heaviest lineup the band has ever had. How will Sodom sound with the new lineup? They are ready to give you a teaser with their new EP ‘Partisan’ which will be out on 23 November 2018, featuring three tracks including a live recording from this year’s Rock Hard Festival. The digital version of the album also includes the bonus track “One Step Over The Line” which the band has released an official video for as well. The new line-up could hardly present itself in a more impressive manner! This EP should hold fans over until they complete the new full length they are currently working on.

Review: UNHOLD – ‘Here Is The Blood’ [Album Stream]

Unhold has been an active band for over 25 years beginning in 1992, fusing together a unique mix of sludge, doom, and post metal and in the process cementing themselves as a staple in the scene. Unhold is like a heavy metal experimental astronaut constantly in search of things out of this world and blazing new paths. After many years as a quartet, in 2012 Unhold united three rough edged and enticing voices, guitars, keys / synth, bass and drums following their mission to merge beauty and beast into one hybrid creature – fierce, intimidating, beautiful and compelling. The band is comprised of Reto Wittwer on bass, Miriam Wolf adding piano as well as vocals, Philipp Thöni shredding on guitar and providing clean vocals, Daniel Fischer behind the drums and Thomas Tschuor on guitar and belts out the harsh vocals. Unhold are routinely playing stages all over the world and have played alongside bands such as Shrinebuilder, A Storm of Light, Zeal & Ardor, Zatokrev, Minsk, Crowbar, and Torche. As you can see those bands they have played alongside vary by genre drastically. Unhold has a unique enough sound that they can almost fit any bill alongside any band regardless of their genre or sub-genre in the rock or metal world. The bands latest release is ‘Here Is The Blood’ which released November 9, 2018 via Czar Of Bullets. The album was mixed and mastered by Andrew Schneider in New York whilst in daily contact with the band. It was recorded by Christoph Noth at Studio La Fonderie in  Fribourg, Switzerland. The results are for all to hear. Andrew Schneider and his experience and sonic mastery shines throughout their songs, as it has with other bands he has mixed such as Unsane, Cave InKen ModeBig Business, and Shrinebuilder. ‘Here Is The Blood’ is the follow up to 2015’s ‘Towering’ and the band yet again expands on their journey in exploration of sound.

Review: STEW – ‘Hot’ EP [Album Stream]

Like dusting off an old vinyl from years past, Stew is influenced by 60’s and 70’s rock n roll. The band formed in early 2017 and has been cranking out great classic rock and blues for us all to enjoy. From some crossroad in Sweden, Stew is a power-trio of Markus Asland plucking the bass and handling  the vocal duties, Nicklas Jansson shredding the guitar, and Nicklas Dahlgren pounding the drums. Their new EP, ‘Hot’ just released on June 1, 2018. It’s a hard and heavy, balls to the wall rock EP. The band isn’t wasting any time as they have already began work on a full length record and plan to enter the studio sometime in beginning of 2019 to start recording.  Continue reading

Review: EVOKEN – ‘Hypnagogia’ [Album Stream]

The New Jersey funeral doom masters, Evoken return with their long-awaited, sixth full-length album, ‘Hypnagogia.’ It’s the quintet’s first LP in six years since 2012’s ‘Atra Mors.’ Over the course of an hour across the eight tracks on ‘Hypnagogia,’ John Paradiso (guitar/vocals), Chris Molinari (guitar), Dave Wagner (bass), Don Zaros (keyboards), and Vince Verkay (drums) take the listener on an atmospheric, psychological mindfuck of a journey from dark to even darker. The low, sludgy riffs crush with the weight of massive concrete slabs under the sorrowful weeping of crisp, lead guitar melodies. Drums and bass are deliberate and punishing, while keys provide an ominously haunting complexity. Vocally, Paradiso’s deep, guttural growl resounds like an otherworldly being beckoning through the endless void. For those who care to indulge in such morose pleasures, ‘Hypnagogia’ is a beautifully depressive, brutal, and immersive rite of passage into the darkest abyss. Continue reading
