Review: SHIT THE COW – ‘When in Caracas’ [EP Stream]

Shit The Cow is a band of Swedish rockers set out to explore the limitations of their own universe, and from what I’ve heard there are no limits on what this band can do. The bands risk taking when it comes to sound has really developed their music into something new. They are conquering uncharted territory and inventing sound as they go. They’ve done what is classified as “rock disco” on their 2012 release ‘Volume/Cow’ before moving on to a more garage rock sound on 2013’s ‘Salt Of The Earth’. Then they evolved into a more punk feel with 2014’s ‘Rissna’ before moving to more darker elements on “67p” in 2015. ‘One With The Devil’ released in 2016 was one of my top 10 favorite releases. The band has defined their sound as “Scrapyard Rock” and it’s very fitting. The band simply takes inspiration from all over and juxtaposes their sound. The band had released 5 EP’s and then 2017 saw the release of their first full length ‘Cavelord’. Shit The Cow wastes no time writing and recording and the band is releasing yet another EP on December 14th, 2018 titled ‘When in Caracas’.

WHITECHAPEL Release “Black Bear” From Upcoming Album ‘The Valley’ [Song Stream]

On March 29th, Whitechapel will release their 7th full-length, ‘The Valley’, via Metal Blade Records. Mixed by David Castillo, mastered by Ted Jensen, and produced once again by Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder), ‘The Valley’ is a reference to the part of Hardin Valley (west of Knoxville, Tennessee) where vocalist Phil Bozeman grew up. Set against this backdrop, he approaches his subject matter unflinchingly, building upon everything that came before, making it clear that he has survived that which he was forced to endure and is not afraid to confront it. “Phil has been upfront in his lyrics in the past about hardships he endured in his life as a child, and I believe with this record we tried to paint a better picture of that,” says guitarist Alex Wade, who alongside his bandmates, stands 100% behind everything their vocalist has to say. “I feel our music is Phil’s release from his past, being able to get it out and speak about it, and hopefully anyone who hears it that may have gone through similar experiences can find some release in it as well.” This is the second track released from the upcoming album, the first of which was “Brimstone” which can be streamed here. Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton has always been known for his ability to produce some of the most outstanding riffs and contribute to some of Metal’s most iconic albums. He was one of the few guitarists of our generation that seemingly makes it effortless to write bone crunching riffs for every single Lamb of God album that releases, and we will all now have the chance to hear his musicianship at an even further level in his upcoming solo album, “Anesthetic.” The Lamb of God shredder has announced that the release of his first solo piece will be unveiled to the world in 2019, featuring collaborations with a lot of his old and new friends in the music industry. CHICAGO OPEN AIR 2019 Lineup Announcement!

After the cancellation of Chicago Open Air in 2018 many of the festival veterans were heartbroken that our annual get together wasn’t happening this year. The reason behind the cancellation was that the producers didn’t feel they had a lineup that was worthy of the Chicago Open Air name. We certainly appreciate that they want to impress us and have standards for the lineup that they deliver. This year the festival is making it’s return although cut down to a 2-day festival rather than the 3 days it was in 2016 and 2017. The festival will again be held in Bridgeview, Illinois just right outside the Windy City of Chicago at Seat Geek Stadium (formerly Toyota Park) on May 18th and 19th. The festival always carries the heaviest lineup of bands in regards to all the other Danny Wimmer Presents festivals of past and present (Rock On The Range, Louder Than Life, Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville etc). While most other festivals are declared as hard rock festivals Chicago Open Air has been labeled a “metal festival”. We also last year had a brief chat with Senior Vice President of Festival Talent at Danny Wimmer Presents Gary Spivack and he spoke briefly about Chicago Open Air and the other festivals which you can listen to here Continue reading
