Review: EARTH ROT – ‘Renascentia’

Formed in only 2014, Earth Rot has really made their mark in the underground scene. The Australian death metal band has released an EP titled ‘Dirt’ in the same year of their formation. A short 6 months later they blew up the underground scene with their first full length LP titled ‘The Black Smoke’. This band offers a black and death metal mix not many bands can pull off with such seamless transition from one to the other. Now the band is back with their new album ‘Renascentia’ just one year after they released their debut album. Earth Rot has evolved and sharpened the craft of blackened death metal and this album shows that. Continue reading

Review: IBYSS – ‘Hate Speech’ (Album Stream)

IBYSS is two guys. Two guitars, riffs for days, melodic and harsh vocal tones, programmed drums that are on point, and distorted bass. The band was founded at the beginning of 2012 by guitarist Jens (Chord Of Souls) and guitarist Nihil (PaPerCuts). This duo is taking Industrial-Metal back to its underground roots, the German duo celebrates an assault on the progressive-sound-complex of today´s metal world. Rudimental and raw. The band includes echoes and reverb in their sound to make the listener feel as if they were stuck in a cold dark cave, instead of listening to the usual music in the cozy surroundings. IBYSS wants you to feel uncomfortable, they want their music to move you and it’s something that few bands put effort into. The bands first release ‘Obsidian’ was self produced and released in 2014. Since that album the band has released 2 remixed tracks and the single “Monolith” that included the original track and 2 remixed versions in 2015. IBYSS has now released their latest work of art on January 31, 2017. The release was again self recorded and produced by the band and mixed and mastered by Ben Blutzukker. The album’s title has caused sort of an uproar in the bands home country of Germany. The EP titled ‘Hate Speech’ has been refused coverage from most German webzines and even leading print magazines. Refusing to publish any news about the release or even review it because they think our title is too “problematic” or “provocative”. I can easily go back into the metal vaults and find 1000’s of iconic albums that have far more offensive titles. Honestly, the fact that these outlets aren’t covering this album gives it that taboo effect and makes fans want to check it out even more. The title of this EP isn’t the main point here, this band absolutely dominates in their own style, bare witness to all that is IBYSS Continue reading

THE FUROR Unveil “Rampage Upon the Rational” From The Album ‘Cavalries of the Occult’ (3 Tracks Streaming)

Australian natives THE FUROR prepare an explosive concoction of death, black and thrash metal and the result is scathing to say the least. The bands not so secret weapon, drumming phenomenon Dizazter is part of Singaporean legends IMPIETY, but with THE FUROR he’s taking it to a different extreme. Mind-boggling drumming aside, his skills with guitars too are no less impressive and he has laid down all the songs for this album. Aided by guitarist Hellhound and The Grand Impaler on bass, THE FUROR whip up a storm of biblical proportions. From start to finish, the album is absolutely unforgiving but it has its share of clever variations and deft tempo changes without derailing the entire momentum. ‘Cavalries of the Occult’ will go down as one of the most venomous albums of its time. THE FUROR’S explosive ‘Cavalries of the Occult’ release, due out March 5th on Transcending Obscurity Records. The album was produced by Nizam Aziz of IMPIETY at Studio 47, in Singapore. The band just released the stream for  ‘Rampage Upon the Rational’, and were already streaming 2 other tracks from the album which are ‘Death Manifest’, and ‘The Flames of Fate’. These 3 tracks will give you a head start on the album before it releases tomorrow. This is an album you will not want to miss. ‘Cavalries of the Occult’ has instant appeal and will surely be a cult classic for years to come. Continue reading

REMARK Release Video For “Falling” From Self-Titled Album!

Let’s talk about Russia! And let’s leave the politics out of it. Moscow’s REMARK has garnered a tremendous amount of attention with their video for the track “Falling” from their recent self titled album. The video has been out for a period of time but is still circulating heavily. The band released their debut ‘REMARK‘ in January 2016, it was produced by Andrew Konoplev. The band has stated that “Our first album was about finding our sound, style, manner of execution, and ultimately how REMARK should sound and look on stage”. I’m not sure what sound they were striving for but they hit a home run with the outcome. A true rock n roll record with a gritty edge. The 5 piece band is able to add melodic and aggressive notes within their style along with a rhythm that has that instant classic appeal. REMARK with Kuper Kukunchikov (METAMORPHOSIS Production) released two new music videos; the first one, “Falling,” brought REMARK to national attention and pushed them to the next level, winning the “Ultra Music” radio contest and a performance on Russian TV. In 2016 they appeared in rotation on many internet radio stations, and performed on many major Russian radio stations such as the RSN, L!FE, MAXIMUM live. The band raised the standards for rock n roll.  Check out the video for “Falling” below.  Continue reading

The Seven Kingdoms Interview

Seven Kingdoms is:

Sabrina Valentine – Vocals

Camden Cruz – Guitar

Kevin Byrd – Guitar

Keith Byrd – Drums

Aaron Sluss – Bass

It is no secret that I am a HUGE fan of Seven Kingdoms!  Their brand of Power Metal is among the most polished and technically stunning from anywhere in the world, bar none!  The icing on the cake for me is that they call my state of Florida home.  After listening to them for years, seeing and reviewing their show in Orlando a couple months ago and reviewing “Decennium” that was released just over a month ago, I jumped at the opportunity to interview them when offered.  Big thanks to Jon Freeman for this one!

Nova Collective Stun With Their Debut, “The Further Side”

Nova Collective is:

Richard Henshall – Guitar
Dan Briggs – Bass
Pete Jones – Keyboards
Matt Lynch – Drums

So. What happens when you take the talents of ranking members of three, very heavy hitting Progressive Metal bands, like say, Between the Buried and Me, Haken and Cynic and throw them in the blender with the Modern Jazz sounds of a band like, oh I don’t know, Trioscapes? To sweeten the deal even more, add the engineering wizardry of Jamie King (for readers that follow my musings, I seem to end up covering just about everything this man produces and needs no introduction from me) and have everything mixed by Rich Mouser (Neal Morse, Transatlantic). Guesses? Honestly, I would have guessed something very technical and heavy in a minor key that drive on 7ths instead of strictly 5ths, done on extended range guitars and maybe a fretless bass. Nope. Not even close! What you get is a supergroup that call themselves Nova Collective and they are about to release their debut album entitled The Further Side on the Metal Blade record label March 10th, 2017. Upon receiving this pre-release, I was on this thing like white on rice! Oh man, what an absolute treat these guys have for everyone!

DREAMCAR (A.F.I.’s Davey Havok + Members Of No Doubt) Release Single “Kill For Candy”

DREAMCAR was a really surprising super group that was formed almost 2 years ago, but only became public knowledge over the past 6-7 months. The band features No Doubt’s Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young along with the vocal domination of A.F.I.’s Davey Havok. The band hasn’t really said much about what type of music they set out to make. Davey recently spoke about the bands first meeting together saying “just sitting at the table with them and hearing their thoughts on what they wanted to do which was essentially just have fun and create music in a very free open environment so I told them I’m in.” The word experiment has been thrown around in regards to the bands sound. I like most people assumed their sound would be a mix of rock, ska and punk influence. Tony Kanal stated “we had no idea where this was gonna go, this was just about getting in a room and making music together, and just having fun, and the beautiful thing is it’s been that ever since, for the last 2 and a half years. Like I don’t feel like that feeling ever changed.” The band had already accumulated thousands of fans before even releasing any music. Today the band launched their first single “Kill For Candy” from their upcoming yet to be titled album. “I can’t stop listening to it, so that’s always a good sign for me,” Kanal says, while noting the band is in the “final stages” of wrapping up the album. The song boasts a heavy 80’s pop rock influence, that could be reminiscent of Depeche Mode and maybe even Duran Duran. At this point I think DREAMCAR have a lot more up their sleeve than they are willing to show, I would be willing to make a large wager that the album as a whole will have an incredibly broad style. The band has also booked some tour dates on the West Coast. Until we are able to hear more enjoy the first single now streaming below.  Continue reading
