State Of The Art: KUR

This month in State Of The Art we are going to Kentucky, and first up we have a heavy hitting Death Metal trio named KUR who make their lair in Lexington.  KUR is the depraved union of Apollyon – Drums, Mortimus Bile – Bass/Vocals, and Aciel – Guitar/Vocals.  I’m inclined to think this band is an extremely fresh face on the scene from what little information ive been able to gather on this brutal trinity of unholy monstrosities, which gives them all the more appealing. I happened to stumble upon them in a stroke of random chance just earlier today after I heard the track “Drowning The Kings Heir” which was released in anticipation of their upcoming EP with Hominine Records, to be released on New Year’s Eve of this year. KUR reminds me of some of the best Death Metal/Black Metal hybrids that hail from Europe.  They have slight raw feel to them, dark and heavy riffs complimented with hellish drumming and powerful guttural vocals, fusing the best parts of Death Metal and Black Metal for a satisfying listening experience. TRIVIUM Release “Thrown Into The Fire” Official Video!

If you aren’t already in the know, TRIVIUM recently released their new album “The Sin And The Sentence” with Roadrunner Records on October 20, 2017. Well, it doesn’t seem like they are wasting any time because they have also released an official video for the track ‘Thrown Into The Fire’ and holy shit is this a heavy one! The song features the newest addition to the TRIVIUM family, Drummer Alex Bent and it is their first new music since 2015s Silence In The Snow.  ‘Thrown Into The Fire’ is full of raw emotion and power, I would definitely say that is some of Matt Heafys best work vocally on both the harsh and clean spectrum, and his transitions into both styles are flawlessly executed, and perfectly timed. TRIVIUM fans the world over should rejoice because they are back, and heavy as they’ve ever been! Netherlands Power/Death Metal Hybrid SPARTAN Unveils New Beer And Supporting Release Show

If there was ever a perfect blend of Power Metal and Death Metal that perfection would be none other than Haarlem Netherland powerhouse SPARTAN. Marching in the standard Phalanx formation of their namesake, these brutal warriors are set to take the world by storm and gain the favor of metalheads worldwide with calculated ferocity. With their original formation being in 2007 SPARTAN now consists of Jeffrey Rademakers on vocals, Pieter Vink and Nick van Beusekom on guitar, Mike van Bekkum on bass and Frank Bos on drums. Although they are from the Netherlands, the members of SPARTAN have a deep love of Greek Mythology and lore. How could they not? The Greeks have won the hearts and minds of people the world over with their rich history, and awe inspiring tales of Gods, Goddesses, and brutal titans which the band has more than effectively translated to the here and now with an epic fusion of Power and Death Metal.  SPARTAN released their first E.P. in 2009 titled “For Glory” and the success of that album sent them marching through Holland, and later conquering a good portion of Europe between 2009-2013, where they shared the stage with metal icons such as Marduk, Moonspell, Septicflesh, Negura Bunget, and Rotting Christ. In 2014, they signed an endorsement deal with Dutch guitar makers ‘Serpent King Guitars’ and in 2015 they released their epic album “The Fall Of Olympus” with Into The Limelight Records Continue reading

State Of The Art: ABDUCTED

This month on State Of The Art we decided to feature bands from the frozen northern state of Alaska, and we’re kicking it off this week with a phenomenal Death Metal outfit that brings the fires of hell to the land of the midnight sun. ABDUCTED is a 5 piece death metal project from Fairbanks Alaska that falls short in no aspects of what makes the genre great, they are heavy, groovy, fast paced, in your face, and unapologetic. ABDUCTED consists of Dylan Chioffe – Vocals, Rick Peirce – Guitar, Jake Benoit – Guitar, Zain Mitchell – Bass, and Kris Larson – Drums.  Started in 2016 by Dylan and Jake, the band has wasted no time in getting their name out in the metal world. Album Review: CRADLE OF FILTH – Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness Of Decay

Suffolk, England – 1991. Darkness manifests itself to the world of the living in the form of CRADLE OF FILTH. 26 years and eleven studio albums later this looming leviathan is back to haunt the dreams of mankind yet again with their twelfth  studio album entitled “Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness Of Decay” (Nuclear Blast Records). Blazing fast execution, macabre imagery, and a complete mastery of the English language have allowed these creatures of the nether realm to imprint themselves into the upper echelons of extreme metal. Now comprised of Dani Filth – Vocals, Richard Shaw – Guitar, Marek ‘Ashok’ Smerda – Guitar, Daniel Firth – Bass, Lindsay Schoolcraft – Keys, and Martin Škaroupa – Drums, CRADLE OF FILTH is once again going to whisk you into a realm of lurid beauty and forlorn caliginosity.  Continue reading
