Chicago Open Air Spotlight : The Dillinger Escape Plan

*Every Thursday from now until Chicago Open Air gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*

This week’s artist is The Dillinger Escape Plan.

On July 14th, the guys in The Dillinger Escape Plan will take the stage in what could be the final time in the Chicago area. The energy and raw emotion displayed by all five men are something not to miss and seeing how this could be one of your few chances left, I highly suggest you do not pass up this set. The Dillinger Escape Plan are an American mathcore band from New Jersey. Formed in 1997 by  Ben Weinman (guitarist), Adam Doll (bass) Dimitri Minakakis (vocalist), and Chris Pennie (drummer). Named after depression era bank robber John Dillinger, the band went on to release 6 studio albums and 1 EP with Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr.Bungle, TomaHawk, Dead Cross) on Vocals, developing an influential musical style characterized by chaotic sonic onslaughts, technical complexity, and eclectic experimentation. Known for their high energy and ,at times insane live shows, the guys have been a force in the mathcore scene for years. The band’s final line-up which consists of Ben Weinman (only original remaining member\guitar), Liam Wilson (bassist), Greg Puciato (vocalist), Billy Rymer (drummer) and  Kevin Antreassian (guitarist) are currently touring for the last time and will break up later in 2017. Chicago Open Air Spotlight: Night Verses

*Every Thursday from now until Chicago Open Air gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*

This week’s artist is Night Verses.

On Saturday, July 15th, California/New York band Night Verses will be bringing their strange, varied sound to Chicago Open Air at Toyota Park. They formed in 2012 in Los Angeles when vocalist Douglas Robinson (The Sleeping) asked to collaborate with trio The Sound Archives. Later that year, they self-released their debut EP titled ‘Out of the Sky’. The quartet exhibits their wide range of influence extremely well in their releases. They are most prevalent in the post rock, alt metal, mathcore, and experimental categories. Night Verses carries an utterly dark, melodic sound that should make for a high intensity show not to be forgotten. Continue reading

State of the Art: New York – CAR BOMB

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*

This month’s State is New York

If you’ve been keeping up with the heavy music scene, you’d know that Car Bomb is about to take it by storm. The experimental mathcore band from Long Island released what was widely considered one of the best released of 2016 in metal with ‘Meta’. The band has a very raw, but technologically advanced sound that very few bands have perfected. The forming of the band started as early as 2000 when two New York bands Neck and Spooge shared a studio together. Soon, two members from each band decided it was time for something new and Car Bomb was formed as a side project in 2002. Impressively, the band has managed to keep the same lineup throughout all these years. They build their own equipment which allows them to create a sound exactly how they want it. Car Bomb has definitely gotten some high recognition having played shows with the likes of Dillinger Escape Plan, Gojira, Meshuggah, Ion Dissonance, and Ulcerate. The quartet has slowly but surely made their way up and are ready to dominate 2017. Continue reading
