Northlane
Well, here it is again – the Never Say Die! Tour. it’s a metalcore festival which tours European cities every autumn. It’s officially named ‘Impericon NSD,’ after the retail store Impericon who also organize another tour called Impericon Festival every spring. The NSD tour started in 2008 and since then have seen the likes of Parkway Drive, Unearth, Architecs, Protest the Hero, and many others. And this year’s tour with Northlane headlining is set to be a beauty. Continue reading
Our Hollow Our Home
I’ve been eagerly awaiting this day and it’s finally arrived. Time seemed to pass so slowly, and then once the day arrives, it’s over in the blink of an eye. UK’s finest, Our Hollow Our Home host their annual Holloween festival at The 1865 venue in Southampton. This is the second year of the event, and due to the great turnout last year, the show was moved to The 1865 because of the increased capacity. It was a perfect location, with two bars (essential to any metal show), and all the bands’ merch on sale upstairs. As you can see in the poster, the lineup for Holloween 2018 is why I was keen as mustard to go. The hosts, Our Hollow Our Home headline this beast of a day just after the release of their new album titled ‘In Moment // In Memory.’ I have a copy on black marble vinyl which looks and sounds amazing. Bad Wolves
So here we are again, another gig, another press pit and another great night in the city of Bristol in the UK. This is the first event I have covered at the Marble Factory in Bristol and this venue is awesome. It is set in a big warehouse and has an arena type vibe to the place. On arrival the 2 tour buses for Bad Wolves and Three Days Grace parked and fans queued all down the street behind the barriers. Continue reading
Glenn Hughes
Glenn Hughes aka “The Voice of Rock” and the band came out to an almighty roar at the o2 Academy Venue in Bristol, UK. Though Glenn has been in various bands like Trapeze, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, California Breed, and various others this tour was specifically about Glenn Hughes performing classic Deep Purple.
The cheers sounded like a stadium, the upstairs balcony area was also packed. Glen stepped onto the stage rocking a jacket with Union Jacks on the sleeves and of course his Yamaha bass. Continue reading
I was running late due to heavy traffic on the horrible M5, but had to rush to get to The Lanes venue to grab my credentials – luckily with no drama – and catch the end of True Heights‘ set who are blowing up in the UK right now. The festival is in its second year, and with a turn out that I witnessed, you would have thought it had been going longer than that. Fat Lip Fest is set in three different venues along one street in the city of Bristol, and all within a stone’s throw of each other. The Lanes had an inside stage and also an outdoor courtyard acoustic stage. Karl Ficarotta kicked off to a decent sized crowd in the courtyard, and rightfully so, with the release of his new video. Back in the 2000’s Glassjaw were one of my favourite go-to bands, but for different reasons like tour cancellations and personal reasons, I never made it to a gig. So when I had the opportunity to get access to an iconic venue with this iconic band I could not miss it. Continue reading
Ministry
Let’s just start by saying the doors were meant to open at 7:00 PM but that’s when Ministry‘s tour bus arrived. I witnessed the whole crew frantically getting all the gear into the venue in record time and emptying two trailers being towed by the tour bus in minutes. The doors officially opened at about 7:20 PM but fans were ushered upstairs to the other bar and smaller venue whilst Ministry set up and did sound checks. The late arrival was due to flight problems as far as I’m aware. Continue reading
Doyle
Doyle and Sulpher were just two of the jaw dropping acts to perform at this years Amplified Open Air Festival which took place on July 6th-8th at Quarrydowns, Gloucestershire, U.K.. The festival also included acts like Jinjer, Soil, Psychostick, Dust Bolt, Witch Tripper and several other over the course of the weekend. Doyle and Sulpher are just two of the stand out performances that took place. Continue reading
Knocked Loose
Lets start this by saying today the UK had a heatwave which started on route to Cardiff. My car’s temp gauge was saying it was 35 degrees c outside, but thanks to air conditioning I was comfy. I arrived and parked at the venue Clwb Ifor Bach located in the city center. I was there early and so were the fans. There was a sea of fans all enjoying cold beers in the local surrounding bars on this hot night. I went straight into the club and set my gear up in the green room, where members of all the bands were chilling. Upstairs to the venue was a lot cooler to start with, but then the fans came swarming in to witness the first band on the bill Guilt Trip. Continue reading
