After releasing videos for “Hold On”, “Blood Money”, and “Selfish”, Dope have now released a lyric video for the track “1999” from their new album ‘Blood Money, Part 1’, scheduled for release on 10/28 via eOne Music. Releasing 4 singles prior to the album’s release just shows that the band is proud of everything they have accomplished on this album. The album is the band’s first studio album in 7 years. Review: Shit The Cow ‘One With The Devil’ [Stream]

13669517_10153865576397734_8907213680921032679_o

Shit The Cow is a band of Swedish rockers set out to explore the limitations of their own universe, and from what I’ve heard there are no limits on what this band can do. The bands risk taking when it comes to sound has really developed their music into something new. They are conquering uncharted territory and inventing sound as they go. They’ve done what is classified as “rock disco” on their 2012 release ‘Volume/Cow’ before moving on to a more garage rock sound on 2013’s ‘Salt Of The Earth’. Then they evolved into a more punk feel with 2014’s ‘Rissna’ before moving to more darker elements on “67p” in 2015. The band has defined their sound as “Scrapyard Rock” and it’s very fitting. The band simply takes inspiration from all over and juxtaposes their sound. Continue reading

Review: Scattered Hamlet ‘Swamp Rebel Machine’

sccc

Scattered Hamlet classify themselves as “Honky Tonk Metal” and that classification is perfect. They have firmly planted their roots in a southern style of metal with a tremendous amount of blues. It’s not surprising that they mention some of their influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, as well as Hank Williams I, II and III. While those are easiy to hear in their music, they also give a nod to bands like Clutch, Down, Fu Manchu and Black Sabbath. Their style is smooth, fresh and flows like the finest bourbon. The different elements that complete the uniqueness in their music are vast just like their influences. Scattered Hamlet is set to release their new album ‘Swamp Rebel Machine’ on November 4th via BuckMoon Productions and pre-orders for the highly anticipated album have already started. The album was produced and mixed by Grammy nominated producer Jason Donaghy (Rob Zombie, John 5, The Murder Dolls) who also produced their debut album ‘Skeleton Dixie’. They have graced the stages Rocklahoma, SXSW, and Van’s Warped Tour. They make new fans where ever they roam, and have coined their fans as “Hellriders”. Pre-Order the album here.

Review: Dope – Blood Money, Part 1

dope_promo_2016

Some bands from the late 90’s and early 2000’s have faded away. Others have made a stale return and then there are bands like Dope who have stayed true to their sound and succeed since their formation. From the very moment in 1999 when I first saw the video for “Everything Sucks” I was hooked. While their were dozens of nu-metal bands already taking over the airwaves Dope had that extra something that others didn’t. One of their keys to success is the lyrics by singer and founder Edsel Dope. The lyrics are some of the most relatable you will ever hear.Any listener can take something away from each and every song. The band is about to release their 6th studio album and the bands first release in 7 years. ‘Blood Money, Part 1’ will release on October 28th via eOne Music. The band is currently on tour with Flaw and Motograter in what they are referring to as the Dope reunion tour which features the bands classic lineup of Edsel Dope, Acey Slade, Virus, & Racci Shay. Louder Than Life: Saturday Review [Photo Gallery]

Louder Than Life came back this year with such an amazing lineup. Last year had more of a southern rock feel and this year was so much heavier. Ranging from some older classic bands to some of music’s fastest up and comers the lineup was filled full talented bands of varying genres. Unfortunately, we can’t see every band, so if we didn’t mention someone here it’s simply that we had a conflicting schedule with their set. If only we could see every band it would be a perfect day. Review: Crowbar – The Serpent Only Lies

14370359_1390185477678157_1289321436013096927_n

The definition of Crowbar in the music world is… HEAVY. The New Orleans sludge masters have consistently put out one heavy record after another. The band has the best possible chemistry among band mates and it shows in their music. Crowbar recently welcomed bassist Todd “Sexy T” Strange back into the fold. Along with his thundering bass lines Todd brings with him his experience from within the band in its earliest days. A few years ago, founder and vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein decided to step away from his side project Down and put all his focus on Crowbar. That focus has been a complete success that can be heard on their last release ‘Symmetry In Black‘ and again on the upcoming album ‘The Serpent Only Lies‘ which is set to release on October 28th via eOne Music. Crowbar has become quite iconic. Recently, Metallica released their cover art for their new album and it has a close resemblance to Crowbar’s 1998 release ‘Odd Fellows Rest‘. However, no ones music can mimic the sound of Crowbar. Their sound resonates with metalheads near and far, and there is NONE HEAVIER.

We spoke to Tim about the bands chemistry for success, opening up for Clutch as the instrumental band The Bakerton Group, their selection process and past producers and even briefly spoke about corn dogs. 30 Years Later: Bass Players Unite In Honor Of Cliff Burton!

cliffburton11

SEPTEMBER 27TH, 1986 is a day that forever changed the music world and the lives of many. 30 years ago on this day Cliff Burton’s life was taken far too soon. Metallica was touring in Europe. Cliff won a card game which gave him the power to chose his bunk that night. He chose to sleep in guitarist Kirk Hammet’s bunk, and Kirk was to sleep in the front of the bus. While traveling to the next city their bus crashed in the early hours of September 27th, 1986 in Sweden. Cliff was thrown out the window of the bus. The whole band was distraught by the tragedy. Though he was only 24 years old Cliff’s time with Metallica had made a huge impact on music. His playing style captivated audiences around the world. Metallica had just released ‘Master of Puppets’, their third album and first for a major label, Elektra Records. The album was a showcase for Burton’s signature playing style. The album went gold, selling over six million copies world wide. A complete success. Burton’s music has inspired many. He not only inspired fans but also was revered by fellow musicians as well. Cliff has even inspired bassists that wasn’t alive at the time of his death. Through videos and live footage like ‘Cliff Em All’ those born well after his death are able to experience the legend and his passion for music. From the grave he is able to inspire many to create music. We can’t imagine how his music would have progressed over time. Metallica has had very talented bassists since his passing but no one will ever hold a flame to Cliff Burton. He personified bass playing. On this day we celebrate the life of Cliff Burton, he has been gone for 30 years and though he lays at rest now, his soul and his music is forever immortalized and lives on in his music and everyone he’s inspired.
