Album Review: WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM – ‘Thrice Woven’ [Album Stream]

I’m going to be perfectly blunt: American black metal bands aren’t supposed to be this damn good. While black metal is a dark, brooding, and relentless musical style that has cultivated a reverential following in Europe, it’s also a genre that truly lacks a thriving North American music scene that is comparative to bay area thrash metal or Floridian death metal, and great American black metal bands are few and far between.

Thankfully, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM is one of those rare and exceptional black metal bands from the good ole US of A who have attained a level of excellency rivaling that of their European counterparts. After over a decade since releasing their punishing yet atmospheric debut ‘Diadem Of 12 Stars’ in 2006, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have unveiled their newest record ‘Thrice Woven’: an album that is a masterpiece of thematic musicianship that intellectually moves the listener into a spellbinding trance from start to finish. Sure, it’s not necessarily news to say that WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have crafted a truly excellent album (again), but even at just five tracks in length, it still needs to be said that vocalist/guitarist Nathan Weaver, vocalist/guitarist Kody Keyworth, and drummer Aaron Weaver have created an album of the highest quality.

Are you sitting comfortably? Portuguese thrashers Terror Empire have just revealed their punishing new video for Burn The Flags from their hotly anticipated album Obscurity Rising.  You’re in for an absolute visual frenzy of a video whose intent is to “provide a feeling of permanent chaos and unrest”, built on the desire of “creating a sheer massacre unto the spectator’s sense” for “maximum intensity” refers guitarist Rui Alexandre.

FROM HOLLOW VEINS Premiere “Self Doubt” Lyric Video

(Long Island, NY – September 15th, 2017) Huntington metalcore quintet From Hollow Veins are premiering their brand new lyric video for ‘Self Doubt

From Hollow Veins are a post-hardcore band who formed in the fall of 2013 in Long Island, NY. While recording their first demo with producer Scott Gross, the guitarist of Long Island metalcore pioneers From Autumn to Ashes, saw the true potential within the group and inspired them to pursue their music career with full vigor.
After releasing their debut EP titled “From Hollow Veins” in 2015, From Hollow Veins have played most of the East Coast while sharing the stage with bands like Alesana, Sworn In, Get Scared, The Order of Elijah, Cane Hill and many more. From Hollow Veins have honed their craft and continue to claw their way to success.
Their brand new track ‘Self Doubt’ perfectly balances melody with aggression with thunderous guitars, powerful vocals and pounding drums. This track is reminiscent of Killswitch Engage, Vanna and Counterparts with clear growth and maturity from the band since their last outing. Their potential spotted by Scott Gross is starting to be realised and this track ‘Self Doubt’ is a shining example of that.

From Hollow Veins is:
Robert Folan – Vocals
Roberto Rivera – Guitar
Luke Lerman – Bass
Nick Montalvo – guitar
Ben Wyrick – Drums

Louder Than Life Spotlight: EAGLES OF DEATH METAL

*Every Tuesday and Thursday from now until Louder Than Life gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*

Today’s Artist is Eagles of Death Metal

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, then you’ve definitely heard of the monstrous lineup at this year’s Louder Than Life.  It seems this year’s roster has just about everything you’d need to satisfy a hard rock/metal lover – the scary sounds of Rob Zombie to the more melodical likes of Incubus.  But there’s one band that brings a little something different to the table of which their drummer, Josh Homme describes as “bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals.”  Ladies and gentlemen, Eagles of Death Metal. Review : EVIL INVADERS – “Feed Me Violence” [Official Video Streams]

Three long decades ago when the denims were tight, leather jackets worn, ragged and hair unkempt in the golden era of 1980s, Steve “Zetro” Souza of EXODUS shouted in the song “Deranged” off the album “Pleasures Of The Flesh”  in his raspy voice, “It doesn’t make me calmer, it only makes me mean“. Little did he know that those words would still carry the feeling and aggression portrayed in it, which is still relevant in today’s thrash metal and it is an innate characteristic of this highly erratic and fast sub-genre in the entire spectrum of metal. I quoted the above lyric because that is exactly what these four angry hot blooded young men from Belgium offer you in their latest sophomore release, “Feed Me Violence“, titled very aptly. Watch out for this fast paced, gritty and nerve wrecking thrash metal record from young guns EVIL INVADERS as the release date nears soon, coming out like a hot bomb via Napalm Records on September 29.

The Third Annual “Bowl For Ronnie” Charity Bowling Party Returns!

The third annual BOWL FOR RONNIE Bowling Party, benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund (www.diocancerfund.org), will take place on Friday, October 6, 2017 at Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City, California. The event will include a celebrity bowling tournament and a raffle drawing. Last year’s BOWL FOR RONNIE brought in $36,500 for the cancer charity, which is now in its eighth year of raising awareness and much-needed funding for cancer research.

The BOWL FOR RONNIE bowling tournament is the perfect time to be able to raise money and further awareness of the cancer charity that can provide much-needed help and support to the people who are suffering from this disease, as well as their loved ones. These donations don’t even need to be much. It could even be what you raise from selling something similar to these custom pins, or from other types of activities. Every little bit of money can help fund cancer research and can spread even more awareness to people in the local community. It should be an action-packed evening for all of the participants.

BOWL FOR RONNIE participants can anticipate an evening of fun, food, and, drink. Can you name a better event that combines both fun and fundraising in one? It wouldn’t even be surprising to hear if some of the younger participants decided to ask, “where to get a fake ID” so they can enjoy some of the beverages on offer too. But it’s not just about that. You can’t forget that you will be bowling with rockers and celebrities competing for trophies in the name of raising funds and awareness for the Dio Cancer Fund, which is much more important. Among the raffle prizes will be a specially-designed bowling ball and pin featuring the BOWL FOR RONNIE artwork (which is pictured above).

The event kicks off at 6:30 PM with open bowling and a VIP pre-party for lane sponsors, celebrities and their guests. Previous BOWL FOR RONNIE events brought together entertainers and artists such as Grammy award winning duo Tenacious D featuring Jack Black and Kyle Gass, Tom Morello (Prophets Of Rage & Rage Against The Machine), John 5, members of Mastodon, Steven Adler of Guns and Roses, Lita Ford, members of the Grammy nominated group Stone Sour and many more. Last year John 5 and Tom Morello who as members of Eddie Trunk‘s bowling team, took top honors for the highest celebrity bowling team score. Do you want to know how they do so well? It’s all in the bowling ball, to learn more, you could check out this website.

PROPHETS OF RAGE In Washington, D.C. [Photo Gallery]

Prophets Of Rage

Prophets of Rage, the rap rock supergroup consists of members of Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Wakrat, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill played to a packed crowd at the iconic 9:30 Club in Washington DC on last Wednesday night. While my political views no longer resonate with the lyrics of RATM and Prophets Of Rage, my opinion on their music has remained unchanged. I well and truly believe that the original quartet of RATM are a bunch of creative geniuses, and that is why they had been so successful in capturing the imagination of millions around the world. Tom Morello is consistently ranked among the finest modern guitarist. My primary interest in this show was because of the RATM songs the lineups were playing. And tonight was the night.

EP Review: Prostitution – ‘Egyptian Blue’

High levels of activity, thriving urbanization, fortification in disposition and a mysterious yet entrancing underbelly are all indefatigable qualities associated with Brooklyn. One lesser-known concept hailing from said place would be the incorrigibly experimental blackened metal group Prostitutionwho evidently are set to release their new cryptically titled EP Egyptian Blue’ on 10 October 2017. The group is a power trio consisting of bassist/vocalist Jesse Adelson of Beast Modulus, guitarist/vocalist Russ Cowen of Black Harvest and drummer Jason Spence of Demilitia. The EP was produced and mixed by Anthony Lopardo and Raymond Marte and is an independent release.  Continue reading
