Dark Buddha Rising are a Finland based band that has been creating music since 2007. They are preparing to release their fifth studio album titled “Inversum”. The album is the follow up to their 2013 release “Dakhmandal”. The new album will be hitting shelves on September 25th and marks the band’s first release on their new label Neurot Recordings. Dark Buddha Rising is comprised of six members and have a very unique sound that really puts them outside the box when compared to other bands in the metal world.
The old saying “less is more” holds very true when speaking about the album “Inversum”. The album packs everything the band has to offer into 2 tracks. You may think this is a short album but think again. The album is over 47 minutes long with each track lasting around 24 minutes of greatness. Both tracks will take you on this long winding journey from ambient sounds to blackened psychedelic doom. Track one titled “ESO” starts almost like an eerie intro waiting for the band to take stage. It has this really climactic opening and it really transports you in front of the stage eagerly awaiting the band. The song really doesn’t kick in at any point drastically. The intro really bleeds into a full on song similar to a jam based doom session. At the 8 minute mark you start to hear some chanting vocals and the rhythmic drumming bring this somber doom feel to the song. When you least expect it these thick sludgy guitar parts reminiscent of EYE HATE GOD start thundering through in the song. The black metal elements hold true at the halfway point in the song as well. The backing vocals with the upfront screaming is an amazing overall sound that I haven’t heard to this quality before.
Inversum
Moving on to track two “Exo”. Again we start with an intro, but this one is a whole different style. A tribal like drum beat gets the song started. It seems almost like every instrument is introduced at certain times and they don’t all begin at once. This song has a sound that continues to build as the seconds pass. Elements are slowly added to the song which usually send it in a different direction. A little after the 6 minute mark the doom rears its ugly head and is all up in your face. It lurks around for a period of time and then settles to the bottom and allows the black metal elements to surface. This album has a unique sound that as a whole can’t be compared to anyone else. Each song is a maze through different elements that the band excels at. Psychedelic vibes along with tribal like drum beats mixed with the low toned sludgy guitar riffs and then into the dark depths of black metal. You will not find another band similar to Dark Buddha Rising. Want something new and refreshing? Tired of the same old shit? Get this album, you haven’t heard anything like it.
