We have been hearing about the upcoming MEGADETH record, that is the follow up to 2016’s grammy winning ‘Dystopia‘, ever since Dave Mustaine confirmed Guitar World that the new album is dropping in 2019, “absolutely. For sure“. So, guess we aren’t too far away from witnessing the 16th studio album from the thrash titans. All of this is turning out to be even more truer as Dave Mustaine yesterday teased us a small snippet of Dirk Verbeuren practicing his parts for an unnamed song, which is most likely to be included in the upcoming album. The video shared on Dave’s twitter account was captioned as, “The Cheshire Cat is smiling! Enjoy a lil tease. @Megadeth @VerbeurenDirk #Album16″ The sessions are being co-produced by Chris Rakestraw, who previously worked on 2016’s “Dystopia” disc.”
This upcoming record is going to be Dirk Verbeuren’s very first record with the group ever since he left his previous band SOILWORK and replaced Chris Adler mid way in their album tour cycle more than two years ago. Back in June, while featuring on ‘Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon‘ Dave lauded heaps of praise on Dirk’s drumming skills. He said, “The stuff that Dirk‘s been playing along to it is scary. We’ve never had any of those blast-beat kind of things on our music before, and some of the drumming on this is so mind-blowing. It’s making me a better guitar player again, which I love. But I never thought we were gonna be playing this fast or this aggressive again“. I’m pretty sure from the statement and the teaser that the next album will feature some unprecedented MEGADETH drumming.
Meanwhile, this would be the second album to feature Kiko Loureiro, after his excellent work on ‘Dystopia‘.
In other news, MEGADETH has joined the bandwagon of metal cruises with their own venture of Megacruise which is all set to kick off next fall. The boat will set off from Los Angeles on October 13, 2019 and visit San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico before returning to L.A. on October 18, 2019. Some of the bands that have been confirmed are ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, DEVILDRIVER and many more yet to be announced.
Till then take a look at Dirk hitting those drums, the way he does the best. Tell us how stoked you are for the new MEGADETH record.
