This month’s State is Texas!
The Dallas based band Onward We March has been using a do it yourself approach since their formation back in 2008. The five member group of Texans have a heavy progressive sound that originally started as a simply jam session in a living room that morphed into something so much more. The band released their debut album “The Golden Vine” in January of 2011 and that was just the beginning.

The bands newest EP ‘Ocean Harvest’ really caught my eye with its amazing cover art. It reminds me of my high school days when you would go to the record store and pick out an album based on nothing but cover art. I may add that the artwork was done by Dan Colcer, who I may add is a spectacular artist not only with this piece but various others. Sometimes picking an album by the cover turns out bad, but sometimes you come across some really killer shit. This 3 track EP did not disappoint me, in fact it’s very impressive. The three different songs really showcase the varying sound the band has. This band is the exact opposite of vanilla, they have varying sounds and styles all throughout their music, but everything is molded around this very strong progressive core. The song “Trust Me” on the EP is a major stand out. The lingering guitar riffs and the deep yet rhythmic growl of singer Chris Hobbs makes everything so memorable. Each track both old and new seems very organic and that the song was composed perfectly without forcing anything. Like they may have started as a jam session it seems their music is still built that way and it makes everything fit together so well. The vocals change slightly from track to track. They change enough to make it different so everything isn’t the same, but stay in the same neighborhood of sound so that it doesn’t stray that far from their signature sound.
