This month’s State is Connecticut!
Connecticut is home to more than a handful of great bands. Dead By Wednesday is yet another great band that calls the state home. They formed back in 2005 and have 4 releases under their belt. The bands sound is a mixture of various elements and influences that really give their music that little something extra that pushes them over the edge and makes them great. Being from the state of Connecticut it’s not surprising they have bumped elbows with legends like Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow, Jasta). The bands initial debut album ‘Democracy is Dead’ was released on Jasta’s label Stillborn Records in 2005. The album was successful right out of the gate by selling more than 3,000 copies.
The band at times has been referred to as crossover, but there is so much more to their sound. They have this raw unfiltered aggressive sound that is meshed with these semi clean melodic vocal parts. Singer Rob Roy sings both his screaming parts and clean parts with ease. At times you can easily hear some punk rock influence and other times it’s absent. The melding of their influences helps the band have a broad style and sound that fans have grown to love thought the bands career. Most of the songs by the band will stay rattling around in your head for days. The band has shown progression and their sound continues to evolve into something slightly different with each new album. If you listen to the title track from ‘Democracy is Dead’ and then compare it to the single from the newest album “When In Rome” it’s surprising at the changes and direction the band has taken. This is by no means a bad thing. Sometimes you have to change to continue on. The band is still a finely tuned machine with very talented musicians all around. The groove created by expert bassist Mike Modeste has a major impact on the bands overall sound. The low lying deep tones create an amazing foundation for everything that follows. Guitarist Joey Concepcion and drummer Opus are equally amazing at their instruments and the band works together as a team and continue to create great music even 10 years down the road from when they formed.
As we approach 2016 and they have 4 superb albums under their belt. The newest release first graced our ears on June 24, 2014 and was produced by Nicholas T. Rage of Toxic Holocaust who has famously produced a lot of Jamey Jasta’s projects. You can hear the energy in the music and I’m sure you can see it live when they perform as well. Look for these guys in 2016 because their upcoming album is one of great anticipation for many metal heads. The upcoming new album entitled “Darkest of Angels” will feature all guest singers and not just any guest singers but some of the best voices in metal. Some of the singers included on the album are Brian Fair of Shadows Fall / Overcast, Rob Dukes of Generation Kill / ex-Exodus, Ceschi & David Ramos from Annoyomous & Fake Four Inc., Paul Stoddard of Diecast, John Arch of Fates Warning, Carley Coma of Candiria, Kris Keyes of Gargantua Soul, Sean Danielson of Smile Empty Soul, Eric AK of Flotsam & Jetsam, Antony Armageddon, and Waylon Reavis formerly Mushroom Head.
