Hello metalheads, Rattlehead here with another piece of new release news. Looks like we’re not leaving the Indian metal scene anytime soon now. So, today’s news is a video release from the symphonic blackened death metal band from Mumbai, India called, ‘Demonic Resurrection‘. They have been around for 17 years and have put out five albums and two EPs all this while, which is incredible in itself. They have really pinned India on the global metal map and are rightly called the ‘flag bearers of Indian metal’, they have also done shows in reputed European festivals like Wacken Open Air in Germany, Bloodstock Festival in the U.K., and the beautiful MetalDays festival in Slovenia etc. It all began with their debut album titled, ‘Demonstealer’ in 2000 and since then you can actually see they have not only been a dynamic outfit but also constantly changed their approach to their sound along with a couple of line up changes. The new album, ‘Dashavatar’ that released on March 15 this year is a testimonial to this very fact. Spearheaded by vocalist & guitarist, Sahil Makhija, who is also involved in other side projects like Reptilian Death, Workshop and just so you know, for the awe factor, he also runs a cooking show, ‘Headbanger’s Kitchen’. Now that is some serious multi-tasking. Anyways, let’s plunge into the video.
‘Narasimha – The Man-Lion’, is the fifth track and the first official video from their new album, ‘Dashavatar’ released barely a month ago. Without any delay Demonic Resurrection makes sure you take the hit right from the first second of the track, blistering off with a powerful riff that is reminiscent of kind of their signature riff if you have followed this band closely, but yet different and dynamic on many accounts. There are certain groovy sections as well that perfectly fit into the fast and gruelling nature of the song, also accompanied by the background symphony, thanks to the keyboards. Not to forget the chorus which is pretty grandeur in nature. Nishith Hedge, the band’s lead guitarist successfully pulls of a beautiful mid tempo melodic solo, that adds the extra aura to this song. Drumming has been on point with the repetitive fast sections coupled with the rhythmic normal paced ones. It is indeed a track laden with several layers and a top notch production, you only explore more with each spin and that is what makes this song and the whole record a unique one.
The video has been excellently shot. Directed by Guilherme Henriques Silva who’s worked with other incredible bands like Belphegor, Noctem, Unfathomable Ruination, Wormed etc, leaves no stone unturned in making this video among the leagues of the ones he’s worked with. With close range shots that clearly show the hard work put into the make up of the characters is purely commendable, the various angles and frantic movement of the camera has been excellently done and it keeps you intrigued into the video as the events of the mythological story the songs depicts unravel. The song is based on Narasimha(The Man-Lion), a character from Indian mythology, and an avatar of the god Vishnu. As frontman, Sahil ‘Demonstealer’ Makhija narrates us this epic tale through his outrageous growls, he successfully takes me down the nostalgic memory lane when as a kid my dad would tell me how Vishnu in the avatar of Narasimha would creatively defeat the special powers of the demon king, Hiranyakashipu, that by which no man or creature could kill him, so that he bullies and prosecutes people who disagrees with him, including his own son, and thereby killing Hiranyakashipu. This has been precisely portrayed in the video leaving behind some minute details of the mythological event, which is comprehensible. I won’t dissect it more, so go ahead and check the video below.
The album has been mastered by Victor Bullok who has worked for reputed bands like Obscura, Dark Fortress, Hannes Grossmann, Pestilence, Triptykon, Christian Munzner and many more. I promise you, this is one excellent album you can treat your ears to.
