US Doom super-group Vessel Of Light is the new collaboratory project born from the unlikely pairing of Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non-Fiction, and The Cursed) and Nathan Opposition (Ancient VVisdom). Their debut 6-track EP releases this Friday 3rd November on Argonauta Records (pre-orders available here) and is a hauntingly atmospheric concoction of sludgy doom-rock, heavily laden with murderous lyrics and old-school hooks. They premiered their first single “Meant To Be” at the end of August (available now on iTunes) and have recently just released a lyric video to “Dead Flesh And Bones”, the second track taken from this most intriguing record. When legendary guitarist Dan Lorenzo from the East-Coasts mighty 80’s power/thrash band Hades started a dialogue with Nathan Opposition (after many an email and phone call) the powerhouse-to-be Vessel Of Light was born. The friendship began after Lorenzo wrote an article about Hades for NJ’s Steppin’ Out magazine and mailed a copy, alongside one of Hades records to Opposition.
Lorenzo explains “ I had no intentions of asking him [Opposition] to write with me because my musical career is long over. I’m considerably older than him and I honestly wasn’t playing guitar much, but when Nathan asked me if I wanted to write together I couldn’t say no.” – and we’re glad you didn’t! Nathan Opposition comments, “Lorenzo and I became friends due to my inability to not be susceptible to flattery. Turns out he’s a really cool guy who writes awesome riffs too. Randomly one day I ask him about the band we are starting in joking fashion. I guess it was the right timing and the right person because we immediately agreed we should actually start a project. Before I knew it he was sending me CDs of riffs and I had lyrics flowing like a faucet.”
The duo entered Brainchild Studios in Cleveland to record their 21 minute long debut during Summer 2017, the track listing will be as follows:
