Megadeth has launched a cryptic countdown on their official website, sparking speculation among fans about the band’s next move. The site currently displays a plain white background with the Megadeth logo, a countdown clock set to expire tomorrow at 11 a.m. EDT, and a lyric excerpt from their 1990 track Holy Wars… The Punishment Due:
“The end is near / It’s crystal clear / Part of the master plan…”
The band also shared the countdown link on social media with the caption “The end is near,” further fueling rumors. While some fans believe the reveal may be tied to Rust In Peace, the album’s anniversary falls on September 24, not August 14. Next year marks the record’s 35th anniversary, which could be a factor.
Megadeth has been working in the studio in recent months, leading many to anticipate a new album announcement. Others have speculated the reveal could have larger implications for the band’s future. No official details have been released.
The countdown will conclude tomorrow morning, at which point the band is expected to make an official announcement.
