KIRRA Announces 2018 Tour With NOTHING MORE, THE CONTORTIONIST, & BIG STORY

Oklahoma City-based rock band Kirra joins Nothing More on 2018 North American tour. The tour kicks off on February 3, starting in Little Rock, Arkansas, and finishes on March 3, ending on the West Coast in Sacramento, California.

Kirra tours in support of their debut album, ‘Run Away’ (2016), the remastered version of their single, “Downfall” (2017), and their latest single, “My Disease” (2017), all available via Pavement Entertainment.  ‘Run Away’ has a little of everything in it lyrically, but more specifically makes a commentary about the music industry. “We wanted to make a statement about overproduction in the music industry today. We wanted to prove you don’t need a bunch of tricks to writing good songs,” says lead guitarist Daxton Page. “I feel ‘Run Away’ was a direct reflection of where we were musically and personally at that moment in time.” Continue reading

The Bucketlist with TEN TWO

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

Former Still The Sky’s Limit frontman John Barthelmass, better known as ‘JB’ or Johnny B, has been quickly making waves in the music community with his solo career under the name Ten Two.  The singer/songwriter uprooted himself from his home in Orange County, California and relocated 3,000 miles away to Orlando, FL to further pursue his music career and his upcoming solo debut release ‘Forth’ is slated for release January 5, 2018.  According to the Ten Two Facebook page, “JB focuses not on what could have been but instead choosing to focus on the future—all that is and can be. It’s this mantra that he channels into his upcoming solo debut release Forth. Encompassing the loud, the calm, and everything in between, it is a two-sided album through which he explores a unique musical and emotional duality by juxtaposing his alt-rock past with his present as a budding acoustic singer/songwriter.”   Sounds to me like the makings of some good quality songs, as I’m not too keen on focusing on the past myself – look to the future and make your own reality. The Bucketlist with SHADOW OF WHALES

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

Here at Metal Nexus, our goal is to bring the best in news, updates, and the goings-on with your favorite rock and metal groups.  As well as this, we also strive to bring attention to lesser-known bands that are just as talented.  As many of you know, our Bucketlist segment has shone light on many bands – from main acts on a festival lineup to festival openers and everyone in between.  Recently, Metal Nexus established contact with a great up and coming band that some may know, Shadow of Whales.  Admittedly, I had never heard the band, but after hearing a few songs, I was hooked immediately. Since 1999, A Perfect Circle have become giants in the music industry thanks to three very successful studio releases – ‘Mer De Noms’ (2000), ‘Thirteenth Step’ (2003), ‘Emotive’ (2004).  They’ve acquired one of the most loyal fan bases, as well as selling out countless arenas and headlining some of the biggest music festivals in the world.  The band’s current lineup consists of vocalist Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer), guitarist Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide), rhythm guitarist/keyboardist James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), drummer Jeff Friedl (The Beta Machine, Puscifer), and bassist Matt McJunkin (The Beta Machine, Puscifer), all of which bring exactly what A Perfect Circle’s sound calls for musically.  A Perfect Circle has recently announced signing with a new label, BMG Rights Management, and began touring with supporting act The Beta Machine in mid-2017, playing new material from their newly-announced upcoming fourth studio album.  In the midst of their ongoing tour, the band made a stop in Knoxville, TN on October 30th, 2017 at the Thompson-Boling Arena and I was there. Louder Than Life 2017 – Louisville, KY DAY 2 REVIEW

With Day 1 in the books, the morning of Day 2 greeted everyone with clear blue skies, terrible hangovers, and the excitement the see just how it could be any better than Day 1.  My wife and I had a few friends over at our campsite for some pre-show breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, and hot coffee (not bad, right?).  Afterwards, we all ventured to the camp showers where I was extremely impressed with how well maintained the facilities were and how easy and quick it was to get in and out.  With a hot shower and our bellies full, we all headed to the entrance where Black Map was already tearing it up with a loud wakeup to open Day 2 taking the place of Biters, who were unable to make it, as the day’s opener.  The band hit the crowd with early-morning performances of “Octavia”, “No Color”, and “Run Rabbit Run”, among others.  Our very own Metal Nexus founder, Fist, got a chance to sit down with Ben Flanagan of Black Map for an insightful interview at the festival, which you can watch HERE.
