Max Cavalera returns to Talk Toomey this week to talk about the latest Soulfly release Ritual. Ritual will be released this Friday through Nuclear Blast Records. The album is a throwback to early Soulfly and Roots era Sepultura. Max and I discuss Marc Rizzo and his outstanding playing on this release. Zyon Cavalera on drums steps up and delivers. We also discuss the recording of Ritual with Josh Wilbur and the album’s crushing tones. Max also talks about when and if they will celebrate Chaos A.D.  

Seann Nicols of The Westfield Massacre joins the show to discuss their upcoming release. Seann also talks about how he joined former Guns N Roses drummer Steven Adler in Adler’s Appetite through a radio show. We talk about his time in Quiet Riot and how that soured. But most importantly we talk all things Westfield Massacre.

The Podfather himself, Ken Mills, stops by for a chat about Zilch!. Zilch is the all Monkees podcast that knocked Talk Toomey out of the Podcast Kings bracket that was put on by Ear Peeler.

Glen Benton returns to the Talk Toomey Podcast. Glen and I discuss the last time he made an appearance on the show and the comments that blew up the internet. We also discuss Deicide’s new album Overtures of Blasphemy that is due out Sept 14. Glen and I talk about bands and their products outside the music, But most of all we laugh and make fun of things.

In the last of the Rock N Pod Expo interviews, I have a cohost! Friend of the show Jeremy Owsley sits down with myself and we talk with the great Kenny Olson. Kenny talks about the landmark album Devil Without A Cause. Kenny and Jeremy recall tour stories together. We talk about Kenny’s preferences in a bus driver. Kenny and Jeremy talk about Joe C and tell great stories. Kenny was once again a fantastic guest.

The Metal Cowboy himself, Ron Keel, joins the Talk Toomey Podcast. This was a great interview recorded at the Nashville Rock N Pod Expo. Ron and I talk about his Nashville roots and the early days of Steeler. Ron talks about his transition from rock to country and back. We discuss his interviewing Garth Brooks and end with some Yngwie Malmsteen talk.

Producer Toby Wright returns to the podcast to talk all things Follow the Leader. Follow the Leader is the 20 year old landmark album by Korn. Toby discusses the recording process, the web series that was revolutionary at the time and the response to the album. If you are a fan of the record, you must check out this episode. Next up is Thom Hazaert. Thom is a friend of the show and great to see in person. Thom and I discuss the origins of his relationship with David Ellefson of Megadeth. We talk about his promoting of a Primer 55 show and releasing a Primer 55 album on his label. Thom tells us about the future of EMP Label Group and so much more.

Two interviews this week. First up is the vocalist of Nonpoint, Elias Soriano. Elias and I discuss the latest Nonpoint album “X”. We also talk about listening to new music, parents supporting your decisions and making a setlist after all these years and albums.

Next up is Eric Peterson of Testament to talk about his project Dragonlord. Eric and I talk about the latest Slayer tour, playing with Alex Bent and where he would like to take Dragonlord.

I took a trip to Nashville this week to talk to Gene Hoglan. We sat down before the Slayer show at the Municipal Auditorium. Gene and I discuss the art of filling in for a band last minute, Charlie Benante’s dumming style and his history in Dark (not Death Angel) Angel. Gene talked about his time in Fear Factory.
