Tom Smith is the guitarist for The Acacia Strain. Tom spent time under the tutelage of uber producer Will Putney (Fit For An Autopsy) learning the craft of recording records, which was put to use when Tom helped write and record the bands latest offering, 2019’s surprise EP, It Comes In Waves.
The Acacia Strain have carved out a career for themselves as being one of the most brutal and consistent bands going over the last 2 decades, churning out records and touring nonstop behind them which is why is it was quite the surprise when the band dropped a surprise EP, It Comes In Waves, at the end of 2019, the first to feature Smith on any recorded work of the bands. The band are about t embark on lots of touring behind this new EP, and an as yet released full length , while also celebrating the 10 year anniversary of their album Wormwood.
With the band having just recently completed a year plus run celebrating the 10 years of their album Continent, which also effectively killed the momentum of giving a proper push to their most recent album, Gravebloom. Tom offers up that the band has taken what they learned from supporting an older album in favor of the newer material and how they have something special in mind to effectively celebrate Wormwood and their newer material.
“I can’t talk in depth about it, but we have, because of the way Continent and Gravebloom…essentially Continent 10 year ruined Gravebloom.
Because of the way that went, we are in the process of coming to fruition an idea that will occur later in the year that will honor the new stuff and Wormwood as an anniversary in, I think, a very cool and unique way, but everything we cam do to honor that record, cause it’s super important to the band and to our fans, while also honoring the new stuff that we’re putting out and making sure that the proper attention is given to the newer stuff, so we can move forward with the newer stuff.
I can’t go in depth about it, but there’s an idea that we’ve got that we’re working out the kinks with and literally just getting it solidified with booking agents and all the management side of stuff.”
Sounds like Acacia Strain fans have a lot to look forward to in 2020 with another full length album on the way, a reissue of Wormwood and a tour in some capacity to support it all. Stay tuned for more info.
