Rock and Roll returned to Whitesburg, Kentucky and the Appalshop! Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown along with The Cold Stares reminded everyone in attendance what rock and roll was supposed to sound like and that it’s supposed to be played very very loudly!! You know that saying “If it’s too loud, you’re too old”? There was a wide range of ages represented in this audience, not one person left!

The Cold Stares were first to get this enthusiastic Appalshop crowd wound up. If you’ve not seen these guys live yet, do yourself a favor, find a show and go see them!! This was the 4th time I’ve seen them and I have the same thought every time, how do two guys put out so much sound? Brian Mullins on drums and Chris Tapp on guitars bring more sound that most 4 or 5 piece bands. With songs like “Jesus’ Brother James” “Sleeping with Lions” (that was featured on TNT’s show Animal Kingdom last summer) “God and Country” and “Head Bent” which is the title track of their latest album Head Bent, it would be hard for me to pick a favorite. I’m telling you, get out and see these guys!

If you thought The Cold Stares were loud, Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown were about to take it up a few notches! Tyler Bryant on vocals and guitar, Caleb Crosby on drums and vocals, Graham Whitford (son of Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford who has also played this room) on guitar and vocals and Noah Denny on bass and vocals make up Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown. These guys are the real deal rock and roll band. They’ve been out of the road with Blackberry Smoke and Guns N Roses just to name a couple. This is a talented group of guys! It didn’t matter to them if they were playing in front of 60 people or 60,000 they tore the roof off of the Appalshop Theater, everyone in Whitesburg needed to hear them, and probably did considering how loud they were! Starting the night off with “Backfire” and “Aftershock” both from the self-titled album released last year. That was  just the start of a momentous 12 song set! Other songs included in the set were “The Wayside” and “Mojo Working” closing the night out with “Weak and Weepin’” before coming back out for a blistering encore of “Ramblin’ Bones”. That encore brought to end a great, no not a great but extraordinary night of rock n roll music at the Appalshop Theater.

Get out and support both these bands when you can by going to a show or buying their tunes!
