CORRODED Bring The Heat With “Bitter”- Album Review

Swedish hard rockers Corroded are back with their fifth album, Bitter, out via Despotz Records. Since 2009, Corroded has been the backdrop of many forms of media, having the music featured in Sweden’s 2009 season of Survivor and the video game Battlefield Play4Free. Taking influences from Black Sabbath and Machine Head, Corroded have hard-hitting riffs that memorable and combined with Jen Westlin’s vocals make crowd-pleasing anthems. Since their last release, Defcon Zero, Corroded has played all across Europe, selling out shows with Pain as well as their own headlining tour. Playing massive crowds at Sabaton Open Air, Skogsröjet and Sweden Rock Festival, where they broke records as the largest crowd at the 4 Sound Stage

Corroded pride themselves as being brothers, a family unit that works together to put music out into the ether. According to Westlin, “It’s what has gotten us where we are today – we never give up – despite setbacks that have hit us like a fist to the face we get up and use that as inspiration to create new music.” says Westlin, “Our background is in the working class which is reflected in our music. The fact that we’ve had to struggle with various setbacks to get where we are today has given us thicker skin and shines through in our music.” This album leans a little more on the heavier side than their previous work. A lot of their influences blend well together, finding a blend of European power metal with Southern American spices spread throughout. The album starts with an intro track, something that is a bit dated now but can be easily hand waived. No harm, no foul. But the second track, “Breathing”, you see the unity this band has through their music. Each bringing their own to this song, especially Guitarist Tomas Andersson. The main riff is very catchy and gets rhythm support by Per Solang (drums) and Bjarne Elvsgard (bass). This album is full of great battle anthems, something they excel at, like “Testament”. Full of chanting vocals, this is sure to become a fan favorite in their setlist. This is paired well with the follow-up track, “Scream”; Catchy choruses seem to be their bread and butter. The fastest track, “Destruction”, is a great biker rock anthem. That ended up becoming my personal favorite, featuring Westlin’s diverse vocal talent.

This is a very accessible band for fans of hard rock who are maybe looking for something a little heavier at the summer festival. With chanty choruses, I can see many beer glasses raised in Corroded’s honor. Bitter is a good track for your summer is available now! Corroded is Jens Westlin(Lead Vocals), Tomas Andersson (Guitars), Bjarne Elvsgard  (Bass), Per Solang (Drums). To keep up with them, follow them on Facebook and their website

Review: MACHINE HEAD – ‘Catharsis’ [Official Video + Track Stream]

Throughout their 24 year career, the modern metal colossus that is Machine Head have seen their fair amount of love, hate and skepticism. A band who change with the times, not necessarily with the trends, they have shown especially interesting senses of progression most recently through adding string sections, choral chants and a bigger sense of scope to their crushing brand of metal. Fans have been kept on their toes in other words and the Machine Head brand is not easily painted into a corner. So when the band’s new record, ‘Catharsis’, was unveiled and its mission statement was to be a major statement for rock & metal music in 2018, one can’t help but let curiosity take over and see what the Cali boys have concocted this time. ‘Catharsis’ was recorded with Zack Ohren (Fallujah, All Shall Perish) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California and will be released via Nuclear Blast on January 26th, 2018.

MACHINE HEAD’s Robb Flynn Reunited with Stolen Guitars [Video]

flllll

It’s been 6 years ago that Robb Flynn‘s Martinez, CA house was burglarized. Stolen with the cash, jewelry, and other items were four guitars, and amongst these four was easily one of his most meaningful possession, a 1997 Washburn Dimebolt guitar that was given to him onstage at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, by the late-great Pantera guitarist, Dimebag Darrel. It’s something that holds a huge sentimental value and can never be replaced.

Last night, some six years later, it was returned to him along with an un-released Epiphone prototype.

Robb Flynn of Machine Head Has A New Hero…..

Robb Flynn lead singer for one of heavy metals finest bands Machine Head are currently in Australia. The last date of the sold out “An Evening With” tour in Australia ended last night in Perth. After Robb’s flight from Adelaide to Perth he noticed he no longer had his phone. As we all know your cell phone especially when abroad is a life line. It’s your email, social media, gps, well you get the point, it’s everything.

Robb explained what happened via Instagram:

I left my phone on the flight from Adelaide to Perth yesterday, AGH!! I discovered it missing when we got to the hotel. FUUUUCK!! Thanks to “Find My iPhone” app I was able to track it back to the airport. My TM and I went back re-traced my steps around the coffee shop, bathroom, everywhere I went after I got off the plane, but mysteriously, my phone kept saying it was out on the tarmac. We learned from when someone broke into our dressing room and stole Dave’s iPhone (and eventually got back from thief) that the app s not 100% accurate but pretty damn close. So I took it all with a grain of salt. Eventually we found the dude below, and this guy went way, way, WAY above and beyond the call of duty looking for the phone out on the tarmac, which was a restricted area that we couldn’t go to. He kept coming back saying there was nothing out there, that it had to be wrong, and after 2 hours I was ready to give up, and resign myself to buying a new phone because let’s face it, in this day and age, EVERYTHING goes through your iPhone! He went back one more time, and miraculously, he found the phone!! He kept pinging it with the “play sound” feature (which sets off a ringtone), and where did he find it? Not on the plane, oh no… it was under a fence, in the outside area of the tarmac!!?? Apparently some Qantas Airlines employee in charge of cleaning the planes had found it and rather than turn it into lost & found, stashed it to take home, in hopes I’d forget it or something. Regardless, for the unbelievable amount of effort Mr. Scott Macander put into helping me out, this guy is getting a “DUDE’S A HERO” moniker!!! He stayed an hour after work to keep looking for it, and help a complete stranger, and that was after he’d worked from 4 AM to 4PM! I’m so damn inspired by this guy!! An average person / stranger who helps us out for no reason in particular other than just being a rad person. I tell ya man, in a world where everyone is often too busy helping themselves, and in a fat ass hurry to get on with their own lives, this guy did the opposite, am I grateful he did!!

Hero of the day is Scott Macander!
