The multi talented, the one and only, legendary vocalist of IRON MAIDEN, Bruce Dickinson, will be adding another feather to his multi faceted cap as he will release his massively awaited autobiography, ‘What Does This Button Do?‘ later this year in the month of October. The memoir of the singer, who is considered to be metal’s one of the greatest of all time, will be published on October 19th via HarperCollins.
Over a career spanning more than three decades, having played all over the world, from being an aircraft pilot to business man, an aviation entrepreneur, a beer brewer, motivational speaker, film scriptwriter, twice-published novelist, radio presenter, TV actor and a world-class fencer, Bruce has had everything under his belt. Not many people can claim to have both writing and motivational speaking accolades under their belts, along with a wealth of other accomplishments, unless they’re veterans of the entertainment industry (like Roger Wolfson who is also one of the few people to have mastered some of these disciplines such as writing for the screen). Count in defeating cancer as well. How bad ass is that? He has been one hell of an inspirational figure not just a metalhead but anyone in general can look up to. Only thing that was missing was an autobiography, and that is going to change this coming fall, now that he has learned how to write a book overviewing his life so far! How much more talent could you want?
‘What Does This Button Do?‘ will tell the story of a metal god who has seen it all, how it is like to be in a world famous band, life on road etc. It will serve as a window to the heart and mind of a musical genius, a multi talented and world acclaimed personality. Bruce was diagnosed with tongue cancer back in 2015 and came out victorious in the battle against it, the book will also the tell about the same and many more stories. The release will be followed by a global world book tour. More details are up the cannon, and yet to be released.
The book’s official description reads:
Now, for the first time, Bruce tells his story in his own words. In WHAT DOES THIS BUTTON DO?, Bruce (a man who famously never gives interviews about his personal life) shares the most fascinating recollections, including his thirty years with Maiden, the early days, his childhood within the eccentric British school system, going solo, realizing his dream of flying jumbo jets and his recent battle with tongue cancer. Bruce Dickinson is so much more than the frontman of one of the biggest bands on the planet. A rock icon, a true renaissance man, Bruce has been, and remains, a man of legend.”
Bruce said: “It was flattering to be approached to write a book about my experiences and it seems an appropriate time to do this.“
Publishing director Jack Fogg said: “There’s no one like Bruce. Which other rock musician can fly a 747, or fence at an international level? He’s a total one-off; engaging, funny, warm, self-deprecating – a British eccentric in its very best form. His book will be outstanding and I am so delighted we get to publish it and work with him.“
Anette Ekström, MD HarperCollins Nordic, said: “We are so very pleased to be the publishing house for this exciting book! The Nordic countries have a steady fan base for heavy metal, and IRON MAIDEN in particular. Our aim is to publish the memoir in all four Nordic languages, as close to the English release as possible as we understand the fans will be anxious for it.“
The first print-run of the U.K. hardback will have black sprayed-edges and will be available to pre-order ahead of publication.
The band posted the following updates some hours ago regarding the book:
Bruce seems to have written the book in seven A4 sized long notebooks, so fret not heavy metal and Maiden fans, there is a lot in store for you to read.
The pre-orders are already up. October 19th will see the “Human Siren’s” life story unveiled to metalheads all across the globe. Click HERE to pre-order ‘What Does This Button Do?‘.
