Metal and mainstream media don’t really have a good relationship do they? Well, I mean metal has featured a lot of time in the mainstream media, but we still don’t make the cut on the first priority. Among the media, the late night shows have been helping the sheeple get some dose of the unholy stuff. Today we bring to you that the two-time Grammy-winning thrash/metal legend SLAYER will make its 11:35PM late-night television debut on Thursday, July 27 when the band performs its iconic “Raining Blood” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”  The show airs at 11:35PM ET/PT and 10:35PM CT on NBC. “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has previously had many a metal and rock bands play, whether be it METALLICA rocking out with Jimmy involving an all kids instruments song, or BODY COUNT killing it with their groovy beats, or be it the metal gods, JUDAS PRIEST bringing the old school vibe to the late night show. This time though, its your own “SLAYAAAA..” as they plan to annihilate the show with their bloody song “Raining Blood“.

BODY COUNT Cover SLAYER’s “Raining Blood/Postmortem” In Their New Music Video!

Who doesn’t love SLAYER‘s ‘Raining Blood‘, one of the career defining and probably the most identified flagship SLAYER song, or maybe even the entire genre’s. Thrash metal has had some sort of weird love connection with rap, it all started when ANTHRAX did a collaboration with hip hop group PUBLIC ENEMY and thus kickstarted the rap metal wagon. Today after many years of their first coitus we see these two joining hands in another form. Hip hop legend, actor, vocalist and front man Ice T‘s band BODY COUNT has released yet another video from their all brand new album, ‘Bloodlust‘ and it is a rendition of SLAYER‘s ‘Raining Blood‘ with a twist as the song ends with the outro of ‘Postmortem‘. The BODY COUNT cover is known as ‘Raining In Blood/Postmortem‘. The song begins off with a short insight as Ice T explains why and how he formed the band when he saw kids mosh to hip hop songs and thought why not form a metal band by pulling in inspiration and influences from legendary acts like the BLACK SABBATHSUICIDAL TENDENCIES and SLAYER. Celebrate “International Day Of SLAYER” With Massive SLAYER Prize Package Contest

LEFT TO RIGHT: Paul Bostaph, Tom Araya, Gary Holt, Kerry King

International Day of Slayer, the annual heavy metal holiday that celebrates the uncompromising, loud and defiant music of the iconic thrash/punk/metal band SLAYER, is celebrating its 12th year today, 6/6/17.  IDoS is the day where you stage a “Slay-out, Slay-in, Slay-on, Slay-off” – don’t go to school, don’t go to work – but spend the day listening to Slayer at nuclear blast level in your car, your home, or in the public place of your choice. True Slayer devotees do NOT use headphones but crank the sound up as loud as possible so that everyone within earshot can hear SLAYER.

To celebrate this year’s IDoS, SiriusXM‘s Liquid Metal (Ch. 40) is playing SLAYER every hour from 12 Midnight ET 6/6 through to 3AM ET 6/7, and the channel’s Jose Mangin will be airing interviews with the band members.  SiriusXM is also hosting a special contest where one winner + a guest will receive round trip air transportation to Las Vegas for SLAYER‘s August 4 show, plus two nights at a Vegas hotel, two tickets to the show, a meet’n’greet with members of SLAYER and $200 ground transportation.  But this prize package just gets better:  the winner will also score his or her very own Tom Araya Signature Bass TA-204 FRX model, PLUS the brand new Kerry King B.C. Rich signature guitar, the KKW30 model, which is not yet available in stores. Mangin will be on hand in Las Vegas as the winner’s personal host/escort. Those interested in entering the contest should stay tuned to Liquid Metal, or can log onto www.slayer.net where all details will be posted shortly. Continue reading

Last week on Talk Toomey, our friend Josh Toomey had a chance to interview Battlecross guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala. Josh and Hiran discussed what it was like to be out on the road with Phil Anselmo of Superjoint, including a running joke of creating a A Flock of Seagulls cover band. They also talk about Slayer’s ‘Seasons in the Abyss’, GWAR, who they might cover next, and the future plans of Battlecross. You can stream the full interview below. Louder Than Life came back this year with such an amazing lineup. Last year had more of a southern rock feel and this year was so much heavier. Ranging from some older classic bands to some of music’s fastest up and comers the lineup was filled full talented bands of varying genres. Unfortunately, we can’t see every band, so if we didn’t mention someone here it’s simply that we had a conflicting schedule with their set. If only we could see every band it would be a perfect day. Columbus, Ohio: Slayer, Testament, Carcass @ Express Live!

slayer2

Slayer playing shows by themselves is more than enough to get metal heads out to a show. When you add Testament and Carcass to the bill that makes the tour a must see. Any of these 3 bands could headline a show or festival and draw a massive crowd. I knew we were in store for a massive turnout at Express Live in Columbus, Ohio. The first band of the night to take the stage was the Liverpool band Carcass. They quickly came out and got the crowd’s attention opening the show with their song “Unfit for Human Consumption”. When you are in the crowd it’s always great to catch a guitar pick, drum stick or really anything the band throws out at you. Bassist and singer Jeff Walker threw out more picks that night than I have ever seen anyone throw. The crowd kept growing and growing with each song Carcass played. By the time they were playing “Cadaver Pouch Conveyor System” there wasn’t even enough room to scratch your own ass. Carcass sounded flawless on stage. Note after note everything was perfection. It’s always amazing when the opening band is on stage and they blow you away. Carcass then played one of my favorite songs which is “Heartwork” the title track of their 1993 release. The song just has this fast paced shredding guitar riffs that flow into some slowed down groove section of the song makes you want to move around the mosh pit and tackle people. I am not the only person that feels this way, because during this song the pit was going absolutely insane. Continue reading
