An Interview With NEKROGOBLIKON Vocalist Nicky Calonne!

The hype man is alive and well in the metal community, and his name is John f**king Goblikon. If you aren’t listening to Los Angeles, California’s melodic death metal jesters NEKROGOBLIKON yet you are seriously missing out on one of the best acts to grace the stages of the United States.  Nicky “Scorpion” Calonne (Lead Vocals, Keyboard) Alex “Goldberg” Alereza (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Aaron “Raptor” Minich (Keyboard, Backing Vocals), Aaron “Zoot” VanZutphen. The Bucketlist With THE DARK

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

It’s Friday and is the start of another weekend, and what better way to pump up the weekend jolly mood by knowing your favourite artist’s favourite live artists. Yeah, more like “art-ception”. Anyways, welcome back to our regular segment of The Bucketlist where we shoot the simple but yet so tough question of “five favourite bands yet to check mark off their bucketlist”. Now when you think of it, this rather sounds like another “tell me about yourself” kinda slam book segment. Today we throw this million dollar question to alternative rock band THE DARK who are based out of Berlin, but having been originated in Los Angeles, CA in 2015.

THE DARK‘s music will remind you of bands like ‘THE KILLERS’, ‘WHITE STRIPES’, ‘FOO FIGHTERS’, ‘SHE WANTS REVENGE’. Their rhythmic section it’s formed by a big, heavy drums sound coming from the stoner school with sensuous bass lines performed with a total unforgiving punk attitude. High gain guitar riffs will introduce you to a wall of fuzz creating a perfect pad for Brandon’s gritty, melodic vocals that will get immediately stuck in your head.

Rusty Shipp is one of the most unique bands that you will ever hear. The band is based in the land locked city of Nashville, but they are a nautical rock band. Formed in 2014 the band has released ‘Mortal Ghost’ which was seen by many to be one of the top albums of 2017 and the band has much more to offer. They plan on releasing a few more singles prior to putting out another record. Once you hear the groove and intelligent lyrics that put in their songs you will instantly become a fan.

METALLICA Mixer Steve Thompson on ‘…And Justice For All’, “They Have No Desire To Remix It!”

Remember Steve Thompson? Yeah, the guy who handled mixing duties on METALLICA‘s ‘…And Justice For All?‘ and also the one, who often takes a beating when it comes to the mixing bass on that very record. We recently had the opportunity to talk to this record producer about “Appetite For Destruction“, “…And Justice For All?“, “Ugly“, “Bring the Noize” and Korn‘s “Follow The Leader.”

Steve Thompson is an American producer who is a very familiar face when it comes to handling duties or just in studio exercises. He boasts about having worked with bands of excellent repertoire, such as that of METALLICA, GUNS N’ ROSES, ANTHRAX, LIFE OF AGONY, KORN and many others through the years. He is also a seven  times Grammy winner and has worked on a lot of platinum, diamond and gold records.

Ryan Phillips (STORY OF THE YEAR) “I Didn’t Really Realize That We Were A Big Band Until We Weren’t.”

If you were alive and listening to music in the early 2000’s there’s a 98.9% chance that you have heard Story Of The Year played on the radio or you might have owned one of those old fashioned compact discs. Their mega hit single “Until The Day I Die” from their debut album ‘Page Avenue’ was released in 2003, It’s one of those songs that you can hear the first 5 seconds and you know immediately what song it is no matter how long it’s been since you heard it last. That album also heralded another massive single with “Anthem of Our Dying Day”. That album was one of the first post-hardcore albums to be certified Gold by the RIAA. Between the bands formation and 2011 they released 4 studio albums, toured the world and gained fans by the thousands. The members went on a hiatus and performed with and formed side projects some of which included Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, The Fuck Off And Dies, and Greek Fire. The band spent a few years apart and in 2013 reunited for a ‘Page Avenue’ 10th anniversary tour. In September of 2014 the band announced they were working on a fifth album. The album would be titled ‘Wolves’ and after seven years since their last album, Story Of The Year the post-hardcore four-piece from the Show Me State returned with a new single, “Bang Bang,” from ‘Wolves’, that dropped on December 8th. An Interview With Indian Brutal Death Metallers GUTSLIT [Video]

What do you expect from a band who’s got an atrocious name like that of GUTSLIT ? Well, nothing apart from brutal, grinding and heavy death metal. So heavy it could give Thor’s hammer a run for his money! So GUTSLIT are Asia’s one of the most crushing bands, coming out from Mumbai in India. They play a genre of metal where there is no respite from murder, torture and all kinds of vile imagery, the band is literally the sadistic embodiment of all things gore and nasty. Having formed way back in 2007, exactly a decade ago the band has been “pulverizing the masses”, as they like to state it out on their Facebook page. GUTSLIT play a blend of heavy, crushing and brutal version of death metal with surplus grind elements, they are merciless and ruthless in their live performances. While other pansy little bands boast and opines “there will be blood”, GUTSLIT is the band that will really make sure you return home with a chopped off leg and a botched body. Their sonic atrocity is unmatched and is arguably the best brutal death metal to have come out from this part of the world. The quartet has three records under their belt since the formation, a debut EP, first full length album, ‘Skewered In The Sewer‘ and their all new latest album which was released just two months back, ‘Amputheatre‘.

INTERVIEW: GOROD On Promoters, “We Learned New Ways How Shady Promoters Or Agents Act”

How about some technical death metal with a tinge of jazzy and funk influence? If this doesn’t entice your pleasures then I don’t know what will. GOROD is a tech death band hailing from Bordeaux, France formed back in 1997, but with a different name. The initial name with which the band started out was Gorgasm, and that soon changed to GOROD when they re-released their debut record ‘Neurotripsicks‘ under Willowtip Records(US) in 2005 with two new bonus tracks in it. The name change was primarily due to avoid confusion with another band of the same name back in Chicago, USA.

GOROD are one of the most technically proficient death metal bands out there and are the flag bearers of the extreme metal scene in France. The band’s music works on many levels and it truly showcases the incredible talent each member in the band possess. Their version of jazz oriented, progressive tech death has shot them to worldwide attention in the death metal community.Having played the Maryland Deathfest in the U.S., a couple of European runs over the years and six full lengths under their belt, GOROD isn’t shying away to make their filthy and heavy sound heard all across the globe.

Bobby Tongs (PANTERA Videographer) On Dimevision, “It’s Therapeutic”

I am sure you all have seen those crazy ass PANTERA home videos, where Dime and others in the band would do loads of silly stuff and make fun of each other, and it was hilarious and awesome for a normal fan to just be able to witness what actually happened in the PANTERA camp. Sometimes Dime would end up dead drunk in the videos pulling pranks on his band mates, Phil would join in on the fun and all that jazz. But you ever wondered who the man behind all these captured memories are? Sure, you’ve seen him a thousand times in interviews and on the internet. He is none other than the band’s official videographer and roadie Bobby Tongs. And yeah Bobby would not survive the Dime and Co.’s stupid pranks too!

INTERVIEW: Julien Truchan Of BENIGHTED [Video]

BENIGHTED is what you’d need if you’re looking for total carnage and ear splitting sonic atrocity. The French deathgrind band was formed back in 1998 in Saint-Étienne, and since then the band hasn’t looked back. With over eight heavy, grinding albums under their belt BENIGHTED keeps getting more dark, more terrifying and a chaotic frenzy of meticulously carved riffs that shatters anything hindering their way. The band was formed by the vocalist and front man Julien Truchan along with ex-guitarist Oliver Gabriel, who unfortunately quit the band due to hectic touring schedule and other personal reasons this year after 19 years in the band. Despite Julien being the sole original soldier in this battle tank, it definitely doesn’t seem like the tank is running out of gas.

Their most recent release, ‘Necrobreed‘ early this year has received widespread appreciation from fans of death metal and metal in general alike. Released under French label Season Of Mist, this is their eighth studio effort, and if you ask me, it is the most strongest record in their entire two decade long catalogue. With insane explosive drumming by none other than the drum god, Romain Goulon(ex-NECROPHAGIST), frenetic and brutal riffs by axe men Fabien Desgardiens, Emmanuel Dalle and Pierre Arnoux, and Julien’s terrifying vocals, ‘Necrobreed‘ surely stands a chance in your year end album list. Don’t forget to get the album and their merch HERE!
