*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the State of the month.”

This month’s State is Wyoming! (I’m a little late on last Mondays’ post.)

Demise of Sanity comes to from Cheyenne, Wyoming. While the band has more of a southern sound, and by southern I mean straight from the depths of hell. The band was formed in 2009 and has since released two full length albums and an EP. Their debut was titled “Falling Into Madness” and was unveiled in 2011. Next they released an EP titled “Towards the Guilded Edge” in 2013. The most recent release in February of this year was entitled “In the Midst of Stones and Fire”. They are signed to Bastard Giraffe Records. The band has elements of thrash and their sound as a whole is encased and surrounded with amazing riffs by axe man Dustin Clark. The riffs aren’t sporadic and they melt faces equally throughout the Equality State. Each song seems to really showcase something different about the band, and they build harmony very well between the music and the vocals throughout each and every song. The vocals help set the band apart, at times the clean’ish melodic singing style by Shawn Colvin brings this bluesy element into the mix. The blues and metal have always been close in relation and it helps the band have this refreshing sound that stands out in the crowd of bands flooding the market. They have released a video for a song on the newest album entitled ‘Escape From Tomorrow’. In this song the screaming parts of the vocals along with the guitar riffs and some funky bass lines make this song have an edge against the other tracks. The band has two upcoming dates in Cheyenne including one at Zombie Fest so make sure to get out there and check them out.

Make sure to follow Demise of Sanity on Facebook here.

Here is the video for ‘Escape From Tomorrow’.

Jason Shi

Jason Shi of ASG and Johnny Collins of Thunderlips have formed together an ass kicking duo and put out their debut album. If you haven’t heard of ASG or Thunderlips you can go ahead and crawl back under the rock you have been hiding under. The new self titled album was released on August 21st and is also on beautiful color vinyl via Seasons of Mist. They have a true rock sound that has really been absent in the music world for a while. Call it what you want, surf rock, desert rock, its just good music with great riffs that stick with you. We had the pleasure of speaking with Guitarist and Vocalist Jason Shi and asking him a few questions about what has been going on.  Continue reading

Unsigned Band Review: Destroythm’s Self Titled EP

destroyy

Have you ever wanted to hear the pure unfiltered sound of brutality? Well look no further. Destroythm brings it to your doorstep and crams it into your skull. The thundering drum beats and echoing guitar riffs are ecstasy to my ears. The new self-titled EP has 6 tracks for you to headbang to. The EP was released in July 2014 and how they have managed to go this long without being signed I will never know. I’m sure once their material starts to circulate they will have offers from various labels, as they have a sound that really has no competition to speak of. Continue reading

Interview with Josh Brown of Full Devil Jacket!

joshbrown

Full Devil Jacket have released one of the best comeback albums in the last decade titled “Valley of Bones”. Singer and lyricist Josh Brown also spent some time in the christian rock band Day of Fire, during the time FDJ was apart. While both bands are great we are very glad to have Full Devil Jacket back and making new music. Josh and drummer Keith Foster are the only two original members still in the band. FDJ has always been a lyrically driven band and that hasn’t changed after so much time apart. Many people, including myself credit Josh Brown’s lyrics as one of the main things that aided in getting through life’s struggles. The lyrics cast away the darkness that tries to surround us all. We had the opportunity to speak with Josh before they head out on their next tour. Continue reading

Review: Omega Diatribe “Abstract Ritual” [Stream]

Omega Diatribe

Omega Diatribe

First impressions can mean everything when you hear a band or a new album for the first time. Sometimes all it takes is a minute into track 1 and you have probably decided if the band or album is something you like. With bands like Omega Diatribe it doesn’t take a minute. You listen to the first 30 seconds and you will be saying to yourself “hell fucking yes”. The band was formed back in 2008 in Budapest, Hungary. They released a demo in 2012, and then followed it up with the full-length album “IAPETUS” a year later. They have now released an EP entitled “Abstract Ritual” in February of this year. It was released by Independent Ear Records. The band was formed by guitarist Gergo Hájer and bassist Ákos Szathmáry. The new EP features none other than Kevin Talley on drums. Kevin has played with some of the best bands in metal both as a studio and touring drummer. He has played with Daath, Six Feet Under, The Red Chord, Dying Fetus and many more. The band has since added a full time drummer to the band named Tommy Kiss who joined the band earlier this year. Omega Diatribe brings a lot to the table as a band, but everything is built around the groove and it gives the band a complex sound that helps fans stay interested and wanting more. Continue reading

Review: All Hell “The Red Sect” [New Song Streaming]

ALL HELL

ALL HELL

The band All Hell has gave me yet another reason to love the city of Ashville, North Carolina. They formed back in 2013 in Asheville and have quickly amassed fans from all over. The style of music they play sounds more European than from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Blackened Thrash is what they are. If there is any other bands out there claiming to be blackened thrash I can inform you now that they aren’t doing it nearly as good as these guys. With each chorus screamed and riff strummed my jaw drops a little more. The three piece band released their debut “The Devil’s Work”, in 2014. They wasted no time and are now about to drop the new album titled “The Red Sect” on October 16th. The album is being released by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. The sophomore album was mixed and mastered by none other than the thrash master Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust. I think Joel was able to add a little something extra to the album that no one else probably could have. How the band managed to play live shows, write, and record a new album this quickly after their debut is amazing in itself, but putting out an album of this quality is just unheard of. 40 Below Summer Release New Track “Mangina” [Now Streaming]

40belowsummmmmer

New Jersey natives 40 Below Summer released a new song off their upcoming album “Transmission Infrared”. The track entitled “Mangina” and will be on of the tracks on the new album that has a release date scheduled for October 16th. The band reformed in 2011 after initially breaking up in 2006. The last release was “Fire At Zero Gravity” back in 2013. With all the other nu-metal bands currently dominating the airwaves we expect this album to take off. The song sounds as you would expect any 40 Below Summer song to sound. It has aggressive and melodic parts which is what always made the band stand out. The band is just one of many 90’s and 2000’s nu-metal bands re-emerging with new releases. The band is playing some East Coast shows leading up to an album pre-release show on October 10th at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey.

Interview: Pissing Razors Guitarist Mathew Lynch!

Mathew Lynch

Mathew Lynch

The band Pissing Razors is the biggest name in metal in El Paso, Texas, but their name is known much further than the Lone Star State. The band was formed in 1996 and three of the founding members are in the current line up. Eddy Garcia on drums, Mathew Lynch on guitar and Joe Rodriguez on vocals. No one has come close to creating a sound anything similar to Pissing Razor, and they likely never will. The band has this brand of music they refer to as “Psycho Punko Groove Metal” and that really is the perfect name for it. They can’t fit into a genre because the music they make is always evolving and has completely different influences from track to track. Even though they can’t be pigeon holed into a genre they have still managed to create this signature sound they call their own. Often you would hear the band heralded as the closest thing to Pantera or that the two bands sound very similar. Those are some very big shoes to fill, but the band has ran with it and managed to be some of the most humble musicians I’ve had the chance to meet. When I seen them in Nashville, Tennessee on the Revolution Tour in 2004 and each member took the time to speak to every fan there. The band has been on a hiatus since 2004 and have just reformed in the last year. We are very pleased to know they are back and spreading their infectious groove to the masses from stages all over the country. Can’t wait to see them live again, it’s been far too long.

Review: Murashita “Inescapable Damnation”

Murashita

Masaki Murashita

You may have heard the name Masaki Murashita. He is a renowned guitarist and producer and also the voice of the thrash band Hemoptysis. He is now launching his solo project simply titled Murashita. As a fan of Hemoptysis I have very high expectations for this new side project of Masaki’s. The debut EP titled “Inescapable Damnation” is being released on October 16th. Many bands have lately been self-releasing their albums and this is another one that can be added to that list. This EP also features a slew of legendary musicians like David Ellefson (Megadeth), Kevin Talley (Suffocation, Six Feet Under, Chimaira), Kelly Conlon (Death, Monstrosity) and Rodney McGlothlin (Voice of Dissent). Those names should have your attention if it didn’t already. Continue reading

Pig Champion!

PC

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the state of the month*

This month’s state is Illinois!

You ever heard a band for the first time and it gets you so pumped you just want to jump up and down and smack the shit out of someone? Please make sure your mother isn’t sitting in the room with you and I will introduce you to Pig Champion. The Chicago based crossover band has been tearing up the scene since 2010. The band has released two albums. In May of 2010 they released the debut “Oppression Breeds Violence” which I may add has some amazing cover art. That album has 13 tracks that length wise are more to the punk side of crossover. Most of the tracks average around 1 minute, except for a few standouts like “Apologies” and “I Do The Work” and the almost 4 minute brutal attack of “Bone In The Throat” before the Nixon resignation speech takes over the rest of the 20 minute track.
