In this installment of State Of The Art over here at Metal Nexus, we’re gonna be analyzing some of the top underground Metal acts from the great state of Iowa! Famous for having some of the most vast farmland in the USA, and the home of some household Metal names like Slipknot and Stone Sour, what seems to be a very rural part of our country is also home to a very strong and sturdy underground Metal scene. This month we will be giving you all a look at Green Death, an up and coming thrash outfit from Des Moines.

Providing us with music from EMP Label Group, Dan by Dave Ellefson, these young guys have already shared the stage with the likes of Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Trivium, Suicidal Tendencies, and many many more. Having charted across Amazon and iTunes, there’s no surprise as to why this outfit are growing as quickly as they are. The quartet consists of guitarist Mark Reinking, vocalist Sol Bales, drummer Ryan Berrier, and bassist Parker Willis.

We have been hearing about the upcoming MEGADETH record, that is the follow up to 2016’s grammy winning ‘Dystopia‘, ever since Dave Mustaine confirmed Guitar World that the new album is dropping in 2019, “absolutely. For sure“. So, guess we aren’t too far away from witnessing the 16th studio album from the thrash titans. All of this is turning out to be even more truer as Dave Mustaine yesterday teased us a small snippet of Dirk Verbeuren practicing his parts for an unnamed song, which is most likely to be included in the upcoming album. The video shared on Dave’s twitter account was captioned as, “The Cheshire Cat is smiling! Enjoy a lil tease. @Megadeth⁩ ⁦@VerbeurenDirk⁩ #Album16″ The sessions are being co-produced by Chris Rakestraw, who previously worked on 2016’s “Dystopia” disc.”

Hark all ye thrashers! The boys from SKELETONWITCH are back, and have put out a brand new song, “Fen Of Shadows” from their all new, upcoming sixth studio full length, ‘Devouring Radiant Light‘. The brand new album will be out by July 20th, via Prosthetic Records this summer. So be prepared for a fast, technical and murky summer, all thanks to our boys from Athens, Ohio.

“Fen Of Shadows” is SKELETONWITCH at it’s best and a true embodiment of what their music feels and holds. It can’t get any better than this. The riffs are catchy, thrash to it’s core, with lots of subtle black metal vibe. And at the same time, it is diverse and has a lot of other exciting stuff going on with it. The song has a brooding and post-metal sort of aura, where it takes you by your neck, but it’s a good feeling, like the one you feel when you walk amidst a misty, cold, dark and windy forest at the dawning of dusk. The tremolo induced shrills and wails will give you the goosebumps that is so inevitable on this track. Vocals are ear piercing and a total blistering force to reckon with, a force equally as fatal as the lightning fast riffing and terror inducing, relentless drumming. Continue reading →

Last year, Bay Area thrash vets TRAUMA announced their long-awaited comeback and new member additions. In advance of finishing their upcoming third album, TRAUMA are set to hit the road on a brief headline tour beginning April 13 in Cool, CA. Additional east coast and mid-western dates have also been added.

TRAUMA was born in California’s Bay Area in 1980, a crucial year for metal music. It was within that fertile musical climate that TRAUMA developed a sound evoking the electric energy in the air around them. Donny Hillier consumed a steady diet of LED ZEPPELIN and BLACK SABBATH and shared a love of JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN with original guitarist Mike Overton. And of course there was TRAUMA’s legendary early bassist, Cliff Burton.
