One of the benefits about less bands at Chicago Open Air this year was being able to sleep in before leaving on the second day. Since there were less bands this year, the event didn’t kick off until 2:30, instead of noon like past years. At the same time, it was strange heading in there for day two knowing that we had already arrived to the last day of the fest when it would’ve normally not even been the halfway mark of the festival yet. With that said though, we couldn’t wait to get out and catch seven fantastic sets from Alien Weaponry, The Black Dahlia Murder, Fever 333, In This Moment, Gojira, The Cult, and the legendary Tool. Swedish extreme metal innovators Meshuggah treated U.S. fans to a surprise when they announced they would hit the spring U.S. festival circuit and sprinkle in a handful of select cities across the states in between. In addition to Welcome to Rockville, the Epicenter Festival, the Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival, and the Chicago Open Air Festival, Meshuggah chose to destroy six other lucky cities as they traversed the southern and northeastern states before heading to Europe this summer. Joining them on these select dates were Detroit, MI death metal veterans The Black Dahlia Murder. Continue reading →
Transcontinental black/death metal band Hiss From The Moat have released a lyric video for their new track, “The Harrier”. This international powerhouse was founded by James Payne (Vital Remains, Hour of Penance) with Italian friends bassist/vocalist Carlo Cremascoli and guitarist Giacomo “Jack” Poli. In 2009 the three-piece released their debut EP The Carved Flesh Message. Sharing the stage with acts such as Psycroptic, Skeletonwitch and The Black Dahlia Murder they took their project to as many audiences as possible. Four years later they released their debut full-length Misanthropy via Lacerated Enemy/Nuclear Blast. During this period Payne left Italian death metal band Vital Remains to work full time on Hiss From The Moat. Taking their blended sound of black and death metal the band toured Europe and Asia with acts such as Behemoth, Belphegor and Rotting Christ. The band then brought on guitarist/vocalist Max Cirelli. THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER just a day ago released their all new music video for the title track from the upcoming eighth full length ‘Nightbringers‘, which you can check it out HERE! Now, they are back with another update and this time it is about a massive North American trek with fellow death metallers SUFFOCATION, DECREPIT BIRTH, NECROT and WORMWITCH. This October/November THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER will go out on this headlining tour in support of their all new album ‘Nightbringers‘ coming out via Metal Blade Records on October 6th, this year. Starting the tour off on Rochester, NY on the 6th of October, the tour will encompass major North American cities like New York, Baltimore, Las Vegas, Toronto, Ottawa including many others spanning just over a month. This is a must attend tour for every extreme metal fan alike. Check out the tour dates below and all the details regarding the same!
From releasing their first album in 2003, they have come a long way in a very short amount of time. Carrying forward the aggressiveness and brutality along with the emotion filled music, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER are all set to release their new album, ‘Nightbringers‘, via Metal Blade Records on October 6th, this year. ‘Nightbringers‘ will be the eighth full length album the band will offer after 2015’s equally hard hitting ‘Abysmal‘. To celebrate the new album, the band have already put out a new music video which is for the title track. You can check the video at the bottom.
The members recorded their own part in the album independently by splitting up, which helped bring out the best in the individuals. With former bassist Ryan Williams once again assisting, the drums were tracked at The Pipe Yard in Plymouth, Michigan and rhythm guitars and bass in the band’s practice space in Warren, Michigan. Ellis then recorded his many mind boggling solos in his home studio, while Strnad opted to record at his home in Auburn Hills, Michigan with Joe Cincotta (SUFFOCATION, INTERNAL BLEEDING) of Full Force Studios overseeing his sessions. The ghoulish cover art was the brainchild of Kristian Wahlin, aka Necrolord, who has designed seminal artwork for the likes of AT THE GATES, BATHORY, EMPEROR and also TBDM‘s 2007 release, ‘Nocturnal‘. “I think he’s the most prominent artist when it comes to classic releases in the melodic death metal genre, and kind of bringing things full circle with it being the ten-year anniversary of ‘Nocturnal’ felt right. By now people probably wouldn’t have expected us to go back to him, so it’s kind of a surprise, but at the same time it’s a very classic cover too.“, Strnad speaks.
It appears that the rumors from early this morning are true. Ozzfest Meets Knotfest is absolutely stacked this year! The festival went extremely heavy this year booking acts such as Possessed, The Black Dahlia Murder, Goatwhore, Decrepit Birth, Code Orange, and many more incredible acts. This will be the festival’s second year taking place at Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California. 2016 was a very successful year with over 75,000 in attendance for Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Megadeth, Slayer, and more. This year the festival falls in early November on the 4th and 5th, tickets can be purchased here when they go on sale this Friday on July 14th. Here’s what Ozzy and Sharon have to say about this year:
OZZY OSBOURNE: “Last year’s show with Black Sabbath was just incredible and I’m thrilled to be coming back this year with Zakk, Tommy, Blasko and Adam to headline the 21st anniversary of Ozzfest.”
SHARON OSBOURNE: “Ozzfest Meets Knotfest is coming back for another round. Last year we had over 75,000 people attend and we have another great lineup this year with Ozzy’s first solo show in L.A. in more than six years. This is not just another show…it’s Ozzfest Meets Knotfest! And this year’s event means the world to me as we’ll be amongst friends like Prophets of Rage, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Marilyn Manson and Stone Sour…it’s going to be another amazing weekend.”
