What do you get when you take a primarily one-man musical project from Columbus, Ohio and mix it with a two-man musical project from Malaysia? You get six songs of pure badassery from the freshly issued “Taurean” split EP from the Buckeye State’s THAL (The Heathens Are Loose) and the weed worshiping Hashishian of course! Only THAL‘s Vince Green (John Walker) is joined by his wytCHord bandmate, Kevin Hartnell, for some help with the drums and guitars on this new material. Meanwhile, Hashishian is working within its own two man configuration for their contribution here as well so let’s jump into it, shall we? Continue reading

VINCE GREEN

Columbus, Ohio’s THAL (The Heathens Are Loose) recently released its full-length debut album “Glitter” which is finding immense favor with fans and critics alike around the globe while selling out nearly everywhere it is offered. I myself reviewed this amazing record recently and you can check out my take on it here.
The somewhat ironic fact of the matter here is that THAL is not a band by any means or stretch of ones imagination, in fact, it is all FROM one man’s imagination! Thankfully that man has some incredible talent at songwriting, instrumentation, and working some wonderful wizardry in the studio. His name is Vince Green and under the identity of THAL he has released a string of Singles and while those songs themselves were amazing tracks individually, the collective body of work on “Glitter” is just jaw-droppingly astounding in and of itself. It also shows what massive possibilities and promise exists with Vince himself and perhaps even within a band setting should he choose to take THAL upon that path and guess what? I specifically inquire of him about that and much more in our recent Interview exchange so with that in mind, settle in for a few and get informed about The Heathens Are Loose and the wizard behind the THAL curtain, Vince Green.

THAL LP

Columbus, Ohio’s THAL (The Heathens Are Loose) released their official debut full-length “Glitter” on April Fools Day but there is very little levity on this complexly heavy adaptation of modern Fuzz/Stoner Rock circa 2016. Dense, leaden thick-as-molasses riffs, grooving rhythms, combustible drumming..it all finds it place on this incredible album. The vocals are one of the re-occurring highlights of this record too and will leave the listener in silenced amazement once everything heard has sunken in and taken root. That is exactly what happened to me when I first heard a compiling of various Singles and a two-tracker from the band, utter jaw-dropping amazement as their music just really landed well with me. “Glitter” is no exception either, each song is just bad-ass and overflowing with all of the elements that are regularly attributed to Heavy Stoner, Fuzz, and even some Desert Rock. Evidently all of this is pretty much the work of one man, John “Vince Green” Walker, and a couple of minor contributors, David Jones and Heidi. Continue reading
