* For the Metal Nexus’ Bucket List series, we pose the age-old question to some of your favorite artists: “Before you die, which band(s) would you want to see play live that you haven’t seen before, and why do they mean so much to you?” *
This week, we focus on Orlando, Florida’s art metal mavens, Meka Nism. The quintet consisting of Meka (vocals), Bobby Keller (lead guitar), Jarret Robinson (bass), Christopher Lane (drums), and Jay Adkisson (keys) have made quite a name for themselves in the metal world through their uniquely eclectic, genre-melding sound. Influences swirling throughout their music include everything from opera, to rock, to nu-metal, to black metal, and beyond. It’s no wonder that we see such a wide array of musical styles pop up on each band member’s bucket list. Continue reading →
Macedonia? Anyone? Betcha didn’t know any bands from the land of the great Alexander from Macedon! Alright let me do the honours of shedding some light on you in introducing one of the most creative and intriguing bands from Europe. Headbangers! introducing the ever so vibrant, and one of my all time favourites, ethno progressive(yeah, this too!) band CHROMATIC POINT,from the Balkan land of Macedonia(FYROM). “Chromatic” as they sound both musically and visually, the band incorporates every sense of the word and just goes on to show the frantic and seemingly chaotic nature of it’s sonic virtuosity. Just like the rapidly changing “flight of the bumblebee”. See what I did there? Yup, that was your daily dose of classical music puns!
All right let’s stop beating around the bush and get to the point. So, this Balkan progressive powerhouse has just unleashed their brand new music video, “Clockwork” today, which the band says has been taken off their “next studio material“. Let’s get dissecting the new chops!
Today, rock quintet GOOD TIGER is thrilled to share their brand new video, “Grip Shoes“, which can be viewed now, below. The track comes from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, “We Will All Be Gone“, which is set to be released on February 9th via Metal Blade Records. Pre-orders are available now HERE!
On the new track, vocalist Elliot Coleman shares: “‘Grip Shoes’ tells the tale of wasted potential; I’m sure we all find times in our life that are trivial, and not spent capitalizing on every moment. I’m very excited to share another track from our album, especially ‘Grip Shoes,’ as it’s one of my favourites.”
Maynard James Keenan’s TOOL may have been in a deep slumber for now about an entire decade, but fret not. His other project, A PERFECT CIRCLE have released the new song, “The Doomed”. The track is the first music to be heard from the multi-platinum outfit’s highly anticipated 2018 full-length.
“Fourteen years have passed since we released eMOTIVe,” said Maynard James Keenan. “A new release is long overdue. In light of this current difficult and polarized social, spiritual and political climate, we artist types need to open our big mouths and share the light a little louder.”
“Years of life experience has brought our music to this moment,” added Billy Howerdel. “We know where we came from. Deeply connected to the path we’re on.”
STEVEN WILSON who is considered to be one the revered 21st century progressive rock musicians and composer, is widely acclaimed for his solo work, PORCUPINE TREE, and helping produce many albums of fellow rock artists. In a recent interview conducted by Alternative Nation, the versatile artist spoke about how the hip hop and R&B industry and its artist are more on the fore front when it comes to innovation and diversity. He says rock music has becomes more conservative. Read WILSON‘s interesting statement below :
British progressive mastermind and front man of psychedelic rock band PORCUPINE TREE, STEVEN WILSON a couple of days ago did a live Q&A on his official Facebook page. Spanning close to 38 minutes, he was asked various questions by his fans online. One of them was on why he chose to be a vegetarian, to which he has some pretty strong words as follows.
NOTHING MORE is an American rock/metal band from the state of Texas formed in 2003. The ensemble has released six studio albums to date, including their self-titled album released in 2014. After the recent hit of their self-titled album, they are back with another studio album, ‘The Stories We Tell Ourselves‘, set for release on September 15 via Better Noise Records. With just two months to go for the album release NOTHING MORE have already been premiering their new music video from the song, ‘Go To War‘ off their forthcoming new album. Directed by Wayne Isham, the video evokes the burning aggression of the track’s lyrics through a passionate bar fight between two lovers.
LA rock supergroup, A PERFECT CIRCLEformed in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan have been touring, even though it’s been well over a decade since their last studio album in 2004. Which has kinda left them pretty active and not just another dead beat band. So, A PERFECT CIRCLE, who recently wrapped up a sold out U.S. tour, return to the road this fall, kicking off a North American trek at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento on Oct. 21. It shrouds several N. American cities over from late October to early December.
The band’s spring outing, their first U.S. tour in six years, began with a three-night stand at The Pearl in Las Vegas. “It was as if they never left, both in terms of the sharpness of their performance and the contemporary relevancy… of their catalog,” said the Las Vegas Review Journal in their review of the opening evening. As the band worked their way through the month of U.S. dates, Keenan dubbed the outing the “get to know ya/re-get to know ya” tour, a nod to the band’s hiatus and news of their forthcoming album. A PERFECT CIRCLE headlined Welcome to Rockville, Fort Rock and Carolina Rebellion before concluding the tour with an “enthralling” (Orange County Register), “rapturous” (Buzzbands) sold out, debut performance at the Hollywood Bowl. *This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*
This month’s State is New York!
Hailing from Long Island, Moon Tooth took the local scene by storm when they formed in 2012. The band has been gaining a ton of national attention in the last two years since putting out their debut EP and first full length LP. The talent of the group has took them across North America with the likes of Intronaut, Entheos, Astronoid, Thank You Scientist, and Toothgrinder. They’ve even opened up for Killswitch Engage, and next month they will open for New York’s own, Candiria. Moon Tooth takes an eclectic amount of inspiration that you will hear in their music and it stands out. They blend in several different sounds but like to be referred to “aggressive progressive”. The four piece creates a chaotic sound that will please fans across different genres. Their unique style of progressive, blues, rock n roll, and just about any subgenre you can think of, provides something to like for any fan of music. Continue reading →
