Album Review: OVERKILL – ‘Live In Overhausen’ (Nuclear Blast)

OVERKILL are a legendary thrash metal band, formed in 1980 in New Jersey. They have gone through many line-up changes, leaving bassist D. D. Verni and lead vocalist Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth as the only constant members. OVERKILL‘s current lineup also includes Dave Linsk on lead guitar, Derek Tailer on rhythm guitar and Jason Bittner on drums.

The band are masters of the crunchy thrash that the 1980’s spawned.  They eat and drink metal music and Blitz is a renowned singer within the genre, being one of the godfathers of thrash, along with James Hetfield of METALLICA and Chuck Billy of TESTAMENT.  They have a significant library of studio albums (nineteen in total), including the stone cold classics ‘Under The Influence’ (1988) and ‘Horrorscope’ (1999). SABATON, KREATOR & CYHRA Dominate Silver Spring, MD [Review & Photo Gallery]

Kreator

Sabaton, Kreator and Cyhra recently kicked off their North American tour and finally it reached the Washington DC/Baltimore area last Wednesday night.  This show in Silver Spring was one of the last ones of the North American tour, the wait was grueling. This is a tour I have been waiting to cover for a while, firstly because I am a huge fan of both bands, and secondly Sabaton is a great band to photograph.  I haven’t attended any show since Trans Siberian Orchestra in November, so I was extremely excited to be surrounded by metal heads. Let me dive into the review now, you can check out the photo gallery at the bottom of the page.

Review: MACHINE HEAD – ‘Catharsis’ [Official Video + Track Stream]

Throughout their 24 year career, the modern metal colossus that is Machine Head have seen their fair amount of love, hate and skepticism. A band who change with the times, not necessarily with the trends, they have shown especially interesting senses of progression most recently through adding string sections, choral chants and a bigger sense of scope to their crushing brand of metal. Fans have been kept on their toes in other words and the Machine Head brand is not easily painted into a corner. So when the band’s new record, ‘Catharsis’, was unveiled and its mission statement was to be a major statement for rock & metal music in 2018, one can’t help but let curiosity take over and see what the Cali boys have concocted this time. ‘Catharsis’ was recorded with Zack Ohren (Fallujah, All Shall Perish) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California and will be released via Nuclear Blast on January 26th, 2018.

TAX THE HEAT Unveil New Single “Money In The Bank” Ahead Of Second Studio Album – Preorders Live Today! [Official Video Stream]

“We are extremely excited to unveil the first single from our new album. ‘Money In The Bank’ combines key elements of what we do best: big riffs, big choruses and filthy guitars. We believe that an album should be seen as a snapshot in time of an artist or band, this album has captured us at a particularly exciting moment.” – Alex Veale

Modern British rockers Tax The Heat have unveiled their first single “Money In The Bank” ahead of their forthcoming second studio album ‘Change Your Position’. The record is scheduled for release on 9th March 2018 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment and is available to pre-order today! It will be available on CD, Digitally, Limited Edition Gatefold Vinyl and Limited Edition Light Blue Vinyl. Order your copy here and purchase the teaser single “Money In The Bank” here, and catch them live on the final few dates of their UK tour with Black Star Riders!

Inspired by classic 60’s rock n’ roll, Tax The Heats sound harks back to the days of the greats such as The Beatles, The Who and The Kinks whilst remaining equally comparable to modern to contemporary artists such as Queens Of The Stone Age, Jack White and The Black Keys. “Money In The Bank” bridges the gap between old and new and reinvigorates the unrivaled classic sound with a modern alternative twist. As guitarist/vocalist Alex Veale says We love the energy of those ’60s bands. Maximum R&B – that’s the basis for TAX THE HEAT. But we’re taking it somewhere else…creating something that has that raw energy but is also original.” From humble beginnings in 2015, Tax The Heat have become one of the most notable of new British rock acts. Singles taken from debut album ‘Fed To The Lions’ (2016) picked up airplay on Kerrang! Radio, Planet Rock and BBC Introducing. The band also honed their live craft supporting the likes of Cadillac 3, Reef, The Graveltones, Black Star Riders, Masters Of Reality, Virginmarys and Thunder, and festival appearances such as 2000 Trees, Download, Calling and Ramblin’ Man Fair Continue reading

Ice Age’s “Breaking the Ice”: Debut, 30 Years in the Making

Ice Age is:

Sabrina Kihlstrand – Lead vocals

Linnea Landstedt – Guitars

Viktoria Larsson – Bass

Andre Holmqvist – Drums

Remember that Big 4 show (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax) back in the day in Sweden where the show was dedicated to a band called Ice Age? I do and vaguely recall looking the band up, only to find a few songs floating around with a few demo bootlegs available. I dug them, but didn’t expend too much more effort once I heard the limited amount of what was available here in the US. Since then, the name has come up in passing a few times in the “whatever happened to…” context and I always wondered myself. Surprise! They’re back, and with a damned vengeance…
