An Interview With Indian Thrashers CARNAGE INC.

Even after three decades of what spawned as thrash metal in the suburbs of Bay Area, by sweaty, long haired dudes with an unforgiving punk attitude, it is overwhelming that thrash metal has survived every obstacle in its way. Likewise, the seismic waves of thrash metal have ever since traveled far and beyond continents. Similarly, from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps, emerges a thrash squad who are adamant on not putting their foot off the throttle. CARNAGE INC. from Mumbai, India are taking forward the baton of Bay Area thrash metal and spreading the “carnage”!

CARNAGE INC. came into existence back in 2011. Hailing from the city of Mumbai, they are adding a new flavour and aggression to what we all dearly call thrash metal. Having shared the same passion for METALLICA, front man Varun and ex-drummer Olav thought, why not materialize this passion into something even bigger. And thus CARNAGE INC. saw the light of the day. Into their sixth year of existence, the band has released an EP, titled, ‘Fury Incarnate‘ through Indian label Transcending Obscurity last year’s summer. The debut EP has received a lot of deserved attention and has put them on the board of country’s rising bands. Fast riffing, lightning speed drumming, groove that will knock your heads off and rashy, pissed off vocals are what CARNAGE INC. offers to the listener for an aural assault.

We recently had a chat with the boys and this is what went down. Take a look below for the interview. Oh and while you’re at it, since Christmas is coming soon, remember to add THIS to your festive melodies!

Terry Corso Of ALIEN ANT FARM On MTV Reviving TRL “Bring A Little Bit Of Music Back Into An Organization That Has Music In The Title”

Photo Credit: Jessica Stacy / Metal Nexus

If you lived through any portion of the early 2000’s it’s likely you’ve heard and sang along to Alien Ant Farm’s cover of the classic Micheal Jackson hit “Smooth Criminal” or their original track “Movies” both from the album ‘ANThology‘ which sold over 1 million copies. The band has released 3 albums since their major hit record including ‘Truant’ in 2003, ‘Up In The Attic’ in 2006, and their most recent ‘Always And Forever’ in 2015. Lately the band has been touring with P.O.D., Powerflo and Fire From The Gods, bringing a bit of nostalgia to the touring lineup. Continue reading

An Interview With Indian Death Metal Outfit DARKRYPT

From the western most corner of India, there spawns an unheralded force of dark, fast and intense death metal quartet that goes by the name of DARKRYPT, who are currently one among the rising forces when it comes to death metal in this part of the world. They formed back in 2013, with the vision of bassist Amey Bhole and Nachiket Bhave on guitars. After being around for a while with no output, Aumkar Lele and Rishabh Ravi joined in on drums and guitars respectively for the first complete and firm line up. Early 2014 saw Mihir Gaikwad joining the band on guitars but only for playing gigs. After a year in late 2015, Nachiket quit the band, and Mihir replaced the former axe-man’s boots as a permanent member from there on.

DARKRYPT are a fairly new band but they are absolutely killing it already. With their debut LP Delirious Excursion already out one year back via Indian label Transcending ObscurityDARKRYPT are already making a statement despite being this young in the circuit. Check out their debut LP provided at the end of the interview. Pssht! They have robed in Rogga Johansson of PAGANIZER and thus successfully creating a track where he has lend his fierce vocals. That is the cherry on top of the cake for sure. You really know what to expect when the mixing has been done by Greg Chandler at Priory Recording Studios (CRUCIAMENTUM, CHTHE’ILIST, etc.) and mastering by the legend Dan Swano at Unisound Studios (ASPHYX, BLOODBATH, etc). Fast riffs, relentless and insane drumming, swift tempo changes and brutal gutturals straight from the bellowed depths of hell is what DARKRYPT stands for. We had the pleasure of having them for a short interview, as we talked about their new album, the upcoming Durance of Hate India Tour and a lot more. Check it out below,

DROWNING POOL Vocalist Jasen Moreno Says He Used To Help Sell Merch For Them When They Played Local Gigs Together [Audio Interview]

It’s hard to believe that DROWNING POOL vocalist JASEN MORENO is already 5 years into his tenure with the group. Jasen spent some time with METAL NEXUS at the ‘BLUE RIDGE ROCK FESTIVAL’ in Lynchburg, VA and he had a lot to talk about.  We discussed the ‘MAKE AMERICA ROCK AGAIN’ tour that DROWING POOL is currently in the middle of along with SCOTT STAPP of CREED, SICK PUPPIES, TRAPT and more.  Jasen also spoke about his long history with DROWNING POOL before he even joined the band.  He spoke candidly about how they played local gigs together in Texas before they hit the national scene.  He even went on to say that on occasion he would help watch their merch table for them.   Continue reading

An Interview With Sahil ‘DEMONSTEALER’ Makhija Of DEMONIC RESURRECTION [Video]

Sahil ‘Demonstealer’ Makhija

I recently caught up with Sahil Makhija at AntiSocial, New Delhi, India, also known better as DEMONSTEALER who is the front man of the blackened death metal band from the sea side city, Mumbai in India, DEMONIC RESURRECTION. If you have not heard DEMONIC RESURRECTION yet, you’re clearly blaspheming ! Just kidding, you’re missing out on a lot though to be honest. So the band has been around for a good number of years now, starting out as teenagers back in the day in the year 2000, and they have since then put up a decent catalog of five albums and two EPs all this while, which is incredible in itself. They have really pinned India on the global metal map and are rightly called the ‘flag bearers of Indian metal’. They have also done shows in reputed European festivals like Wacken Open Air in Germany, Bloodstock Festival in the U.K., and the beautiful MetalDays festival in Slovenia etc. They also have a Metal Hammer Golden God award under their belt. It all began with their debut album titled, ‘Demonstealer’ in 2000 and since then you can actually see they have not only been a dynamic outfit but also a reckoning force in the underground scene and also in the domestic scene in India.

Interview With AJ Channing Of FIRE FROM THE GODS! [Video]

FIRE FROM THE GODS are truly hitting the ground running. Some are compelled to put a label on the band and often it doesn’t fit their unique sound. Rap metal, nu metal, hardcore, or a combination of all of the above still doesn’t define this undefinable band. The quintet’s unique approach to music delivers a familiar but original sound. Calling Austin, Texas home, the band has set out to bring a bigger, more important message to metal that they feel has been lacking. Lead vocalist AJ Channer had this to say about the upcoming record: Continue reading

The Bucketlist With Dylan And Steve Of I Prevail! [Video]

I PREVAIL has been taking over stages all across the country since their cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” went viral. That certainly isn’t the only thing the band has up their sleep either. Prior to the release of ‘Lifelines on October 21st, 2016 via Fearless Records the band released 3 incredible singles. “Scars”, “Stuck In Your Head” and the incredibly heavy track “Come And Get It”. Prior to that album releasing the band also got the news that their cover of “Blank Space” went gold. The band really has been able to showcase the power of the single, and have more original music as well to back it up. Since the release of the album the band has been on tour with Islander, Wage War, and also had a headlining tour supported by Starset, Vamps, and As Lions. After closing out the festival season last year at Louisville, Kentucky’s Louder Than Life Festival we was able to catch them early on the festival circuit this year at Carolina Rebellion. Again they shared the stage with numerous legendary acts like In Flames, Sum 41, Def Leppard, Rivals Sons and Dillinger Escape Plan. It’s easy to see that I Prevail get the opportunity to enjoy a wide array of bands while they are on tour across the globe. Continue reading

A Little Q and A To Metal Up Your Day [Interview With ACID DEATH!]

Acid Death, Live in Germany. (Photo credit unknown)

About a month ago, I wrote a little piece for Metal Nexus in regards to the unearthing of the long lost debut album of Grecian prog/tech metal innovators, Acid Death.  (Click here to check it out if you’re so inclined.)  Not long after the publication of that article, I was in contact with Savvas Bettinis (vox and bassist for AD) about a possible interview with the band and after consideration, we decided on a more Q & A style due to differences in scheduling and time zones.  What follows is the results of that exchange, Continue reading

We had the opportunity to speak with Clutch guitarist Tim Sult on October 2nd during their tour stop at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Kentucky. Clutch has now been together and kicking ass for over 25 years. They continue to put out one great album after another and keep fans craving more. Music industry veterans have referred to Clutch as one of the hardest working bands in the business. We spoke to Tim about the bands chemistry for success, opening up for Clutch as the instrumental band The Bakerton Group, their selection process and past producers and even briefly spoke about corn dogs. The band is touring in support of their most recent release “Psychic Warfare” and if you haven’t picked up the album I suggest you do so now! Continue reading
