State Of The Art: BREEDING FILTH [Album Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state.*

This month’s state is Indiana!

Welcome back to another edition of State of the Art and today I go full tech death on you all. In a world where repetitive music is the orgasm for the masses, technical death metal turns that around viciously and sets an extreme example of high end, ground breaking musical dexterity. Taking on the same spirit and motive from Lafayette, Indiana, ruthless, brutal tech death group BREEDING FILTH, are our State Of The Art band this week. Formed in 2014, this ferocious quartet reek of intense and pretty technical riffs, pummeling drumming, low end thundering bass and nasty, dirty guttural vocals. All of these work in unison to produce the beast that BREEDING FILTH truly embodies, which has helped the band in reaching out to the masses and perform with big shots in a very short amount of time. Marching ahead with big strides this band is definitely the torch bearer of the Indiana underground death metal scene.

State Of The Art: Indiana’s THE IRON GATES [EP Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state.*

This month’s state is Indiana!

It’s 2018 and yes, metalcore is still strong. The Iron Gates from Indianapolis, Indiana dropped their debut EP this past February and celebrated by playing with Darkest Hour. “The Story Thus Far” is a four song powerhouse that is reminiscent of the wonderful mid-2000’s east coast metal and hardcore crossover.

The Iron Gates formed in 2009, and their sound strongly reflects that; a statement given with respect, as the pinnacle of modern metalcore was among those surrounding years. Nailed by blast beats from drummer, Erik Flaskerud, and a taste of melodic European death metal and power metal riffs, the listener is quickly flooded with memories of perfected Shadows Fall licks and God Forbid-style uninhibited vocals by Dustin Savage. Early As I Lay Dying is channeled in track three, “The Huntress,” with a riff that drives the entirety of the song and a chorus doesn’t need clean vocals to be catchy. Guitar duo, Matt Strakis and Brian Nichols sound like they should be on the cover of Guitar World… tomorrow! The low end is incredibly tight and clean, courtesy of bassist, Brandon Lytle. State Of The Art: LAVABORNE [Live Video & Demo Stream]

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state.*

This month’s state is Indiana!

The firey five piece Lavaborne was born in the cold month of February in 2017. Originally formed by Chris Latta (vocals) and Brandon Signorino (guitars). The duo spent a few months writing and composing what would become their demo as a way of recruiting and filling out the band. Chris and Brandon released the demo on September 15, 2017 with Chris Latta handling vocals duties as well as bass guitar and Brandon Signorino on lead and rhythm guitars, and setting up the drum programming. With their demo and classic influences like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, Mercyful Fate, Candlemass it wasn’t long before the band had retained 3 additional members to fill out their band which would include Brandon Davis on bass guitar, Freddie Rodriguez riffing out guitars, and Max Barber on drums. The members are by no means new to the music scene in Indiana either and have played in various other established bands including Spirit Division, Steel Aggressor, and Mask of Sanity Continue reading

Indiana Doom Metallers THORR-AXE To Tour Western U.S. This April

Wonder why their name is the way it is? Cause the doom they bring is as heavy as Thor’s hammer. Ok bad joke. Anyways, doom fanatics! THORR-AXE has got some really good news for you up its sleeve. The crusty Indiana doom metallers are all set to begin a voyage on the western side of America next month, alongside, ravaging eight cities this April 16-26 before ultimately concluding at Chicago Doomed & Stoned Festival this June.

We hope to see a lot of people who’ve been following us for awhile out at some of these dates. See you out there!

Review: APOSTLE OF SOLITUDE – ‘From Gold To Ash’

Formed in 2004 by former The Gates Of Slumber drummer Chuck Brown, the band followed their 2008 ‘Sincerest Misery’ debut with “Last Sunrise” in 2010, then, in between two splits and a demo, released ‘Of Woe And Wounds’ in 2014, which also served as their first album for Italy’s Cruz Del Sur Music. Just in time, Apostle of Solitude greets the legions of doom in early 2018 with their fourth studio album, ‘From Gold To Ash.’ Continue reading

Review: God Am – S/T EP

godam

On the outskirts of Indianapolis, Indiana you will find one of the most appealing bands I have heard in some time. The band God Am formed in 2012 and have been putting in some major hours to hone their sound and get exactly where they want to be. The band released their debut EP on May 16th. The group have made waves throughout the region in Indiana and this EP is sure to turn those small waves into more of a tidal wave. After just finishing this EP the band is already hard at work a follow up to this debut and have 3 songs in the books written already. They will soon begin touring Indiana and surrounding areas and we can only hope a venue in our area will be lucky enough to book them. We had the honor of checking out the debut and are sure you will be just as impressed as we were. Continue reading
