Phil Anselmo Talks Possible DOWN Anniversary Tour; Hints At Return Of Kirk Windstein To DOWN [Video]

Philip H. Anselmo is a name synonymous with metal. He has been at the helm of several iconic bands that have broken barriers in the music world. One of the hardest working musicians of the generation Phil is a member of several bands each one just as amazing as the next. Pantera got everything started for the singer back in  1986 when he replaced previous singer Terry Glaze and joined forces with brothers Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell Abbott along with Rex Brown. The band blazed new trails in American Heavy Metal and raised the bar of what was expected in regards to modern bands. Phil also went on to form the illustrious supergroup Down which has featured well known members like Jimmy Bower (Eye Hate God), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Kingdom of Sorrow), Rex Brown (Pantera), Pepper Keenan (Corrosion Of Conformity), and Pat Bruders (Goatwhore). As if that wasn’t enough of a workload Phil also has Superjoint (Formerly Superjoint Ritual) in which Jimmy Bower is also a member. In the past few years he has also brought two new bands into the realm with Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, and his black metal project Scour. His work history doesn’t end there as he has also been a part of the bands Arson Anthem, Christ Inversion, Southern Isolation, Viking Crown, Eibon and En Minor as well. Around a year ago Phil also stepped in and took over vocal duties for Mike IX Williams of Eye Hate God when he was ill recuperating from a liver transplant. (Mike is now back with the band and is as healthy as ever). Review: PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS – ‘Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue’ [Track Stream]

When you think of “angry” music, what comes to mind? I have a few ideas – maybe some of mine are even the same as yours. Regardless of what you might be thinking “angry” music sounds like, this album will undoubtedly force you to rethink your definition. Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals – ‘Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue’ is, unquestionably, some angry fucking music.

Philip H. Anselmo is a name that might seem familiar – you can remove the “H” if it’s throwing you off. If you’re reading this review, you’re more than likely aware of a band called Down. You may even have heard of another band called Superjoint. You also might know that, in addition to fronting both of these great bands, Anselmo may very well be one of the most prolific names in metal today – as well as the most headlined recently. In between also being one of the most entertaining interviews in the biz, Phil has consistently been working on multiple side project bands including Arson Anthem, Christ Inversion, Southern Isolation, Viking Crown, Eibon, Scour, and En Minor; and running his own label, Housecore Records. EYEHATEGOD Announce ‘Left To Starve’ Summer Tour With NEGATIVE APPROACH, CRO-MAGS & More

New Orleans sludge metallers EYEHATEGOD are set to sail on a thirty nine date US mega tour next month. With front man Mike IX Williams‘ lengthiest tour since he last underwent a crucial life saving liver transplant previous year in the month of December, he has recovered well to the point where he can do what he does best. Joining EYEHATEGOD on ‘The Left To Starve’ summer tour are a plethora of bands like NEGATIVE APPROACH, CRO-MAGSCAPITALIST CASUALITIES, PHOBIA, PRIMITIVE MANANTISEENPIG DESTROYER, THE OBSESSED, and MOUNTAIN OF WIZARD on select dates! The mayhem takes off in Corpus Christi in Texas on the 1st of August and ends in Pensacola in Florida on the 13th of September, a month and a half long touring which promises to bring some killer live music to the fans!
