Relapse Records is set to release a devastating split LP of epically retro proportions featuring hardcore-punk crossover thrashers, Iron Reagan, and old school death metal beasts, Gatecreeper on March 2nd, 2018. Split LP’s like this, and similarly compilation albums, have always been exciting for fans of underground music. Not only are they a way to conveniently add immediate variety to a playlist, but at the same time, become exposed to multiple bands at once. It’s a win-win situation. Iron Reagan & Gatecreeper are here to deliver exactly what fans look forward to, with a potent eight tracks of ferocity; the likes of which will transport you into the adrenaline-filled violence of an eighties crossover thrash moshpit, and then straight away into the high-intensity evil of early nineties death metal. Get ready to get have a hammered smashed face soon this fall in the months of November and December as the lads from Buffalo, New York, CANNIBAL CORPSE just announced a massive month long tour with young guns, Texas thrashers POWER TRIP whose latest album ‘Nightmare Logic‘ has been out to some widespread positive reviews and new death metallers on the block, GATECREEPER. Also along with the tour dates, the band just revealed the new album will be out this fall. They will be supporting their untitled(as of yet) 14th studio album on this tour. This will be CANNIBAL CORPSE‘s follow up to their 2014’s ‘Skeletal Domain‘, released via Metal Blade Records which charted at an impressive #32 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart (the highest chart position in their storied career!). The band’s new album – which was recorded at MANA Recording Studios with producer/engineer Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, SOILENT GREEN, BELPHEGOR, HATE ETERNAL) – promises to be another aggressive, powerful record in their catalog, that will surely make history once again.
In this series we pose the age old questions to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them.
Nate Garrett is a name you may be familiar with. Musicians strike to get signed by a label throughout their careers and Nate has achieved this with not only one band but two. In 2015 Nate founded the band Spirit Adrift, which essentially started out as a one man project. In 2016 the band released an EP ‘ Behind – Beyond’ and a full length ‘Chained to Oblivion’ both via Prosthetic Records . They also released a split release with Khemmis via War Crime Recordings. Spirit Adrift has a slow festering doom sound with some psychedelic qualities. Both releases are riddled with riffs and thundering bass lines. Also on vocal duties Nate’s voice booms with soulful qualities throughout each track. All the tracks have this immense harmony and melodic feel with the powerful guitar work and drum beats holding up the back end. Around the same time Nate was founding Spirit Adrift he was welcomed into Gatecreeper as their guitarist. The bands are vastly different but do have some similar elements. Gatecreeper is certainly more in the vein of death metal, but they combine some doom influence as well. The band includes a Swedish style rapid fire riff attack and equal parts groove to make a smooth and filling cocktail of greatness. Since Nate was added to the band they have appeared on 3 splits, a compilation album, a full length and a live album. The full length ‘Sonoran Depravation’ was released in 2016 via Relapse Records, and the band’s live album ‘Unleashed in the Middle East’ was released in May of 2017 independently. You can easily say at this point that Nate Garrett is a successful musician. Dividing his time between two successful groups is certainly another feat within itself. Continue reading
*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*
This month’s State is Arizona!
GATECREEPER is a death metal band out of Tucson & Phoenix Arizona. They formed in 2013 with members Chase Mason on guitar, Metal Matt on drums, and Sean Mears on bass. In the early days they didn’t play a single show – they just wrote songs and recorded them. There was virtually no direction for this self-titled, 4 song EP, released in April of 2014. But, it turned out to be a great idea because they ended up with a fanbase before they played their first show.
Hardcore punk, thrash-punk, and death metal fans alike are in for a treat! Tomorrow, 03/16/2017, starts the beginning of this extreme music trifecta hitting the road together for this 18 date, 17 city tour that’s sure to be a monster. Nails is a hardcore punk band from Oxnard, CA currently signed with Nuclear Blast. Currently with 3 full lengths and a couple of EPs under their belt, band members Todd Jones (ex Terror), John Gianelli, and Taylor Young meld elements of grindcore, powerviolence and death metal to create their own exclusive taste of hardcore. They will be supported by the intense but fun thrash punkers Toxic Holocaust. TH has won recognition from metal publications across the board who all agree that they are among one of the most important and entertaining thrash bands in the modern era. Originally founded as the solo effort of frontman Joel Grind, Toxic Holocaust now claims Nick Bellmore on the skins with Charlie Bellmore stepping in the role of touring guitar support since 2015. Last but certainly not least are their Relapse Records label mates Gatecreeper who saw the release of their first full length album last fall. The quartet of Chase Mason, Eric Wagner, Seth Mears, and Matthew Arrebello have a primarily death metal sound that’s interwoven with a peppering of thrash and punk elements, but one that maintains death metal as it’s core. The three bands combine on the same bill to form the Voltron of the hardcore/punk/thrash/black metal scenes, a juggernaut of a tour that’s sure to please old fans and invite curious new ones. Don’t make excuses; make plans instead to catch this as it’s definitely gonna be a highlight of the touring circuit this year! Dates and locations are posted below:

If you’re looking for some catchy doom tinged death that jumps like a crack head on fire right out of the gate, the Gatecreeper‘s “Sonoran Depravation” on Relapse Records is the perfect album for you. GC have a heavy ass, nasty mix of older Entombed and Obituary with some hellacious melodic passages all accompanied by a John Tardy bred with a bull mastiff of a vocalist. This is “balls out, fuck the technicality, fuck genres, let’s play us some death metal” style shit.
