Hailing from the most metal country in the world, Finland, folk metallers or melodic death vikings ENSIFERUM are back to the grind with a new album entitled, ‘Two Paths‘, following the legacy and aura of their previous release ‘One Man Army‘ which was out back in 2015. On September 15, ENSIFERUM will release their new album worldwide via Metal Blade Records. The album is produced is Ansi Kippo and the master was recorded on tape for a true old school analog experience. Talk about being trve!
Some sad news for fans of Bay Area progressive death metal outfit, FALLUJAH, as vocalist AlexHofmann, one of the founding members of the band, and also the vocalist who has been through thick and thins with the band since its inception in 2007 has called it quits and pulled the curtains on his career as the frontman for the band.
‘Baphomet‘ is the new unholy lyric video song released by the harrowing and blasphemous Austrian blackened death metal outfit, BELPHEGOR,off the upcoming, highly-anticipated eleventh BELPHEGOR record entitled ‘Totenritual‘, which will be released on 15th September, worldwide via Nuclear Blast Records. It has been three years since their last studio effort, ‘Conjuring The Dead‘ and they are finally bringing the apocalypse back with their eleventh album in line, which has been mixed by Jason Suecof and mastered by Mark Lewis at Audiohammer Studios, Florida. ‘Totenritual‘ was recorded at Stage One Studios, Germany and Studio Mischmaschine, Austria.
Probably one of the biggest cards on the deck of melodic death metal,ARCH ENEMY has released their new official music video for the single, ‘The World Is Yours‘ from their all new upcoming tenth album in the catalog, entitled, ‘Will To Power‘ due out on September 8 through Century Media Records and via True Trooper Entertainment in Japan. The video was directed by Patric Ullaeus, who has previously helped bands like IN FLAMES, AMARANTHE, DIMMU BORGIR, EVERGREY etc. with his artistic and visionary directing skills. The video looks cool and everything that has went in to the making of this video is just epic and awe inspiring. From production, which I would say is one of the most classy, exhilarating and of grandeur nature ARCH ENEMY has ever done, to the lighting, camera angles and close up shots, no stones have been left un-turned, everything in the video has been done to pin point perfection.
Four piece Norwegian death metal band EXECRATION are 13 years already into the business and have released three nerve wrecking albums till date. Their last album was pretty well received and they did a lot of shows both in homeland Norway and have also previously toured with death metal giants CANNIBAL CORPSE. They are now back with their fourth album which is slated to be released on July 14th, out via Metal Blade Records. The upcoming album is titled as, ‘Return To The Void‘. Today the band premieres a new song taken off ‘Return To The Void‘, named as “Hammers Of Vulcan“.
Decapitated has been reigning since the year 2000, that year they also released their first full-length album ‘Winds Of Creation’. But, 1 album wasn’t enough for them so the album ‘The First Damned’ came to claim its righteous spot. After that they have released 4 beautifully dark albums, ‘Nihility’, ‘The Negation’, ‘Organic Hallucinosis’ and last but certainy not least ‘Carnival is Forever’, this album created a spot on the record label Nuclear Blast for these guys. The 2014 album ‘Blood Mantra’ is for sure one of my favorite releases from that year, this album marked their sound’s turn around. Roughly 3 years later they came back with another crazy fast album ‘Anticult’. It got out today, on the 7th of July. If you love their old sound combined with fast riffs then this is the album for you!
*Every Tuesday and Thursday from now until Chicago Open Air gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*
Today’s artist is Aversed.
On Sunday, July 16th, students from the Berklee College of Music will bring their melodic death metal sounds to Chicago Open Air. Aversed is a 5-piece, female-fronted band that formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 2009. The band was added to the festival just a few weeks before the schedule was released so you won’t see them on the poster below. This was a much needed addition as the festival was lacking a female-fronted group. They hit the BlackCraft Stage on Sunday very early at 12:05 p.m. but it will be a performance you don’t want to miss. I’ve always found that some of the best performances of a festival will take place very early in the day. Read a little bit about how Aversed is preparing for the festival in this article from The Artery on WBUR 90.9 here.
Aversed released their debut EP last year in November titled ‘Renewal’. “Prison of Existence” opens the EP with a ferocity that shows they are more than just a band to get the day started off. Drawing influence from several bands playing the fest that day like Behemoth, Ozzy Osbourne, and Slayer, they create an extreme sound similar to that of the most recent Arch Enemy record. Even with only 5 songs, the EP clocks in at about 30 minutes with its epic combination of death metal growls, melodic vocals, fast-paced rhythms, and god-tier shredding from the guitarists. Check out “Prison of Existence” and a music video for the title track “Renewal” below. The video shows that the band puts a lot of energy into their live shows so I’m looking forward to seeing them own the stage very soon. This will be the quintet’s first time playing a Danny Wimmer Presents event. Buy your tickets to see Aversed make their festival debut at Chicago Open Airhere. Follow the band on Facebook for upcoming news on brand new music and tours. Also follow the festival page for updates and additions to the festival in the coming days. 8 more days people!!
Haydee Irizarry – Lead Vocals
Sungwoo Jeong – Guitar/Vocals

*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*
This month’s State is Arizona!
GATECREEPER is a death metal band out of Tucson & Phoenix Arizona. They formed in 2013 with members Chase Mason on guitar, Metal Matt on drums, and Sean Mears on bass. In the early days they didn’t play a single show – they just wrote songs and recorded them. There was virtually no direction for this self-titled, 4 song EP, released in April of 2014. But, it turned out to be a great idea because they ended up with a fanbase before they played their first show.
North America is already having a party this year with so many cool tours that are bringing along with it some exciting bands from both the big and underground ends of the spectrum alike. Stop everything that you are doing and turn your heads here, cause this is probably one of the most epic and brutal tours of all proportions. Just when you thought it wasn’t brutal enough already, they drop this bomb. CATTLEDECAPITATION,REVOCATION, FULL OF HELL & ARTIFICIAL BRAIN will blow North America into smithereens together as they huddle up for a brutal and sadistic tour this October and November. This is a headlining tour with CATTLEDECAPITATION as the main headliner for the Metalsucks & Exclaim! Aggressive Tendencies Presents “The North American Extinction Tour Part II: Inhuman Beings”. Tell me you spat your coffee. Didn’t ya?
Every metalhead’s favourite television series has to be Metalocalypse, which is unfortunately well over for about four years now. It was one tough goodbye to one of the very few metal related television series we ever had. Still nostalgic about it ? Hold on there, we’ve got some good news up your feed, BRENDAN SMALL, the brain child and the man behind the epic television series Metalocalypse is back. Well, not with something along his previous lines, but with a pretty cool death metal song from his upcoming solo album, ‘Galaktikon II: Become The Storm‘. His new solo album shall see the light of the day on August 25th, via Megaforce Records. Just a few hours ago, the man himself took the curtains off his new song, ‘My Name Is Murder‘. DETHKLOK resemblance can be found in the song. Or not ? Check it out below and be your own judge. Continue reading →
