An Interview With Indian Death Metal Outfit DARKRYPT

From the western most corner of India, there spawns an unheralded force of dark, fast and intense death metal quartet that goes by the name of DARKRYPT, who are currently one among the rising forces when it comes to death metal in this part of the world. They formed back in 2013, with the vision of bassist Amey Bhole and Nachiket Bhave on guitars. After being around for a while with no output, Aumkar Lele and Rishabh Ravi joined in on drums and guitars respectively for the first complete and firm line up. Early 2014 saw Mihir Gaikwad joining the band on guitars but only for playing gigs. After a year in late 2015, Nachiket quit the band, and Mihir replaced the former axe-man’s boots as a permanent member from there on.

DARKRYPT are a fairly new band but they are absolutely killing it already. With their debut LP Delirious Excursion already out one year back via Indian label Transcending ObscurityDARKRYPT are already making a statement despite being this young in the circuit. Check out their debut LP provided at the end of the interview. Pssht! They have robed in Rogga Johansson of PAGANIZER and thus successfully creating a track where he has lend his fierce vocals. That is the cherry on top of the cake for sure. You really know what to expect when the mixing has been done by Greg Chandler at Priory Recording Studios (CRUCIAMENTUM, CHTHE’ILIST, etc.) and mastering by the legend Dan Swano at Unisound Studios (ASPHYX, BLOODBATH, etc). Fast riffs, relentless and insane drumming, swift tempo changes and brutal gutturals straight from the bellowed depths of hell is what DARKRYPT stands for. We had the pleasure of having them for a short interview, as we talked about their new album, the upcoming Durance of Hate India Tour and a lot more. Check it out below,

Album Review: THE WALKING DEAD ORCHESTRA – ‘Resurrect’

With a name like The Walking Dead Orchestra, you can’t help but conjure up depictions of a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland where all life is obliterated and the outlook is bleak and demoralising… but fear not, for French Deathmetallers are absolutely annihilating the hoard with their sophomore album ‘Resurrect’! Soon to be released on Fri 13th October via Unique Leader Records (the pioneering label that have already brought you Arkaik – ‘Nemethia’, Decrepit Birth – ‘Diminishing Between Worlds’ and Inanimate Existence -‘Underneath A Melting Sky see review here). ‘Resurrect’ marks a new chapter for the band, having emerged victoriously from the entanglement of wretched spawning bodies, stronger, more determined and aggressive as hell! Pre-orders are live and bundles are available here. For digital click here.

Following in the footsteps of the Architect (the main character of the bands concept world), you are thrown violently into an onslaught of punishing fretwork in ‘Resurrect The Scourge’. With the worldwide epidemic surrounding us, the world we have entered is one of sheer ferocious pounding melody entertained by emotionally charged vocals from lead singer Florian Gatta (also of Rise Of Doom). The vocal dynamics add to intensity of the drama unfolding, from grunts and growls to an exasperated top-end, a familiar appraoch from their deathcore history. The aggression is paramount across the release with a ritualistic feel, almost like the band is willing the dead to join them in their rampage. This is carried upon in ‘Through The Realm Of Chaos’, a frenzy of duality in vocal range and the in-your-face fast tempo which only intensifies the impending Armageddon. It has a pummelling playfulness and incorporates more mid and gruntal vocals, offering a far more brutal old-school dynamic with an ability to combine primal influences to full effect!

State Of The Art: ABDUCTED

This month on State Of The Art we decided to feature bands from the frozen northern state of Alaska, and we’re kicking it off this week with a phenomenal Death Metal outfit that brings the fires of hell to the land of the midnight sun. ABDUCTED is a 5 piece death metal project from Fairbanks Alaska that falls short in no aspects of what makes the genre great, they are heavy, groovy, fast paced, in your face, and unapologetic. ABDUCTED consists of Dylan Chioffe – Vocals, Rick Peirce – Guitar, Jake Benoit – Guitar, Zain Mitchell – Bass, and Kris Larson – Drums.  Started in 2016 by Dylan and Jake, the band has wasted no time in getting their name out in the metal world. They have released 3 songs, one of which being a sick lyric video for the track ‘Indoctrination’, and an official music video for ‘Remnants’, has garnered the band an impressive 10,588 fans on facebook since their debut in February 2017. Defending themselves against some serious gang-rape allegations they have been facing, the band issued a statement saying that, “we are not kidnappers, rapists, or criminals“, just over an hour or two ago on Facebook.
