Supergroup HISS FROM THE MOAT Release Video For “The Harrier”

Transcontinental black/death metal band Hiss From The Moat have released a lyric video for their new track, “The Harrier”. This international powerhouse was founded by James Payne (Vital Remains, Hour of Penance) with Italian friends bassist/vocalist Carlo Cremascoli and guitarist Giacomo “Jack” Poli. In 2009 the three-piece released their debut EP The Carved Flesh Message. Sharing the stage with acts such as Psycroptic, Skeletonwitch and The Black Dahlia Murder they took their project to as many audiences as possible. Four years later they released their debut full-length Misanthropy via Lacerated Enemy/Nuclear Blast. During this period Payne left Italian death metal band Vital Remains to work full time on Hiss From The Moat. Taking their blended sound of black and death metal the band toured Europe and Asia with acts such as Behemoth, Belphegor and Rotting Christ. The band then brought on guitarist/vocalist Max Cirelli. Album Review: Behemoth “I Loved You At Your Darkest”

Behemoth is just one of those bands that really do not require an introduction.  Spawning from pure darkness in Gdansk Poland in 1991 and emerging on to the black metal scene with raw, unfiltered ferocity, they maintained this style with heathen lyrical content into the late 90’s where they shifted to occult, and thelemic inspiration and showed that they could also be a reckoning force in the death metal scene with the release of “Satanica. At this time the world also quickly came to realize that Behemoth was unique in it’s own way thanks to the drum styling of Inferno, multi layered vocals and some middle eastern influence. Behemoth is now comprised of Nergal (vocals/guitar), Orion (bass/vocals), and Inferno (drums).  There are plenty of those who would like to say that Behemoth is a blackened death metal project, but Nergal prefers to consider them without a label, which to me is completely acceptable when facing a true artist who does in no way conform to the status quo. Behemoth has released 10 studio albums since conception, and tomorrow, October 5th 2018, they grace the world with their 11th release “I Loved You At Your Darkest” via Metal Blade Records. SKELETONWITCH Presents Catchy And Riff Filled New Track, “Fen Of Shadows”!

Hark all ye thrashers! The boys from SKELETONWITCH are back, and have put out a brand new song, “Fen Of Shadows” from their all new, upcoming sixth studio full length, ‘Devouring Radiant Light‘. The brand new album will be out by July 20th, via Prosthetic Records this summer. So be prepared for a fast, technical and murky summer, all thanks to our boys from Athens, Ohio.

Fen Of Shadows” is SKELETONWITCH at it’s best and a true embodiment of what their music feels and holds. It can’t get any better than this. The riffs are catchy, thrash to it’s core, with lots of subtle black metal vibe. And at the same time, it is diverse and has a lot of other exciting stuff going on with it. The song has a brooding and post-metal sort of aura, where it takes you by your neck, but it’s a good feeling, like the one you feel when you walk amidst a misty, cold, dark and windy forest at the dawning of dusk. The tremolo induced shrills and wails will give you the goosebumps that is so inevitable on this track. Vocals are ear piercing and a total blistering force to reckon with, a force equally as fatal as the lightning fast riffing and terror inducing, relentless drumming. Continue reading

State Of The Art: Georgia’s GUILLOTINE [Album Stream]

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state*

This month’s State is Georgia!

Atlanta-based Guillotine offers bass-heavy, blackened death/doom metal with heavy doses of groove. Weaved seamlessly into the band’s sound are a unique blend of musical influences such as old school American death metal, Scandinavian black metal, and Southern sludge. Their songs often bounce between slow/doomy evilness to mid-tempo aggression. While typically never delving into super high-velocity thrashing speeds or blast beats, alternately their use of grooving riffs and double-bass rhythms gives Guillotine a signature sound of their own that is equally dark and punishing. *This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state.*

This month’s state is Vermont!

Combining elements of doom, death, sludge and black metal the Montpelier, Vermont based band Lightcrusher was formed in 2010. You could say that their lyrical themes tend to be more leaning towards the darker side of things with themes like nature, misanthropy, loss, and isolation. The band is comprised of 5 members including members and ex-members of bands like Chalice, Lord Gallows, The Demon BellSunder, Cruciferion, Limbwalker and others. Some of the members were actually in these bands together, so there was already a chemistry and bond created there that you can hear on the bands material. The members include M. Schrift on vocals, A. Sørensen on guitar and vocals, K. Emmons also on guitar, J. Elwert behind the drum kit and L. Gallows on the bass. The quintet released their first material in the form of a demo in September of 2015. Simply titled ‘Lightcrusher Demo’. The recording included five tracks. Fast forward to December 2016 and the band has now released a brand new EP titled ‘Forests of Unresolve’ which includes 5 blistering tracks of death doom and the bands signature duel vocal style.
